I am thinking of buying one of these 2 sets and I'm looking for honest feedback from someone who has had both in their house (alot of people on this board tend to return one model to get another) so if you can comment on either one, please let me know your thoughts of which is the better quality purchase.

Thankyou for your feedback

I can give you some Feedback on the Toshiba 24AF44

+'s

16:9 compression mode in all Video modes, including the coax jack.
Very clean sharp picture.
Good sound options.

-'s

VSM is on, with no way to turn off in the standard menu.
Red cut/Drive is to high, be nice if I could find the darn secret service mode on the NET somewhare, search'd high&Low to no avail.
No menu or video buttons on the front pannel of the Set.

That's it so far, overall I'd rate it a 3 1/2-4 1/2 stars for the set if I could get into the secret sevice mode to tweek the set. Outta the box set rating?, Maybe around 2 1/2 to 3 stars.

Hope that helps you a little?

Don't have either set but I would go with the Toshba because it has the 16:9 DVD Mode. Also if I'm not mistaken the Toshiba has Audio & Video Outputs & the Sony doesn't. Check cnet.com because they have reviews on the older Sony & Toshiba 24" models which are pretty much the same as the new models except Toshiba added the DVD Mode compared to the one they tested.

I took that Toshiba 24" back after six days. It has that "eeeeeeeeeee" eminating from the back. I loved the P.Q., the sound out of the speakers was fine for a TV that size and price...but several others have noticed the same high-pitched tone that is like fingernails on a blackboard after awhile. It is NOT the speakers. If you push the sound up high enough, it is not audible for most. I had this small unit in a bedroom application, and often listened a little late, so had the volume down out of consideration of family.
Just my two cents worth.:(

Oh, ended up with a Sony 27HS420 hi-def. Love it! But it is a little BIG for some bedroom applications.

Well, I had both these sets at home several months ago and I kept the Toshiba. I can watch it from 7 feet away and it loses no clarity. There was nothing wrong with the Sony, but the Toshiba had a sharper picture, more display options and was less expensive. Incidentally, I didn't like the 32-inch Toshiba I also brought home, so I returned it. Next to the 24-inch Toshiba, its picture was weak. Probably, if I'd had just the 32-incher there, I would have liked it, but the 24-inch set was so sharp, that neighbors thought I had an HDTV, when I played back tapes from my VX2100 camcorder.

I've never heard any noises from the Toshiba. I fooled around with the picture settings for days, before I finally got it just right. Now it seems to be good for any type of video material, without further adjustment. I'm using it as my main monitor for DV video editing as well as general viewing purposes and I am very pleased. I picked up a 3-year GE extended warranty on it for $35. and an ace repair shop is just blocks away, if anything goes wrong.

I really liked the Toshiba, The picture quality was excellent. Once I reduced the color level a little from the preset, it was one of the best looking SD TV's I've seen. The problem was that it would not work with my TiVo's. When it was hooked up to either one, it had a very bad hiss. Longer Audio cables made it even worse. I suspect a bad ground in the Audio input. I took it back to BB, and exchanged it for the Sony.

I like the Sony, but I don't think it has has as good a picture as the Toshiba, but it works with the TiVo with no problem.

Are you sure you didn't just get a bad one? I'm thinking about buying this for my bedroom, but will be connecting a DirecTV/TiVo to it...

It's between this and the Sony KV24FS120; but I can get the Toshiba for $60 cheaper, and everyone says the picture is better.

How are the speakers on it? Since it's a bedroom TV< I won't have room for external speakers.
