No one has downloaded the software to enable this?
Gary
Just do a search on the forum and you will find plenty of info on the 1080i firmware.
Here you go , I've done the thinking for you ;-)

Thank you Burtz, I had found that thread just before leaving town.
Has anyone tried it with a North American unit?
I will need some help with the Italian instructions, or is it as simple as downloading to disk and inserting in player?
Do you "play the downloaded disk" or load disk and remove disk in 30 seconds or so?
Will it change the region?
FYI: It is for a NEC 10pg projector, component via extron cv200.
Thank you
Gary

Has anyone with a USA or Canadian model attempted this.

Since no one from North America has come to your aid, here is some info I gleaned from numerous threads for a PM I sent someone with a similar query from Australia recently.
Burn the firmware to CDR, use nero, no multisession, iso9060 mode 2, 4 speed.
Firmware to burn is YUV if you have component cable to your display, or RGB if you use a component to RGB type cable. I don't have RGB so I don't know much about this.
Put it in the player let it do its thing until it says finished and ejects disc, Don't press the open close button after you remove the disk , just push the tray in and then power off the player.
Remember to leave switch on back to progressive even though you want 1080 interlaced as this enables the faroudja chip.
Next you have to do the all region hack, for this you need either a pronto remote control, or I used a palm pilot with remote control software because you need to send an RC6 code to start the sequence.
Then you input 222 222 005 255 and push play on the remote.
Finally if you get to a display mode that doesn't display a picture after switching to 1080i you need the blind restore to 480p sequence
Press buttons on remote in this order
System button, down arrow, right arrow, 7 x down arrow, right arrow, up arrow, OK x 4
As far as I am aware the only difference between country specific 963SA players is the type of outputs SCART or Component etc. There are no country specific firmwares.
Cheers
Burtz

do you have to do the all region hack again to enable the 1080i option? I did my firmware update. However, in the option, it still shows only 480p and unprocessed, very weird. Thanks.

That means the firmware didn't take and it may be a problem with your recording process or media. Made sure you burn at slowest speed as well as have a clean temp folder and fresh defragged HD as a precaution. Try having Nero verify data as part of burning process. Also, I use Plextor's Hide CD-R option and VariRec (default position) recording process to reduce/eliminate errors. In a bad burn you can see "error" show up in the DVD963sa display as the firmware does its thing. Sometimes you can tell somethings amiss since the firmware update session ends very prematurely. In those cases you are left with prior options, not the new ones. Hope this is helpful.
By the way, thanks to Burtz for clearing up some very ubiquitous confusion with the firmwares.
