I have just retired from my city job, and moved out to the country. (Moving is enough to make you wanna go digital...)
And setting up the HT again, came to a horrible realisation. We get NO HD broadcasts out here in the sticks...nuffin. No HD satellite available in this country either.
I've downloaded all the WMV and DVICO clips, and own a few HD DVD titles (T2 coral reef etc), but was wondering if any kindly people in the land of the HD transmissions would have any really cool recorded HDTV that would be good for demos.
Anything would be luvverly, even old sports games...
I can swap for Aussie beer, or some of my old out of print 3D movies or I dunno, anything.
If anyone has some stuff they could stick onto DVDR please let me know, it would be much appreciated.
Cheers

I don't have an HD recorder either, but you'd get more response if you offered up Aussie women, what's up with that?

I'm bummed too... we just moved outside the range of OTA HD...
I've got a bunch of 3-10 minutes clips of broadcast HDTV from my FusionHDTV card. Good demo segments. Including last year's Victoria's Secrets show ;)
I can send you some DVD-R's. Requires a HTPC... uses the free demo HD player on dvico.com
If interested, PM your address.

Clarence, that would be absolutely fantastic. There will be many appreciative Aussies once it does the rounds...You have PM.
The sad thing is I have a HDTV card, just no signals anymore :(
Curt, if I get any HDTV recordings of Aussie girls, I'll send them your way!

I'm in 20132 (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/attachment.php?s=&postid=4353876&fullpage=1).
I can get a 50% signal on only a couple of channels if I move my Silver Sensor antenna around... but nothing like the six 90%+ channels that I got in our previous house at 20170.
I'm sure I could get a better signal if I put up a rooftop or attic antenna.

Yeah, If you do, get an amplifier that mounts on or near the antenna.

2 things.
1. Go to Anetnnaweb.org and find the HD channels closet to you and the directions of the signal.
2. Read the Primer on projectorexpert.com. This gives you some really good technical info on how to get an hd signal. Pete putnam ran a seminar for us here in philly and showed us how to pull in a good signal in some difficult locations.
If you need more help drop me a line.

at least something shows up on your screen where we are if it wasn,t for cable and just using an antenna we would get one super grainy picture that is totally unwatchable,(mountains both sides of town) even sat tv leaves allot to be desired............

Just a personal anecdote. We originally had an attic antenna installed, and we got the analog broadcasts fine, but none of the digitals.
Finally got the same antenna up on the rooftop, and now the analog channels are much better, plus we get 8 digital channels.
If you can, it's worth putting that antenna up higher.

Now if only I could get the eifell (sp?) tower stuck on my roof and wired up, maybe I could get some HD action.
Clarence, you don't have a roof antenna?!? I think thats almost unheard of here, Oz is a veritable jungle of them
Clarence

Clarence, you don't have a roof antenna?!?Nope... We've got DishTV. And the Silver Sensor set-top antenna was sufficient for OTA HD in our previous house.

So Australia has HDTV in the cities?
we have HD in some cities, and depending which cities is wether the HD is simply scaled up from SD. Im in the capital of South Australia and I bet the actual 1080i HD broadcast here would be less than 50 hours a week on 4 channels which are broadcasting 1080i. Then again on the east coast where most of the population is I think they get nearly everything in HD

09-18-04, 05:34 PM
Just out of curiostity, is it NTSC? Or rather, how many frames per second is your HD in?
Mark_A_W
09-18-04, 05:49 PM
Yeah, we get a fair bit in HD, but because of the STUPID EX-MINISTER FOR COMMUNICATIONS, and a particular well known Hi-Fi retailer/lobbiest, we get everything triple cast:
Analog
SD Digital
HD Digital
Ok, we still need analog, but piggybacking SD and HD on the same channel- to be "backwards compatible", was MADNESS. Our HD quality suffers as a result.
What they should've done was only broadcast HD, and instead of getting cheap SD set top boxes, we would have cheap HD to SD downscaling, 576i output boxes.
Then our HD wouldn't be compromised and the price of true HD boxes may have gone down as well - if they shared components with the SD boxes.
It should be noted that the retailler/lobbiest, while being very helpful in getting digital off the ground, was importing expensive European TV's that were NOT HD compatible at the time....

Wow! I mailed it Saturday and when I had to fill out a customs form I figured it would sit in a pile for weeks or months before you got it!
Literally halfway around the world in 3 days... not too shabby.
For those that don't already have the dvico FusionHD player:
- run FusionHDTVDemo2.00.exe on the DVD+R
- click "Install FusionHDTV demo"
- Next, Next, Next, Next, Restart
Then it's easiest to just copy the .ts files from the DVD to
C:\Program Files\DVICO\FusionHDTVDemo\Down

Why don't you guys just use something like Bit Torrent to seed it like the other demo DVD's that Clarence put out? Anyone can then pull/share it.
