View Full Version : Do you need help creating custom resolution for your Momitsu V880?

I had working Powerstrip settings for my TW100 but I wasn’t sure how to convert these settings to my Brainwave V880 (Momitsu V880 clone). I soon found out, thanks to this forum and some additional web pages about video timing and custom resolutions.
I made a small application based on that knowledge so I don’t have to search for the information all over again. I also included a simple “Custom Resolution Wizard”. It won’t produce perfect values but it will put you in the “right ball park”.
The application was made for my personal use but I will happily share it with all other V880 owners. Just remember that the application still is a beta version and that I haven’t had the time to fully verify the functionality. It looks like it is doing what it should but all usage is, of course, by your own risk. Please mail me any bug reports or suggestions for corrections and improvements.
I will release a final version as soon as I have had the time to verify the functionality and compatibility with most Windows flavours...
Have fun :) / Robert
// Begin update, version 0.2 beta
Made some cosmetic changes and added the functionality to copy and paste to and from the clipboard. The format is text and it is formatted as a plain string. I thought that it would make exchanging settings easy trough forums like this. To try it out, select the string of numbers below, right click and select “copy”, execute CR4V880 and press the “paste from clipboard” button.
45314.64,1280,64,192,128,1664,1,59.94,720,6,18,12,756,1,75403560.96
// End update, version 0.2 beta
// Begin update, version 0.3 beta
Corrected a sync polarity bug.
Replaced the Wizard with a new one that works according to the VESA Generalized Timing Formula Standard (GTF).
Added some sanity checks on the Powerstrip Converter.
Added a quick list (just copy CR4V880.lst to the same directory as CR4V880.exe to get a quick start).
Added a print option to print out V880 custom resolution settings.
Additional cosmetic changes.

since the momitsu and liteon share the same sigma chip....think this would work on the liteon?

Thanks Robert. This is a great thing you have done for us.
I will try it after the US Thanksgiving holidays.
Thank you again and take care, Bill

I have the V880 with the Sany Z2- Shouldn't the 880's 720P output be just right for my Z2?
One issue is that the 880 menu displays full screen on my Z2- but when playing a DVD- I see some rows of pixels missing from the top and bottom. Would a custom resolution fix this?

Robert,
Great job on this tool for the Momitsu. Congrats!! :D
Here in Germany we can use it for the Brainwave as it is the same Player.
Let me ask you a question though. I assume that you mostly watch PAL DVDs.
Do you have a proved set of values that plays 720p real smooth in PAL (50Hz)?
Several people over here still have some trouble getting the 50Hz to run smooth so that your infos will be muchly appreciated.
Unfortunately i haven't received mine yet but i forward myself as the spokesman for the troubled German users.

phitheta219 and emailists, I guess so but I don't know for sure...
DIYcoil, I am running PAL on my TW100 with a custom resolution of 720p@50Hz with my brainwave V880 and the picture is smooth as silk. :)

Well done Robert :D
I have at last managed to get 1360 x 768 working on my Hitachi SX5600 projector thanks to your great little utility ... just going to start having a play now to see if it can be fine tuned :)
Many thanks
Smurf5599
Smurf,
What settings enabled your success? I have been trying in vain for a week with the Momitsu and the Hitachi 5500 for 1360 x 768.

Try these settings for 1360x768@60Hz (VESA CVT):
47720,1360,72,136,208,1776,0,59.799,768,3,5,22,798,1,84750000
or these for 1360x768@50Hz (VESA CVT):
39564,1360,56,136,192,1744,0,49.892,768,3,5,17,793,1,69000000

Press "Setup" (on your V880), go to "video settings", press the magic numbers "9-7-1-3" and enter the settings in the "custom resolutions" menu... :D
Ps. Use my application to convert the "oneliners" of digits (found in the posts above) to corresponding values in the V880 "custom resolutions menu". Select the line of digits in your web browser, right click and select “copy”, execute my application and press the “paste from clipboard” button. You now got the values sorted and presented in the same way, as they should be entered in the V880 "custom resolutions menu".

