Just heard that Philips is releasing DVP900SA as a replacement for DVD963SA. Can anybody confirm this?
Anybody seen/heard or tested this player?

As the 963 is out of production and not on sale, at least in Europe as I understand (disapeard from Philips web pages), it would be interesting to see the spec for 900SA.
Any release date? In shops now?

Nice. I hope they sorted out the extreme overheating of the 963SA - the discs often get so hot that they stick to the player hub and stay inside when you open the tray!!

And the remote doesn't suck as much as the one on the 963...

soundman, do you know if the Euro version will still have DCDi? I fear they could remove it, like Yamaha did.

Dear All,

ONE unit of BLACK pearl please...

Soundman,

When is this DVD player prepare to launch?
How much is the black pearl cost us? Under 1k or over 1k?
What kind of gensis chipset are they going to use, FL2310 same as 963SA or a upgrade version?
For the video converter, since it is 12-bits/216mhz... Is it the same chipset as the Denon A11?
Is the upscaling 720(p) and 1080(i) can transfer thru component?
Or it is only good for HDMI???

Philips seem to draw the line with HDMI...

Hi All

Sorry Guys, not much news yet, Release is announced in the coming month's.

No price available yet, and nothing about Eur/USA units difference's.

But like always, i will let you know everything i can get my claws into :D

Remember that they announced the 'SACD 900' that never came, and popped up as the 'DVD962SA'

I bought that unit, and two month's later there was the 'DVD963SA'
so i 'had' to buy that unit too. :D

Hi all

Philips removed the black one already.

Only the DVP900SA/69 wich is the hongkong extension stayed.

Hmm not so funny.

Do any AVS friends know whether this new Philips' player can upscale DVD to 720p/1080i through "component output" ??!

I am currently using Philips 963SA with component connection to Sanyo Z1 projector, and am looking forward if the new Philips can output component 1080i to my Z1 !!? :D :D :D

I highly doubt it..just because the Zenith does 1080i through component, don't expect a wave of new players to do the same.

My modified 963sa, which is modified for audio and video, is clearly superior at 480p to the Zenith 318hd at 1080i on my current x1...soon to be 4805.

I have a freshly modded 318 in which over 40 cheap capacitors were changed that I will be comparing to the modded 963sa on both the x1 and 4805 as soon as I get my hands on a 4805.
In other words, you may be better off whith your 963sa modded for video and power supply upgrades than spending money on an upconverting player.

Hey EARZ,
Where and how much, if you don't mind if I ask, for the modding for your 963?

Thanks
Gus

Looks like a promising player. Lets see when the release date is set. Has anyone called Philips to find that out?

Here's another press release (http://www.press.ce.philips.com/apps/c_dir/e3379701.nsf/0/AEFC09EC25811946C1256F010046BB9D?opendocument) , dated Sept. 7, 2004, from Philips Netherlands. No new info, but it at least confirms that the project is still alive.

I really hope this player pans out, I was really happy with the 963SA. The picture fit my preferences just right. If this is an upconverting, HDMI version, it will be my next purchase.

Edit: BTW, According to the manual, it looks like HDMI will be the only route for upconverted video.

Interesting, according to that manual, this player supports DVD-Audio!

I, for one, doubt it.

EDIT: Never mind, it says "standard defination [sic] layer."
