View Full Version : H/K 330 Multiroom setup
Anyone have any experience with the H/K 330 Mutliroom setup, I can't get it to work. I connected the two speakers from a second zone to the sb connections, changed the config in the multi room setup from surround back to multi room, I get no sound out of the speakers.
Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks...RN
Go to the Multi-room function on the OSD and do the following:
1. Turn Multi-Room ON
2. Select the source try FM first must be tuned to a station. Note that the source must be analog, if using CD or DVD player its analog L/R cable smust be connected.
3. Next adjust the level by the OSD.
What if I wanted to play the same source as selected in the main setup? Also, all I did was connect the two speaker cables from second zone to the sb\multi ports, is there another connection required?
Thanks...RN

YES.
You can play the same source but provided you have selected each source independently like CD for main system and CD for multiroom. But as already advised you need the analog L/R connected from CD audio out as well. For connecting the speakers, just connect the - & + for each the multi room speakers to the surround back speaker outputs on the back of the AVR330...
I got it working.
If I understand this correctly, the power on\off on the remote cannot be used to turn off the multi-room zone. I have to use the multiroom button on the remote and select off to turn it off.
Also, It seems that the only way to control the volume in the multi room zone is via the osd and change the preset level, correct?
Thanks...RN

The multiroom system is designed to have its own dedicated remote sensor located in Zone II, then this sensor is plugged into the MR Sensor input on the back of the AVR330. Once you have this setup, using either the main remote control or Zone II remote control when in Zone II you can control all of the MR functions including On/Off, Volume, Input Select and even tranport controls like CD or DVD if the player is HK. Note that the output codes for the main system and Zone II are the same the only difference is which sensor is sending the commands to the 330. One can control the MR function 3 ways:
1. Through OSD
2. Through AVR330 front panel sensor and main remote control
3. Through MR remote sensor in Zone II with either the Main or Zone II remote control
How do I setup a remote sensor connection? What type of wiring is it and connects what to what?
I apologize for the lack of knowledge here...RN

Thank you very much, M Code. I had the same problem and couldn't get my multi-room to work with my HK 525. It may seem stupid, but I couldn't figure out for the life of me why it wouldn't work. I triple checked the connections and the settings in the OSD, but as soon as I tried going to an analog source, it worked.
Geez...sometimes it is the simple things we overlook.
Thanks again!

Hey I was just looking into replacing my receiver with a 2 zone capable unit and found the AVR 330 and noticed it has a second remote. Is this an RF remote or IF remote.
My question is:
If my receiver is in the basement and my zone 2 is on the floor above will the remote still work or will I have to go downstair to adjust volume ect for zone 2?
Thanks in advance,

Both main remote controls and Zone II are IR type.

Thanks in advance,
You need to have a Zone II remote sensor in your Zone II area an dthen it has to connect to the AVR 330... Available from HK (model HE 1000) and others..

Thanks M Code.
quick question...do I need the remote IR sensor or can I just use an IR/RF signal converter to send the IR signal from the 2nd room to the 1st room?

Any IR repeater/sensor system that delivers the IR stream (without corruption) from Zone II to the AVR 330 MR sensor input (mini-jack) should be fine..
Note that in our Home Theater installs, we typically use Xantech components..
Hmmm... If this works, then whats the purpose of the A-BUS? Why do they provide two ways to do the same thing?
Does A-BUS have any additional benifits?

the unit that connects to the a-bus has the remote sensor, volume control, and a small amp for inwall speakers. it connects using a standard cat 5 network cable, so your speaker connections can still be used for 7.1

Consider A-Bus as an output to a distribution hub..
Then one can put HK AB1 modules into each rooms (up to 4). And keep the AVR built-in amplifiers for 7.1 output in the main room.. Since HK sells alot products into the custom A/V CEDIA market many of their receivers include the A-Bus network output.. Very clever feature idea..
M Code, on the HK 7200 IR out for multiroom, is it possible to use something like the Xantech 490 alone, without a connecting block? I know you need connecting block for more than one room installation, but I just need to run it remote to one room.

The 490 series works fine...
However keep in mind that you that you still need a power module such as the 792-10.. As the remote sensor needs power for itself...
Hi
I have a AVR 335 and would like to use the 2nd room capabilities or surround back amp channels for additional speakers in the same room, Example: The main listening area would have the traditional 5.1 setup for movie watching and the surround backs are used for additional fill when listening to music. This is a very large and open room, Living, Dinning and Kitchen all in one.
At first I thought that this would be know problem just set the unit for 7 channel speaker configuration and just have the surround modes set different for each input. Like DVD and TV surround setting to Dolby 5.1 and cable music to 7 channel stereo. BUT this doesn’t work the receiver defaults to a 7.1 channel surround after switching inputs for all inputs. :(
Has anyone else done this kind of setup and found a way to do this. I only want 7 channel stereo for that one input and all the other inputs use just 5 channel modes.
Regards, Grant