EmuMannen,
Thank you very much. This looks great! I am planning to give it a try later this week. I am using a Sony 1292 CRT projector. I assume that changing the custom DVI settings will also change the analog output of the DVI-I as well(?). Do you know if the sigma chip can handle 1280 x 960p? This is the sweet spot of my projector (in 16 x 9) and I would like to give it a try....
Have any of you tried it?
Thanks.

My take on this is that your application is a sort of V880/Brainwave Custom DVI setting calculator, right? You use it on your computer to generate a set of values that are displayed on your computer monitor that are appropriate to enter manually into your DVD player Custom DVI setup GUI in order to acheive the desired resolution. Is this a correct statement? At first I thought maybe it was a way to automatically configure Powerstrip, but that was incorrect. Thanks.
Up until now (I've have my V880 little over a week, in usage) I've (mostly!) only been able to use DVI digital output from the V880 into my Sanyo PLV-Z2 by using a Custom DVI setting. However, I've NEVER set up any Custom DVI settings!! :p The "9-7-1-3" code was unknown to me. Is that in the manual?
Dan
I got an email message stating: Xander has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to entitled - Do you need help creating custom resolution for your Momitsu V880? - in the DVD Players forum of AVS Forum. This, a few hours after the one post I made in this thread. However, I do not see Xander's post. I suppose Xander deleted it, huh? :) That's life in the AVS Forums.

You are right. I made the application to help me create custom resolution values formatted "the V880 way". I already had Powerstrip values for my HTPC so I first made a "Powerstrip to V880 converter". I then made a "Wizard" that would create basic values based on resolution and desired refresh rate. I added the "Tweak Panel" to help me tweak values if I wanted to change one parameter that would affect the others.
It is not like Powerstrip because it doesn’t touch your hardware. It can’t test if the settings you create are valid or not. Think of it as a basic calculator. It can help with your math but it cant protect you from SISO (**** in, **** out)...

Two pieces of info I've come across recently for Z2 owners. I don't know the veracity of this but an Australian user on the Hivizone forum said the V880 was only capable of PAL 720p and 1080i at 50hz through DVI analogue. Through component it converts it to 60hz. Can anyone confirm/deny this?
Also in the back of the Z2 manual it only has a listing for 720p through DVI at 60hz i.e. it doesn't accept 720p at 50hz. It still takes 1080i at 50hz though.
Conclusion: no 720p at 50hz for this combination?
Diarmuid, I'm running 720p (PAL + NTSC) from the V880 to my HS10 via the VGA port using a DVI->VGA converter plug. See details below.
EmuMannen - thanks for this great little utility!! I tried to get the V880 running through my HS10's VGA port (using the DVI port for the HTPC) and could only get the stock 480P on the V880 to give a nice picture via this connection. The standard 720P didn't work via VGA. I used your utility and although the various HS10 list settings at 50/60Hz didn't work, the AE500 @ 60Hz worked like a charm (HS10 shows 720P @ 60Hz signal #41) -- this setting is opbviously somehow different from the stock 720P setting.
I now have a great picture for video based DVDs from the V880 via the VGA port and film based pictures from the HTPC via DVI.
I also applied the new Dec beta firmware and tried numerous DVDs last night and they all worked perfectly. My custom settings were also maintained through the firmware upgrade process.

Any reason this could not be used on Plasmas? I've tried it at 1366x768 @60Hz on my Panny and it cuts off the signal entirely.
Great idea on the app though.

I did, but as I mentioned these settings cut off the signal entirely. However, your tool was still useful; by combining the "bottom 10" settings it gave me with the "top 4" settings I had discovered on my own, I have been able to get a working custom setting on my Panny TH-50PHD6UY. I should note I also had to do some minor adjustments to the horiz and vert position settings on the display itself. The final settings are as follows:
48360 6000
1366 0768
1800 0072
0144 0216
0795 0001
0003 0023
0000 0000
Basic question, but how does one confirm that they are truly getting a 1:1 pixel mapped signal passed to their display?
Tanks for the app and the help.

