Alright folks, I am planning to buy a DVI-based DVD Player soon and am wondering which company's DVI cable should be bought.

Now generally I use Monster Cables, not bcoz I consider they are the best but only bcoz I know they shall be good and made right. Thats all.

That being said, care to throw some options out for me? Esp, ones who have bought it already and are using DVI cables. Would like to buy one soon. Also tell me where to buy those cables.

Thanks!

Numerous threads have expressed their opinion that Monster is overpriced for DVI cables. I am a big believer in quality cables for analog, but for digital, it is only outputting 0's and 1's, although for a long run (>5 meters), you need a higher quality cable. Check out Pacific Cables for more reasonably priced DVI cables.

I bougth a cable from Ram Electronics (an AVS forums sponsor). I also bought a monster cable from best buy since I wanted to set up my system and did not want to wait any longer. The monster one from best buy cost about double. When I got my dvi cable from Ram I just returned it to best buy. I did not notice any major difference but againg I am no expert and I did not do A to B comparisons per say.

I am in the middle of waiting for my 2nd cable at 50ft length after the first cheap one did not work with sparklies etc. As people have mentioned DVI does no error-correction and a if a bit flips it changes color completely leading to sparklies... The failure mode is pretty interesting.

All this is relevant only for *long* cable lengths where the quality of the cable/shielding etc matters. I need the 50ft for a projector install. In my temporary setup I have used short generic cables and see absolutely no difference.

15m Bettercables (HDMI-but still relevent). If it's a long run do not compromise with cheap cables.

Beware that pacificcable apparently has issues - it only supports 480, not 720 or 1080. I (and others) found out the hard way after we got them in. See the thread here for more info on the problem:

I'm not sure what cosherer is talking about - I have three Pacific Cable DVI cables (under $30) and they run 720p just fine. I looked at the thread he attached and it seems to me that there are other issues involved...

Lindy cables are also good.

30' DVI-D from bluejeans. Very good, very reasonable. Also using with M1 adaptor from Infocus without issue. No sparklies.

Thanks very valuable info. cannot believe that they do not support HD! Why even bother to make DVI cable then! Will look into the thread and see if it was just the cable or the combo of issues there. So far its been better cables, lindy cable, pacific, monster and blue jeans...I just need 2M cable

1080i works just fine on my DVI Pacific Cable. Not sure what you're talking about.

Maybe its something unique to the new JVC D-ILA sets then. Do any of you who have a working pacific cable have the JVC set?

On a slightly different note, I just got back with a monster dvi/hdmi cable and hooked it up. It worked perfectly whereas the pacific cable did not. But, I saw absolutely zero difference between that and the component connection I had been using.

For those of you with the pacific cable and zero problems, I envy you as it took a cable 4 times the price to get a workable connection for me.

Can't say if its a JVC issue or not, but everything is working great here.

I bought a DVIDL-3 3 Meter DVI-D Male To DVID Male Dual Link Digital Cable
for my Samsung T-351 which goes to my Philips 60" set. You can see tons of artifacts, is this because of the cable? Will another cable make a difference? It's pretty bad because the component looks much better.

I have a 40 ft dvi cable from Bluegeans cable, no problems, half the price of a Monster cable! Its a well built cable with gold ends & the cable is as big as my index finger!

Hi guys:

I am wondering if a dual link DVI cable will with with a MT-800 and a DVD-2900 running at 720p?

Will a dual link work the same as a single link?

Blue Jean Cables (http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/dvi/dviprices.htm): DVI-D Cable, Single Link, 23 foot $66.50 USD. Perfect so far with my Momitsu. The thickness makes routing slightly more difficult, but worth it for the quality.

It could be your cable, but at just 3m, I wouldn't think so. I'd try a different cable, just to be sure.

Mike Perkins:
Dual link will work the same (or better in the unlikely event your equipment can actually use dual link) as single link.
RAM electronics provides nice "single link - dual link" info on this page:
http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/DVI_cables.html#vs

fwiw, I use a single link 7.5m Lindy for my Momitsu-Z2. Momitsu puts out a pretty strong DVI signal. My Motorola HD cable box gives "sparklies" when I connected it with the same cable.

I have a Pacific Cables DVI that is doing just fine, but a friend of mine picked one up for his Samsung STB/DLP combo, and he has red sparkles. If you haven't seen this phenomenon, look here:

http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_11_4/gefen-hdtv-repeater-10-2004.html

It's not a long cable, so one can only surmise that the cable is somehow substandard. I haven't spoken with him recently about this, so I don't know if they have swapped it out for him or not.

Another vote for RAM Electronics here.

I use a 30' dual link (not actually using anything dual link) with no problem at all between my sharp 10K PJ and iScan (but formerly a DVD player).
