OK, I need a DVD player within this week. It's for my Dad, whi has a Sony 27" analog...about six years old. Almost sure he has component. So I have gotten input from several AVS folks already, like the Zenith 318, Denon 910 to name two.
I came across a Sony DVP-NS575P that may serve him well and allow for some growth if he up=grades the TV. ANYONE FAMILIAR WITH THIS SONY UNIT ? My Dad could use slightly bigger buttons, and relatively simple / straight-forward operation.
Thanks for any experience with this Sony unit. Oh, it goes for $89. (CC)

I see this player's deinterlacer is motion adaptive, but the hometheaterhifi review says it's only a flag reader?
Although it scored lower than the Toshiba 3960, I am wondering too if I should buy the Sony instead?
In his comments on the Toshiba, he says stuff like (and I'm paraphrasing from memory) "not as good as some of the others in shootout" and for the Sony he says stuff like "fared pretty well against those in July Shootout..." so I wonder.

I exchanged the 3960 for the 575.
The 3960 was combing on enough scenes that I really noticed it (like Deep Impact, in the early telescopy observatory, the diagonal railing was rather jagged), and worse yet, it displayed a great deal of judder. Totally distracted me from the film.
YMMV, though, as this was to a front projector.
With the cheap Sony (which is $89 or so), I didn't notice artifacts and no judder, so far with Punisher and Star Wars.

I have continued to enjoy this Sony dvd player. I like its auto-resume from the last place where you ejected the disc or stopped its playing. It stores the coordinates for up to 6 discs.
One should make sure to enable the dynamic range compression to WIDE BAND so that its default of STANDARD isn't compressing your sound!

Thanks for the advice. I'm also purchasing one for my father in law who has a analog set but within the next year will upgrade to a rear-projection HD set. This should serve his needs.