The "Wizard" is just calculating according to the VESA Generalized Timing Formula (GTF). There is no guarantee that a specific device will sync to that. Maybe you should try the VESA Coordinated Video Timing Formula instead? It’s a shame that there is not one and only one universal formula for calculation of video timings... :(

Conclusion: no 720p at 50hz for this combination? Your explanation is consistent with my inability to sync with my Z2 when set to DVI(AV HDCP) and fed with the 720p signal from my V880. I will try to set up a custom DVI resolution in the V880 for 720p at 60 Hz. Is this possible? If not, then it's either using another DVI digital resolution from the V880 that the Z2 can rescale or using component analog 720p, pick your poison, AFAICT.
On another note, how do you pick your Custom DVI settings? Unless I'm mistaken, there are 3 sets of Custom DVI settings you can set up in the V880. How do you get into Set 1, Set 2, Set 3? I got into one set, but I couldn't tell which it was. Also, you have (AFAICT) no way of knowing which set is active. Also, there's nothing in the manual that identifies the sequence you go through when you hit the angled Video Out button. What precisely IS the sequence? Thanks for any help on this stuff.
Dan
I can't seem to get this to work for the JVC HX-1. I used the custom DVI resolution button that you made and put in 1400x788 and than entered those new values into the Momitsu Player. After hitting enter, the dvd player doesn't change. The projector still says it getting 720p res.
What am I doing wrong? Has anybody successfully got the HX-1 1:1 mapped?
BTW, This is a great tool, and I can’t believe what people will do to help others. I just must be doing it wrong.
Thanks

Also tried same nice tool.no success.
Maybe someone did manage to get 1:1 pixel mapping on

Lance Have you cycled through all the display modes on the V880 by repeatedly pressing the Video Out button? The Custom DVI setting is the 2nd after 768p, I believe. Can you synch on that? I get synch with my Sanyo PLV-Z2 at 480p, 768p (sort of), and all three Custom DVI settings (they come one after another).

First off...thanks for the shareware. Your initiative is appreciated! Tried the wizard and none of the following combinations worked for the JVC HX1:
1400x788 60hz
1400x788 57hz
1400x788 55hz
1400x788 50hz
1400x1050 60hz
I also tried the VESA Coordinated Video Timing Formula by visiting the following site:
http://www.vesa.org/public/CVT/CVTd6r1.xls
Went into the tweak menu of your application and plugged in the VESA variables but no luck.
Cycled through the outputs and the custom DVI setting seems stuck at 740. Also get a distorted image on that setting. Wondering if one of three issues may be the problem...
1) Not sure if HDCP is contributing to the problem. Since another member had problems with their sx21 this may not be the issue.
2) Not sure how to get into more than one custom DVI setting. 9713 always seems to go to the same menu.
3) The JVC HX1 manual shows the approved incoming signals and 1400x788 is not one of them. 1400x1050 is however. Tried that and it did not work either. hmmm.
Thoughts??
Will try more options tomorrow.
Awesome work on the converter program.
Can the v880 do 1440x960p at both 60 and 72Hz for CRT projectors that can handle it? --1920x1080p @ 60. --Dreaming I know...
Thanks.
Doug
hmmmm. I might have to try this for the 1080p. My projector would recognize it from powerstrip so maybe I'll use those settings and try it out on the momitsu.

