View Full Version : Does Pioneer Elite 520HD have DVI?
I have a Pioneer Elite Pro-520HD projection TV. I know this is a dumb question, but I was wondering if I have a DVI input. One of the inputs on the back of the unit looks like a computer monitor input jack and is labeled "RGB." There is a swtich for the jack that allows you to select "S-Video/Video" or "RGB." The manual indicates that this input is designed for "output from digital tuners and the like." Is this a DVI input?
Thanks

No, it's a VGA input. A DVI input would look like one of the inputs on this switch.

Too, bad. You should NEVER buy an HDTV without DVI or HDMI with HDCP. When all or most HD programs become encrypted you will not be watching them!

I believe when he bought that TV, HDMI wasn't even being though of, let alone DVI, there are some people out there with older sets you know...
He and many others should have waited until DVI came out, it was most likely known of when he and many others purchased HDTV's without it. Otherwise one without DVI should sell their HDTV's before they become of any less value.

you are going.
You probably want to get a digital signal from a DVD player to the 520. It appears that we are not going to be able to get this capability. So, I guess that my current 520 will become the 2nd TV and I will get a Samsung with HDMI for the primary and upgrade to 61 inch and DLP at the same time.
The other question I have been trying to solve is the "upscaling" from a DVD player to my 520. My pic from a cheapo DVD player is pretty damn good. Not quite the HD pic I get, but it sure is nice. Of course I've been reading about everyone getting a much better pic from DVD players that can upscale.
Our 520's appear to be doing the upscaling itself with their PureCinema Format Converter, this is probably why the DVD pic is pretty good. I can see how it could get better, and people are saying HD like so that's why I've been on the search for this answer.
If anyone can shed light on my DVD to 520 upscaling quest, I sure would be appreciative.

BTW, my RGB input is hooked up to my HD DirecTV received for HD signal.
