Hallelujah!! I have seen the light (OK, so it was just the LED flickering)!
This post is for any SureWest Broadband subscribers in the greater Sacramento / Roseville / Elk Grove areas that have their digital television service and use the AminoNEt110 set-top box. If the salesperson told you
that their system was TiVo compatible and you said that you have the ReplayTV equivalent (actually it's better, but I will leave that for another rant) and they said "no problem", that it would work, only to find out that the ReplayTV does not have the Amino as a brand in it's digital cable data base. Well don't cancel your service just yet. I found the elusive control code that SureWest could not.
Doing extensive research into the manufacturer of the AminoNET110 (http://www.aminocom.com/products/aminet110.html), Amino Communications Ltd. (from the UK), I found out that they have a lot of partners in bringing the total package to the consumer. Their software partners that provide the smarts for the STB are also partners with other cable box manufacturers. Its amazing what you can find by surfing the net and Googling for about 5 hours. Anyway, I found that their partners were partners with a number of cable box makers like Pace, Siemens, Thompson and I3Micro. So using that information I went up to my loft this Sunday morning to plod through every possible code that I could find on these boxes if they were in the ReplayTV database. Luckily, I chose Siemens first, as they were mentioned a lot as partners with everyone that Amino was partnered with. Here is what you need to do to get the AminoNET110 to work with your ReplayTV 5XXX box:
You will need to use the IR Blaster to control the Amino STB so have that set up and in place where you can view the LED on the front of the STB.
In the Setup menu choose "Network and Input Settings".
Choose the input option that you are using (ANT,in my case), then choose your provider (SureWest - Roseville {ZIP 95747}), and when it asks you which brand of cable box you have choose "Other".
Then it will give you all the brands that is in the data base. Pick "Siemens".
When it asks if you want to use the default code choose "Other".
Scroll through the code options until you come across code "1265".
Use the navigation Right-Arrow to test the code.
You should see the LED on the Amino flash off then on real quickly, but only once not twice.
You should then go back to the menu that lets you "Keep Settings" and select that.
Then exit to live TV. Try switching channels.
Hopefully it works, it did for me.
I will be sure to inform SureWest Customer Service so that if any ReplayTV users ask how to get their ReplayTVs to work with the Amino STB, they will actually be able to help them.
Please let me know if there are any other SureWest subscribers or other cable subscribers that are using the Amino STB and if you were able to get it to work with your ReplayTV.
Good luck.