Every time I enable custom res's on my loaner V880, the analog part of the DVI output turns off.
I'm copying the values straight off Powerstrip (thru the wizard). And stock res's like 720p or 1080i work ok with my CRT projector.
I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong - other than it's just turning off when I press enter after punching in my numbers.
I'm trying to get 1280x720 at 75hz - I've used my powerstrip numbers and the numbers calculated by the wizard.
Do you have to flash the firmware to get custom res's to work? Anybody have any clues?
Thanks

Yes. Use a firmware update from October 2003 or later.
Just got my 880. Going to flash new firmware and enter custom res into my JVC dila G11. Using Mark r's http://www.marky.com test pattern. Also new firmware adds color and sat, thus can really get a good pic.
-I have a new V880, latest firmware, and a JVC D-ILA G11
-1080i selected in the V880 menu outputs an image tht is about 1/6 too big for the screen (left-hand side is cut off some)
-I can select 720P in the V880, and then force the image to my G11 by selecting 720P instead of "Auto". This seems to display a correct-sized image.
-I used the tool from this thread for custom res, took my powerstrip values for 1360X1024, but the image is too small, kind of 4X3 looking
-I also tried 1360 X 768, and the image is the correct shape (16X9), but is about 2/3 too small for the screen
-I also used the wizard and inputted my values, but again the size of the image is either too smal or 4X3 looking.
Any help greatly appreciated. I am a HTPC guy and never had any problems getting a perfect match with powerstip.
Thanks!
Jason

Yes Ted, 6pg xtra- only with the 26/1/04 firmware, otherwise the analog part of the dvi-i would just turn off.
BUT, I'm getting red and green ghosting to the right of everything in the image (it's not missconvergence). Nobody else has reported it, so maybe it's just my unit.

Refresh rates around 50Hz, 60Hz and 75Hz are recommended output frequencies for 50Hz input sources (PAL), and refresh rates around 60Hz and 72Hz are recommended for 60Hz input sources (NTSC).
Changing the "Back porch" value will move the image left or right (horizontal setting) or up and down (vertical setting). Keep in mind that changing the "Back porch" number also changes the "Front porch" number.
Changing the "Active" lines or pixels setting will increase or decrease the height or width of the active video. Sometimes adjusting the "Total" number will change this as well, but this can be dangerous, as it changes the fundamental timing of the configuration.
"Total" = "Active"+"Front porch"+"Sync width"+"Back porch"
Ps. Make _ABSOLUTLY_SURE_ that your projector is in a mode that doesen't scale the incomming signal (through mode, direct mode, raw mode or whatever the maker of your projector might call it)!
Does anyone have custom DVI settings which would work for my (February 2004, new bulb, no problems) Sony KF-60WE610? I tried values derived from the wizard for 1386 x 788 at 60 Hz refresh rate, and the picture was very sharp, but, unfortunately, entirely blue. I'm not sure if that refresh rate was right. Thanks to anyone who can help!

I do know I have Firmware Version 1.0.9 and currently the only problem I have is most of the LCDs (letters, etc) do not light up. Only a few such as the lights showing the disk is turning.
I even tried updating my firmware with the ISO routine on a burned CD and no luck.
I'm back to square one.
Any suggestions?

1. Go to "Video Settings" menu,
2. High light "HD DVI Out:" menu by turning off "HD Component out" or "TV Out:",
3. Press "Enter" to enable HD DVI menu,
4. Then press combination "9-7-1-3".

I am going to try this with my Bravo D1. It has the same chip set and indeed 9-7-1-3 is also how I access the custom menu.
For 1024 x 768 @60hz the horizontal & vertical frequencies calculated are 47700 & 6000. My Optoma pj manual states that the VESA compatable frequencies are (among others) 48400 & 6000.
Should I use the tweek screen to alter the calculated frequencies to match my pj or use the original ones (47700 & 6000)?

Hi,
I just bought a V880. Anyone tried the tool with a Sharpvision xv-z91e?
It's a 800 by 600 resolution pj. I'm eager to try the nifty tool with my pj. Thanx in advance!!

Robert,
This application is excellent. I've had my Bravo D1 for 2 months now and not until I used your program have I achieved what I believe is the best picture my pj is capable of displaying. Other settings looked good but camera pans were fraught with motion artifacts, judder and occasionally a scrolling horizontal line. Using your application and the tweak screen to customize the frequencies according to my Optoma H55 owners manual, I have acheived an completely artifact free picture. Camera pans are smooth and without judder!!
I know that you created this for the V880 but I wanted to let you know it worked perfectly with the D1 and I wanted to thank you for your good work.

