What do you guys think is the best TV that can fit in my TV stand? The most limiting requirement is that the width is 28"
It doesn't have to be HD capable, but I would like it.
The on in the lead is an older generation Samsung TXN2798HF. The other one I'm looking at is the current generation Panasonic Tau CT-27HL14. I like the Samsung better because it has 2 component and 1 S-video inputs whereas the Panny has 1 component and 1 S-video input.
However I have no idea which one is better and I dont know if there are any other TV's that I haven't found yet that fit the bill even better. Any and all input would be appreciated

I am looking to upgrade the TV in my bedroom to an HDTV model and have the same 28 inch width constraint. I would also prefer a widescreen model rather than the 4:3 format and DVI input would be nice.

Well it looks like there are more & more of us in the same size dilemma. Hopefully that the Mfg will come up with some new solutions in the new upcoming models. I am looking forward to the new SANYO 27inch now in Canada to be released here. Still trying to get info on size however. If the 30 inch models are any indication this may be a good choice.
I believe also that Toshiba (i think) has a 27 inch model, which has speakers mounted below the tube and will fit into our spaces, keep an eye out for that one as well.

all the 26" widescreens I've looked at come out to 30 or 31" wide because they house the speakers on the side. Agreed that DVI would be nice. For our size constraint I think most LCD's don't qualify

Are you sure that the 27" TV's depth isn't a bigger issue for you?

Try out the Samsung 26" wide model #TXP2675 or 2670. They have a DVi input and even a built in HD receiver. They are around 21 inches in depth though. The speakers may be on the side as stated in an earlier thread, but if you can squeeze them in, this would be an excellent choice. I am sold on mine.:D

I bought the 26" Samsung and love it. You could wait for the Toshiba's with the speakers below but they have far fewer features than the Samsung.
The 27" Panasonic HD ready set should just barely fit. I had the same problem and that's what I ended up getting. I'm pretty happy with it so far.

I am in the same boat as well. I was considering some of the LCD 26" screens with speaker in the front. I know JVC has a model but not sure about the quality. I saw some ads for a similar Panasonic set but the web site did not show it.

The Panasonic would fit at 27 inches but am a bit put off by Tim
sh's comment that he is "pretty happy with it..." What are the features (or lack thereof) that keep you from being very happy with it? I have looked at Samsung mentioned above and the new Sony KV27HS420 but both are too wide. I have pretty much reconciled myself to having to buy an LCD to get everything I want. That also means I will probably have to end up paying more than $1000 for the set. I actually purchased a 23" Gateway but thought the picture quality was pretty poor and ended up returning it. I guess the search still continues

It looks like Toshiba is coming out with a new 26 inch widescreen model that is 27.5 inches wide, model 26HF84. No DVI but it has HDMI input. This may be the answer for me.

I've had a TXN2798HF for about a year now. It works fine for me and I like the fact that it has 2 component inputs (there is also a DVI input). I have an HD cable box on one input and a Home theater PC on the other.
