This tv specs at 1500 lines of resolution compared to the sony xbr's 1400. Any thoughts or reviews on thes set verses the 910 or 960?

I don't believe it, JVC doesn't have a fine enough CRT dotpitch to really produce that resolution at the screen.

I have this TV and have been doing some research - I don't think they have 1500 actual lines. I think its some game they are playing with 720 and interpolation - but I have never been able to get anything out of JVC support.

The TV looks darn good though - regardless of how many lines. When I saw this set next to the 910, it looked much better (who knows how they were tweaked though)

Someone with the JVC should use the HDnet HD video resolution test pattern which is shown every Tuesday morning to measure its "true" resolution to settle it once and for all. Then compare with the same test on the Sony 910 or 960.

I don't get HDNet - any other HD channel output a similar signal? Does InHD? I'll be happy to help out in any comparison :)

Only HDnet has the HD test patterns to my knowledge. Direct-TV has HDnet and also many cable systems, hopefully some JVC owner has access to it.

Folks, I can't say I've put the HDNet test pattern on my set, but I can say that I run both my Bravo D1 DVD and my VOOM HD service at 720P and it is absolutely stunning.

If it's not 1500 lines, then they're doing a fabulous job of interpolating.

This set rocks IMO!

How does this TV look with regular NTSC? A former neighbor had last year's 32" HD-ready model and it looked fantastic with regular cable. Great line doubler !

I don't think it looks that great. Looks good with digital cable, but analog stuff is not very good looking most of the time. Its tolerable though.

I run Cox Digital Cable over S-video. For non-satellite stuff, it's about what you'd expect.

I just decided to plunge on this unit. After looking at my other 2 options - the older Sony KV-34HS510 and the new Toshiba 34HF84 (based purely on the size of my cabinet - 23.3 inches is my maximum depth) - I decided that I simply couldn't live with an all silver case. The darker framing around the JVC's screen was very appealing.

However, you'll note that my maximum depth is 23.3 and the JVC specs out to 1/16" deeper than that. All the pictures I've seen of the JVC make it look like the base of the case is slightly less deep that the tube framing. Could someone verify that and perhaps give me a measurement?

Picture wise? Well, if it's half way decent I'll be happy enough. I've had JVCs for the past 15 years or so and I've never had cause to be unhappy.

I'm not at home right now - but yes, the base is slightly smaller than the tube... I'd guess about 1/2". I can measure it when I get home.

The base of the JVC AV 34WP84 recedes inward about 1/2" from the overall depth at the front of the set.

Comment on the PQ. I'm quite certain that you will be more than pleasantly suprised. I've had this set for 6 weeks. So far...it has been outstanding. HD and progressive scan DVD's PQ are awesome! I was VERY happy with the digital cable picture. Recently switched to Satellite (wanted HDTV and Charter Cable is still not providing HD service in our area).
My experience has been that Satellite digital quality is not nearly as good as digital Cable. But the HD more than makes up for it.

Thanks, it sounds like it will work just fine.

Though I do already have a slight bit of dissapointment in the jack-pack. It sure would have been nice to have an A/V out that would make the TV an nice 4 input A/V switch. Oh well, I guess I'll continue to use my A/V receiver.

It arrived, it fits just right, and it's fantastic! I am one happy bunny!

Michael,

where did you get your JVC from?

I can't seem to locate a dealer in my area

thanks,

On the web, Etronics out of NY. Very satisfied with the level of customer service I received. Of course, ordering anything that large and (relatively) expensive over the web is a little disconcerting since you don't get that try before you buy experience but local dealers for this item seem a bit thin on the ground, at least out west!

What are the digital connections on the unit? Does it have HDMI? I am actually considering this unit and the Tosh 34HFX84 as well as the sony 34Xs955 any thoughts?

thanks,

rlm

The only connection is has for digital video is a 19 pin DVI connector. I'm not familiar enough with the technology to expand on that more.

I got my JVC here in CA at the Good Guys. It does not have HDMI but DVI - there are converters though - HDMI is basically DVI with audio all in one cable.

Otherwise it just has 4 sets of inputs - 2 of them can take Component.

The jack pack is the biggest (and perhaps only) dissapointment on this set. But then I've yet to find any single peice of A/V equipment that does everthing I want.