Hi Guys. I've been watching this thread since it started and have an observation that I would like to share. I'm using an X1 with my V880. I noticed the video menu screen on the V880 is tight and focused in 480p. When I switch to 720p or 1080i it develops somewhat of a blur. Similar to seeing an underscore below the letters of the menu. Adjusting the focus on the X1 has no effect on this. Oddly, it doesn't effect the picture quality in the same manner, at least that I can tell. So two questions -
Anyone else notice or experience this?
Would working with the custom resolutions address this or am I fixing something that's not broken?
Any thoughts would be appreciated. TIA.

I face this same problem with 1080i but not on 480p or 720p for some reason. It just affects wordings on the menu and subtitles in DVDs. The progressive scan options does seem to be sharper. So if we can find a way to get rid of the effect, I believe the interlace modes will sharpen as well.

Anyone using an S3 with one of these players? I have the Yamakawa 365 which has the same Custom settings pages (same chipet) but cannot for the life of me get the two devices to sync regularly.
You can play the disc and as soon as you stop it it says No Signal. Other times (though not often) it will hold the signal and take you to the DVD splash screen. Sometimes, the only way I can get the link back is to go to setup mode, hunt for the signal/image, exit setup mode (which loses the image) then press the V-Mode button 9 or 10 times to get an image again.
Even stranger is sometimes I manage to get 480p, sometimes 1080i and other times Custom DVI (my input settings). There is just no consistency with the S3 like there is with the HTPC monitor (either fed by the 365 or feeding to the S3).
Anyone any ideas? Thanks.
PS Great bit of sofware btw :)

Thanks from me as well for the utility. It helped with the understanding, but I too am having trouble making it work for me. I've tried just about every posibility.
I have a V880 connected via a DVI-HDMI monster cable to a Panny TH50PX20U/P. I've tried the settings earlier in the thread for a TH-50PHD6UY (essentially the commercial version of this one), but they aren't working for me. About the only thing I haven't tried is DVI-VGA adapter and driving it through the VGA connection in the front. I'll be doing that tonight.
Does anyone know the settings for 1:1 (1366X768) for the TH50PX20U through the HDMI connector? Alternately does anyone know for sure whether the acceptable resolutions on the panny are different for hdmi vs. vga connector?
If I have to use the vga connector to get 1:1, I'll have a cable sticking out of the front - not too cool.
Anybody?

Well, Tried the DVI - VGA adapter, and DUH, that won't work will it. Analog vga from DVI digital? ... don't think so. Needless to say I get a black screen.
Back to DVI-I - HDMI.
The TH50PX20U can sync to 1280X768@60 on the analog VGA input, scaling in the horizontal to 1366. I assume it should be able to do the same on the HDMI, but no luck with any VESA settings at any refresh.
480p and 1080i from the standard settings on the v880 work fine through the HDMI, but obviously scale.
Does anyone know what custom values these two represent? I think that will be a good starting point for me.
Thanks!
If anyone is using a Panansonic 300u with the V880 could you give me the custom settings, custom 300u 768 on mine is showing 2 inches of the right hand side of the picture on the left hand side of the screen.
Does the custom menu alter the choice that you already have selected i.e. custom 300u 480 or are the custom settings seperate.
Could someone post the standard settings before they are altered.
If changing the back porch number changes the front porch number what does that mean exactly and how does it effect the picture ?
Thanks

I just tried the numbers for 1386 x 788 for the Sony HS20 and did get a very good picture. It was just too small. The video GBR setting on the DVI input wouldn't recognize the signal, but once I changed to computer it came through crystal clear. The 720P upscaled by the projector is still my picture of choice until someone comes up with a great custom resolution that uses the full screen.

