I am looking at two models from the Sony ES lineup and the are: DVP-NC555ES and DVP-NS999ES (Silver Color). I could get the DVP-NC555ES for $550 and I could get the DVP-NS999ES for $650. Now time for the question: Do you think that the DVP-NS999ES is worth $100 more than the DVP-NC555ES and why?

I would look at getting a DVI DVD player, so that you can get 720p or 1080i output. The Sony ES are nice but only output 480p and its a lot of money.

Does you TV support 720p or 1080i? If so than I would look at player that can upconvert over component cables. Look at Zenith 318, Momitsu V880, Bravo D2, and I know there others that I cannot remember.

is the pictuer quality in these 2 units the same?

I believe these units are really known for their audio/SACD capabilities, not their video (there are better players for PQ nowadays).

Hey aren't you the guy who compared both the Denon 3910 and Pioneer 59avi....you were raving about both units, then decided on the Pioneer as your player of choice.....decided not to keep it or the Denon?

since no one is actually "Helping you choose a Sony ES player" based on your question I would spend an extra $100 for the 999ES.

My dad has one and it puts out a great picture, and as stated before it has very good audio capabilities.
