Hi, when Im watching my movies I have 4 bars, 2 on the top, 2 on the bottom, both sets of bars dont seem to blend together with another, how would I go about eliminating this? Im getting a calibration dvd in a few days, would calibrating my tv when I get it eliminate it?

A more detailed description of the bars would be useful.
What TV and DVD player models?

well, theres 4 bars, 2 at the top, 2 at the bottoms, the 2 at the top, the upper one is the regular bar used by the tv, and the one below it is the one put their on the dvd, now they arent very noticable, but you can see that the 2 bars dont blend in together perfectly, and leaves it looking kinda weird, it looks like this on the bottom also..now I was just wondering what I could do in my picture settings to eliminate this, or will my dvd essentials video that comes in a few days help eliminate it all together

Im using a Sony KV-FS120 using 16:9 "enhanced mode", and a Sony Playstation 2 DVD player

This is a 4:3 TV? The double bars are only on really widescreen (2.35:1) movies? Less widescreen (1.85) movies only have a single bar?

yea, 4:3 tv, and the movie is a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen

It sounds like the outside set of bars are the ones used because the TV is in enhanced mode and is squishing the picture, the second set is because the DVD player is playing for a 4:3 aspect ratio so it is adding another set of bars on the inside of the TV's mode setting.

I'm not familiar with the tv or dvd player but that's my guess.

This is exactly what's happening. The Brightness (AKA Black Level) needs to be adjusted to be as accurate as possible and to bring the tv and the output of the dvd player more in sync.

The DVE disc should prove to be a real help with this. Be sure to use it with the dvd player you use regularly. In the meantime, at night when there's no ambient light, put in this movie and try to adjust the brightness so that the inner bar looks more like the outer bar (provided by the tv).

Good Luck!
I was just wondering what I could do in my picture settings to eliminate this
Dude, so easy! Just turn down your "brightness" control (black level) until the bar next to the picture area *just* disappears or is *just* noticable if you look for it. That's all! That *is* the correct black level for those DVDs that do this.