I'd like to try a custom resolution to output 540p to my Toshiba RPTV (it upconverts 480i/p to 540p). 1080i of course bypasses this conversion and looks very good, but out of curiosity I'd like to see what 540p looks like.
Using the program linked in this thread, would I just go to the wizard screen and input 1920 for the horizontal resolution, 540 for the vertical, and 60hz for the refresh rate, then use the resulting numbers?

All you need is a DVI to VGA adapter and VGA cable since VGA carries RGBHV.
You can use the predefined 768P resolution which will match your display.

Happy to report I used c4v880 to create a custom 720 72hz resolution for my Barco 808 and it worked great - sharper and cleaner picture.
But, and this has been asked before without an answer, how do I add other custom resolutions? There should be 3 available but I don't know how to access thru setup, as only what I put in shows up. Does it automatically do 3, then start over and overwrite the first if you try to put in a 4th?
cjm30002

the 3 custom resolutions are not changeable by you. you have one additional un-named custom setting that you can create. i believe there is more detail on this in this thread somewhere (but it has gotten to be huge)

in cr4v880 - what is synchronization (neg or pos) and how does one decide how it should be set???
Probably dumb question, but in cr4v880, how do you know if you are entering progressive or interlaced specs? If I put in 1440x906 at 48Hz, for example, how do I know that the results are for 960p?
Could somebody, please, give me some suggestions before I mess up anything?
I just got a Momitsu V880 and connected it to a Hitachi 32" plasma (32PD3000).
I'm feeding the Momitsu DVI into the plasma's RGB (but have also connected the component and SVideo/Composite to the TV. (I connect to an external multimedia box really, which in turns sends a DVI signal to the TV).
I'm using 720P and it looks fine but I'm not sure if I've set it up the right way or can't do any better.
The plasma is spec'ed at 1024x852 with pixel pitch 0.84mm (H) * 0.39mm (V).
It also refers to HDTV 625/50p and 525/60p.
Maximum PC mode is 1280x1024 (at 75Hz vetrical and 80KHz horizontal).
It has of course 1024x768 at 75Hz and 60Khz.
No 1080 resolutions anywhere and when I try it, it doesn't work.
1) When I connect the DVI, I get only audio on the other outputs. Is it supposed to be like that?
2) When I remove the DVI and use the component, I don't get SVideo in parallel.
3) What would be a good parameter setup to maximize the quality of the output and hopefully have use of some of the other output connectors?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

What should be the custom resolution settings for a Sony 60'' XBR RPTV?
I don't think you would need custom resolutions for the 60" Sony XBR if it is CRT based. Should just need to use the standard 1080i output already in the V880 menu. For my 53" Sony CRT-based RPTV I use 1080i and it is lovely. I think anything else gets downconverted to 480p. I know 720p doesn't look very good, though maybe the Sony XBR RPTVs or other RPTVs newer than my 2.5 year old Sony work differently.

Deez, I have the same hitachi set.Just push the video button on the remote until you get 1080i. That is 1:1 mapping for the set.It is the best you are going to get with the hitachi. The screen should display 1080i digital in.
I got a V880 yesterday and connected using a dvi to vga adapter. I noticed that none of the players standard settings correspond to the standard HD setting which are programmer in my projector. I enter in new setting trying 1080I, 720p and 720p@71.93hz. I get this weird effect of the picture mirco fluttering vertically. This effect can range from mildly the distracting the downright dizzying depend on the dvd. I have never susceptible to motion or timing issues but for me this is unwatchable. Could the player be broken or should change the horizontal rates from 60hz to 59.94hz? Anybody else experience this?

