I am thinking of purchasing Madden 2005 for the PC - but wanted to know if it supports widescreen mode prior to purchase. I am playing 2004 right now and that version is fine, except for the lack of widescreen support.

i installed and played the game today, 1280x768 (not 720) was one of the selectable resolutions.

Thank you for the information! I believe it is on sale at best buy (or at least it was on Friday) so I will probably pick up a copy. Thanks again for responding to this thread I posted WAY early!

You can set any resolution you want (has limits defined) by modding the configuration file.

Does it stretch the image, or actually increase the field of view?

Have you had success in editing that file? Where exactly is the file and how do you add resolutions?
I would like to get 1280X720 on my BenQ

You can't edit the *.ini file. Once the game starts it reverts to standard resolutions.

I'd recommend buying Madden 2005 instead, for $20 new. (On the PC especially.)
There's no reason to buy 06 over 05 whatsoever.
The so-called additions to 06 are all either annoying, or just plain stink outright. Some of the AI, unbelievably, takes a step backwards, especially on running game and special teams situations.
PC Gamer magazine wasn't kidding when they gave this thing 65/100. You'd do well to leaf through that latest issue and read that review, because it's really dead on for Madden 2006, regardless of platform.
And watch out! EA is starting to charge for using their online service!
There is currently no way to play Madden 2005 or Madden 06 in widescreen mode.

I tried 06 on my XBR960, and nope there is no widescreen support.
What the hell is wrong with EA, why are they so incapable of including full widescreen support in their games?
And I mean real widescreen, not strechedd crap.
I just can't figure it out and it is very frustrating.

Agreed, it makes zero sense.

Why should they care. It's not like we can just buy another football game.

It sucks because they give widescreen options for the xbox version for the last few years.

I know, this is what pisses me off more then anything else.
Exclusive deals should never be allowed.
Now we have 5 years of low innovation by EA because they have no incentive to do so.
Hell it is not like each year they release these titles that they do innovate, each years release is only marginally better then the other.
But it still baffles my mind that it is allmost 2006 and games are still be made with no true widescreen support.
