View Full Version : xbr400 and 1080i image = off center
well i finally got to feed my tv a hd image(1080i) via an xbox game, and the image is of center.
since it has been a long time since i did any service menu adjustments i was hoping someone could help me out here.
i need to center the image, not sure if it's overscan or just pushed to the right to much . what settings should i change in the menu to adjust, and will it be system wide or just for 1080i, which is what i need.

Ah...someone else who has my TV.
You may want to actually check all the video settings on the Xbox first. It may be as simple as that. See if everything is centered, etc.
no xbox is fine. it has to do with 1080i. all other games are centered.

I'm actually seeing the same problem. 480I and 480P display perfect with proper centering and proper size but when I play a 720P game the picture is stretched passed the TVs boarders. I tried to decrease the size so it would fit but doing that made all the other resolutions smaller. Any idea on how to fix this?

What happens if you fool with the Xbox's video settings as it pertains to 4:3 vs. 16:9.
I'd concentrate on the video meny of the TV itself and then the Xbox's video settings.
Also, I notice on my 400 that in the video menu, if you scroll all the way to the bottom, you actually have the manual choice of selecting interlaced or progressive. See if that halps...

adjust the mid3 settings on your sony xbr, it solely affects the 1080i, you can resize and position it as you want without affecting the other inputs. MID2 is for 720p,
hey Neo that's the response I was looking for. However are we talking about the same model? The xbr400 does not do 720p, so I am wondering if you are telling me about a setting that does not exist on an xbr400.

doesnt the xbr400 upconvert 720p to 1080i like the other sonys, im pretty sure it does, anyway test it out, like i said the mid setting are independent foe each input. play around with them just dont write to memory until you are satisfied

forgot to mention, the mid2 setting on my tv is independent for 720p which get converted to 1080i on my tv, and mid3 is for the pure 1080i that doesnt get upconverted
Neo the xbr400 does not support or upconvert 720p. I will have a look around in the service menu for that setting however.
thanks
Sorry to bring this back up from the depths, but I just got a Bev 6000 HD reciever and my image is definetly way off center to the left. Even when using the built in image centering in the 6000 I have to max it to the right and it's still not quite centered.
Could anyone tell me which setting to change to get rid of the overscan and centering the image. I believe HSIZ would help in centering however I believe I've got a huge overscan problem.

I noticed there was some recent chattering about the XBR400... and was wondering... on my 32" the right side of the screen is brighter than the left. Its been annoying me forever...
A while back i heard there was a solution to this... but never could find out How or what.
If there is anyone out there that can give me information on this, like some step by step instructions, or something close to it, that would be great.
Thanks in advance,

Hwshi,
Thanks for the link!!! Not only did i eliminate the brightness on the right side, but found that i could finally fix the downward curve on the left side of my screen... i seriously feel like my TV is finally perfect.
THANKYOU!!!
Brenden
Wow! Brenden77 and hwshi Thanks!
I've had this problem on my KV36-XBR400 since day one about 4 years ago! Although I initially noticed this problem as the left portion of the screen sagging (bowing) during 16:9 compressed scan mode---but only noticed the uneven brightness until recently--and finally connected the two together.
I even had a lame so-called "Sony service technician" come by the first year (while it was still in warranty)--but his only suggestion was to sit further back! (Talk about dumb.)
And although, I've searched and searched I never found a satifactory description or a solution to the problem...
Looks like what you describe is pretty close to my exact issue. Never thought it could even hope to correct it thru the service menu...
I'm so~ looking forward to seeing if I could at least mitigate the problem using the service menu! :)
Thank you folks!
BTW guys, if you need the Service Manual, just email me. I have a PDF version.

Yeah MID3 is the correct menu to adjust in the sm for 1080i. Mine was also off center.
Glad to have been some help.
Funny to see this thread pushed up again as I came back to revisit this topic.
I never did get around to resolving my issue with 1080i, I do not believe it's just a matter of it being off center. the amount that a station logo is cut off would make me believe that my geometry is off also.
If anyone has had this same issue and resolved the problem I'd love to hear how it was done.
Oyong you have a PM.