If the Yamakawa is like the Momitsu, there is a setup menu that will let you choose the "default" output. On my Momitsu, I had the default set to 480i-composite. Every time I powered down fully (unplugged the unit) I would have to cycle through all the options (vmode button) to get back to 720p-DVI output. Once I changed the default in the setup menu to 720p-DVI, I no longer had this problem.
I don't know if the Yamakawa works the same way.

sorry my english The 4805 is an 854 x 480 native pj. You can switch the pj from a 16:9 to 4:3 mode in the user menu. Try 480p DVI from a NTSC 16:9 mastered (enhanced for widescreen TVs or Anamorphic DVD) with the DVD player and PJ set to 16:9. If this still stretches the aspect ratio, try some other combinations.

Hi,
I just bought a 23" apple cinema display 1920x1200.
Does the dvd player is able to send signal at this resolution?
Is there a way to adjust the DVI settings for this flat panel?
thanks,
Patrick

Anyone have custom resolution numbers for a sony GWIV or GWIII 1386x788?? It's been asked lots, so I am hoping one of those people figured it out. I don't have a PC, so I can't use the application I think most are using to generate the appropriate numbers.
Thanks!!

Unless Sony has done a firmware update, the GW's won't give you a full 1386x788 mapping with DVI. They will take & display 1366x768 via DVI/HDMI but leaves you a 10 pixel border on all four sides.
Try these two with the Bravo D1/D2 or 880's if you like.
Here are the settings:
Horiz Freq 45000 VertFreq 5600

Anyone has a custom setting for Momitsu 880DX using Panny 300U projector via the DVI-VGA connection ? I am using the following two settings but they both give me about a 3% black bar on four sides. Is it possible to expand the image to use all pixels. It seems that the 300U is doing some internal conversion even the play is set to 960x540. Thanks in advance.

I need the custom setting for my Nec 42XM2, it´s native 1024*768.
It´s the same as the Pioneer´s 42" modell.
I have the Momitsu V880N
i think it should be something like 1280*768, or maybe 768WIDE or something.
does anyone use these with a custome setting ???

Can anyone here get the AE700 to work in 720 Pal.Ive tried using the utility, but just goes blank.
Judder is a lot worse with AE700 compared to AE500

I made a web page that helps in creating Custom DVI Settings.
customdvi.htm (http://home1.gte.net/res18h39/customdvi.htm)
You can specify your own resolutions or use several pre-defined resolutions.

Very cool! Thanks.
Interesting, that on the Momitsu web site, they recommend the following for my Sanyo Z-2:
Sanyo Z2
HorizFreq...............44760____________VertFreq..................6000
VideoWidth..............1280____________VideoHeight.............0720
HSyncTotal...............1664____________PreHSync.................0064
HSyncActive..............0192____________PostHsync...............0128
VSyncTotal................0746____________PreVSync ...............0005
VSyncActive...............0013____________PostVSync..............0008
HSyncPol...................0000____________VSyncPol................0000
And yet the tool makes it seem like this wouldn't be ideal for a 720p projector... I guess this specific Z2 info on the Momitsu site is more about what is "native" for the Sanyo.

What display do you have that is square?
Not all displays will accept their rate resolution via HDMI/DVI.

Specifically, the VertFreq of 6000 (which is 60.00 Hz) is not ideal. I am amazed that some people keep using 60.00Hz, considering that the standard for NTSC has been 59.94Hz for the past 50 years.
Basically, if you use 720p, then I strongly suggest that you use the Custom DVI setting with a VertFreq of 5994 (unless you want to see a "micro stutter" every 16.7 seconds).

The 720p timings on my web page are identical to the SMPTE standards (except perhaps for the HSyncActive and PostHSync, which I just estimated), so all 720p displays should be able to support them.

I wonder whether the Z2 scales 59.94 to 60Hz for display?
In the manual, when talking about the different scan rates it will take in, it says that 640x480 is 59.94, but that 720p is 60....

I don't know about the Z2, but I once used a Compaq projector with that problem.
If you have a cable/satellite STB that has 720p output, you could try watching one of those news channels that has a ticker along the bottom (i.e., the kind that crawls horizontally the whole time), and just watch it for a minute or so to see if the ticker ever stutters.

