RBH 10AP - great sound, very fast. Thinking of upgrading to an Alon Thunderbolt for a little more punch. I've heard great things about SVS but I really need to audition with my system before I spend the cash.......I wish I knew someone that had an SVS sub, it might make my decision easier.

That dual Citation 7.4 is a sweet set up and one that a lot of people don't know that much about. Since you can choose your own amp(s), you can really power them up if you like. That'll beat the pants off a lot of the high profile stuff being listened to today.

My JBL PS1400 14" twins from the Performance Series are similar except they've got their own amps, which limits them to 400W each. I bolster them with a Fosgate Audionics CS220 THX passive sub driven by 600W bridged.

Thanks.... I agree. Although the DENON Amp does a pretty good job all told (200 wpc into 8 ohms, 350 wpc into 4 ohms), and with the subs being rated at 6 ohms I'm probably getting about 300 wpc... I've been looking into the 1000 watt sampson amps that SVS has. Kinda scary huh?!? :D

Yikes, the man likes his bass!! So, what's that, 272mm of excursion peak-to-peak?

Personally, I don't have a sub, I sold mine when I moved into an apartment. I had a Def. Tech. PF15 before, wasn't enough. Fortunately, I'll be out of here soon and the sub building will commence. For my theater I'll likely have a IB with eight 15" and around 2,000 watts of power. Yeah, that should be enough.:D

Mirage BPS-S210 bipolar, servo feedback, force forward design. 100 pound monster that will do 100DB at 16HZ. Nothing, including the SVS I've tried. have ever even come close to this sub. Superb for music and movies and I doubt it could be built under $3000 these days. If you ever get a chance to hear one....do it! One of their claims to fame was you could put a glass of wine on the cabinet and a fully driven 16HZ signal wouldn't even make a ripple. It doesn't.

Over the past few years, I've owned two Rythmik amps, with no problems at all. First I had the basic amp (1 year warranty), now the special DirectServo model (2 year warranty). They are some of the best plate sub amps available (with that very cool notch filter and damping control). Brian is extremely responsive, and no doubt he would fix any warranteed amp quickly and without question.
Sorry to hear yours flamed out. Obviously the Crown amp will be great for that sub.

BTW: The DirectServo Amp/Driver combo (http://www.rythmikaudio.com/servo_tech.htm) really sounds amazing in the Mini-Thunder! IMHO, better than when I had the AV12 MKII in the same sub. Especially for music. For HT, it equals the AV12 MKII. Highly recommened! :)
The Pic below just shows one of the two opposite firing 12" PR's, the 12" servo driver is bottom firing!

Previously running one DD-15 and one DD-12, upgraded the DD-12 to a DD-15 and couldn't be happier. Both DD-15s are concealed behind chairs in the front of the room. Due to WAF, I couldn't go with a DD-18 as there was no place to hide it. Using the built in 8 band parametric EQs, I have almost ruler flat freq response from 15Hz to 120Hz. Velodyne has really outdone themselves with the DD series.

And not a single Adire Tumult , talk about minority.I built my DIY subs 1 month before the Tumult was announced (or I would have used it). The subs are based off of the Stryke 15.2 design and use the Stryke HE15 driver and 2 18" passive radiators (each). That makes 2 15" drivers and 4 18" PRs in a box. I opted to build two separate enclosures instead of one large box for placement flexibility and weight concerns. Each of the 'small' boxes weighs ~240 lbs. I power the whole thing off a Crown K2 (1250W / sub). Musically it is the equivalent of my old Paradigm Servo-15 except it has more bass extension (and _way_ more output).

Ha!
I didn't mean to make it into an excel spreadsheet graph (although it gives me something to do at work tomorrow :) ) I just meant open up a separate thread with a poll so the bars are automatic. Given there are more than 10 subs, I guess I'll do it by hand.

audiosource 15" driver in a custom ported cabinet driven by a PE 250watt plate amp.
12" philips driver in an 8-foot sealed box built into the floor joists, driven by a 50watt canadian amp. boy, did it make a difference! rocks the house!

can i count the 6 large advent woofers in the L/C/R custom doubles?

BTW- Those are six foot tall MartinLogans, so the scale of the sub is masked a bit. That's a 22" cube the 15" drivers live in.

Old, original Definitive Technology PF1500. What I really like about this pre-DolbyDigital sub is its adjustable high-pass filter. I have powered towers for fronts and setting the high-pass filter on the DefTech at 50Hz and running the sub signal through it to the main subs, setting the LRs to small, and running the LR woofs as subs... Well, I hope you get the picture. With a BFD it will run flat to just below 20Hz. I'd like to upgrade, but with my current setup a high-pass filter would almost be a neccesity. Anybody have them anymore?

LFE channel: 4 Atlantic Technology 8200 PedSub 12" drivers in a custom DIY cabinet, powered by a BEHRINGER EP1500 power amplifier and equalized with a BEHRINGER DSP8024 digital eq.

Servodrive SPL B-DEAP 32 (a pair), 2 Crown K-2 amps (bridged to 5000 Watts).

I got a chance to demo these as the manufacturer was eager to install a pair into an acoustically treated, dedicated theater for trial. So they piled them into the back of a pickup and drove all the way from Chicago to my home just outside of Detroit (5 hours). They promised some big time performance..so, of course, I was interested.

As per the rep of the company (Mark Seaton) who installed them with Chris Collins...We set them up, EQ'd them for the room, put in U-571, turned the gain all the way up to THX reference level, THEN boosted the LFE channel an additional 15 db on top of that and let the U-571 depth charges rip!!

It wasn't the subs that exploded but the structure of my house! It was like an out of body experience, as I knew from all of the excellent subs I'd owned prior, that this type of torture would have destroyed them all.

I was sold!!! The subs stayed! Still nothing out there that can even come close!!!

kgveteran
11-28-04, 12:26 PM
So, 5,000 for each of the subs and 1,499 each for the crown's ? Do these numbers represent current cost about 13,000 for your sub woofer system.

So, 5,000 for each of the subs and 1,499 each for the crown's ? Do these numbers represent current cost about 13,000 for your sub woofer system.

$5,000 is the MSRP for the ContraBass. Jeff's bDeap-32's carry an MSRP of $3,450 each.

Mark,
It looks like those bDeap-32 go from 32hz up ? Maybe I read wrong. Is that more of a musical re-enforcement type design than HT.Do you incorporate a TL circuit to get it to go lower or use multiple cabinets. The stuff looks cool.

The BDEAP-32 is more of a reinforcement design. Jeff is running 2 and is using EQ to smooth things out.

Yep,

They couple to the wall and use it as a diaphragm of sorts. When properly installed and EQ'd, you can have flat useable bass to 12 hz or lower (my amp has a shelf filter at 12 hz so that is as low as I go).

I've heard nothing but great things about the Mirage. Dual 12" has gotta move some air.

I am loving my SVS PB12 Ultra/2. Can't begin to imagine what the B4-Plus would sound like.

JBL Northridge E150P. Anything more and I would probably get evicted from my apartment--I'm pushing my luck as it is.
