View Full Version : comcast motorola HD dct6200 fine tune question
have a relative with new HD cable box. motorola model dct6200. and wishes to record SD shows thru it
my ? is what code works best 276,476,4476,or 9476...all those turn on the
box. also it sometimes misses the first digit input when selecting a channel from guide, works fine though for manual 3 digit entry to tune. i am wondering what your settings are that work best via the fine tuning section when selecting the box and which of the 4 codes aforementioned. have min digits set to 3. then 400ms,200ms,400ms & 401ms then hit done.
reason i ask is as he is some distance away and doing these adjustments via phone and cant twiddle it myself.

Send enter: No
Minimum digits to send: 3
Inter-action delay: 0150 ms
Response delay: 0000 ms

Thank you chain777. I just set up my replay 5040 with the DCT-6200 and your IR-blaster setting are working perfectly. My problem is that the picture quality on my 42" HiDef Rear Projection-LCD TV is poor. Just not very sharp. I use S-video from the STB to the replay, then component out from replay to the TV. Is there any way to a better picture from a replay?

Try s-video out to your TV. I know it *seems* like component would be the best choice, but the Replay's line-doubler isn't the greatest. The PQ will never be as good as live, but is really good given a good signal. You'll see the biggest improvement when recording down-converted HD content.
I concur with chain777 - when you go component, you are bypassing your TV's framedoubling and noise reduction technology - s-video should trigger all that processing.
Thanks,
Mike

chain777 and MikeSM - Thank you! Switching from component to s-video output from the Replay resulted in a huge improvement in picture quality. HD channels look great. I was ready to scrap my Replay. Now I think I'll keep it a while.
what do your HD channels 16:9 output look like through the 5040? i was previously recording HD 16:9 channels on the replaytv 5040 through the moto BMC9012 and they appreared fullscreen 16:9 and looked great, but with the same setup and the DCT6200, the HD16:9 channels are squished vertically with quite large black bars at the top and bottom. do you get fullscreen 16:9 recorded through the DCT6200 on the replaytv?

S-video and composite outputs of the Motorola 5100/6200/6208/6412 series are not anamorphic widescreen, so you will get black bars on top and bottom (and sides if viewing on a 16:9 display without zoom enabled). This is one of my biggest complaint about these Moto boxes. For my Motorola 6412 HD PVR box I am going through an alternate lengthy process to extract HD Mpeg2 TS from firewire port and then transcoding to DVD compliant mpeg2 so as to make good-looking 16:9 DVDs of "24". All this mess because I want to preserve the full 16:9 picture - otherwise it would be much easier to just use RTV to record the downconverted signal and save a lot of trouble.