Can someone translate these computer generated numbers (PowerStrip assisted through an NVIDIA GeForce 6800) to the Custom settings for the Sigma Designs chip?
Panasonic 50" plasma DVI:
1366 x 768p
Horizontal: 48.36Khz
Vertical: 60Hz (not 59.94!!)
Dot Clock freq: 86.75Mhz
HFront : 38
HSync: 184
HBack: 220
VFront: 3
VSync: 6
VBack: 29
These numbers are courtesy edaly using NVIDIA's new beta drivers that allow for non-divisible by 8 pixel resolutions.

I just bought an Optoma H77 and I trying to get the most of it with my Momitsu 880.
I know how to make custom resolution. But can we save them in the resolution menu? I bought my Momitsu on E-bay a while back and their is some resolution save for what seem like the pana AE300. Can I do it in the firmware or something?
Thanks!

it could be that it is not the question that is stupid but me. let's see..
I have a 1024x1024 Fuji plasma. it doesn't seem to make sense since it is far from being a square.
Signals referred to 480p, 720p, 1080p,.. mean number of visible lines so that means number of pixels on a digital monitor.
when watching a 16:9 film, 9 stands for lines so keeping width proportion signals are (853 x 480, 1280 x 720, 1920 x 1080). Since my width resolution is only 1024, i can't get a real 720p picture. In fact, my plasma should downscale the image and therefore there is no way of getting a 1:1 pixel mapping.
Is that correct? why would one then buy a scaler???

Bringing this post back from the dead...
First: The original program at the start of this thread seems to no longer be available?
Second: Anyone have a 854x480 custom setting to share? I have a Optoma H31 and can't seem to find a correct full custom settings that will work well.
Thanks,

Tom, thanks so much for that link!
I tried it and have experienced something strange, maybe you might have an idea what's happening:
Every time I enter 854x480 @ 60hz (or 59.94hz), the program returns and changes my width to 856! I tried 852 and it changed it to 848. No matter what, I couldn't get it to keep my width @ 854 (native of my H31 optoma and should be native of anamorphic dvd).
Any ideas?
Thanks, fleaman

Just to update as discovered in another thread: There is pixel crop with this combo when playing anamorphic material...quite a bit actually (like 32 vertical pixels!). Guitarman's findings were with a non-anamorphic image. I also have zero pixel crop until I play anamorphic. Guitarman concurred after trying an anamorphic signal.
At this point I'm not sure if it's a problem with the H31 or the Momitsu, but I'm leaning heavily towards an H31 problem with handling 854x480 signals.
I will be trying some new custom settings tonight thanks to the new program link above. Hopefully it's a problem with just coming up with the correct custom #'s, but I doubt it.

I'm getting a bit frustrated, here... I'm using the CRV4880 app, and none of the QuickList settings seem to be working. I tried using Powerstrip to dial in the configuration, then ran the Pstrip conversion and entered the numbers into the Momi DVD player. But this leaves me with unused black bars at the bottom and left of my screen. The problem, apparently, is due to limitations of the Momi's "video card" (especially wrt refresh rates) relative to the Nvidia card in my PC. Everything looks fine in Pstrip, but those settings don't work properly on the DVD player.
The monitor is an NEC 42XM2 plasma (native rez=1024x768) and I'm trying to configure the Momi to output 1024x768p @ 70 or 72 Hz.
Is there such thing as a (software) video card emulator that could more closely simulate the capabilites and characteristics of the Momi so that changes in Powerstrip would actually be WYSIWYG when entered into the DVD player?
Alternatively, has anyone come up with a 1024x768p resolution for the Momi that's > 60Hz? If so, could you please post here. Thanks!

I would appreciate some help please. I'm trying to setup my v800dx to my LCD display at 1366x768. I used the wizard from the first page but the image is too far to the right, so I get a black bar about 1 inch in size from the left side of the screen. The funny part is my TV says its getting a 1280x768 picture.
Does any one know which setting I change to move the picture left so it fills the screen?
Cheers
