I understand that to use unit codes on Replays, you program a remote with the unit code and upon rebooting the first unit code the Replay sees it will respond to. It will also respond to the original remote.

Doesn't this mean you'd have to reset the unit code at least weekly when the unit does a maintenance reboot?

If you are talking about 5k units, you can configure the unit code that
replay responds to by pressing

menu->setup
243-zones

These persist through reboots.

I don't think the showstoppers perform maintenance reboots.

This post should have everything you need:

Thanks, I was going crazy looking for that screen.

What's the difference between "lockout code" and "machine code"

If I program a jp1 remote with different unit codes, what would I change on the Replays?

Lockout code is an anternate method of dealing with multiple units in
the same location. Press 105-Zones and every unit ignores remote
commands except the unit with lockout code 105. You'd place that
at the beginning of the macro for device selection.

Unit code is probably what you are after. Every IR command will
have embedded in it the subunit code (because you used JP1 to
program the remotes).

Therefore the IR commands are no longer stepping over each other and
have unique IR command spaces which don't overlap.

So to answer your last question, you'd use "machine code" then create
however many custom devices to upload to your remote, each with a
different subunit/machine code to match the ones you configured in the
replay.

Hi,
Is there a way to do this on two DISHTV receivers? I see in the status page that the remotes are assigned to 1 but how do I change them?
Is there a thread or faq that describes this? I didn't really know what keyworkds to search on.

Best Regards

One additional bit of information regarding the use of the "Unit code" feature - All ReplayTV's, will ALWAYS respond to remote control IR signals that are designated "Unit Code 0" regardless of what the specific unit code happens to be set to on that RTV at that time.

IIRC, 2k's, 3k's and ShowStppers only respond to Unit code 0.

After considering the method by which the unit code is changed and fact that it's all to easy to interrupt the unit power either intentionally or by accident, but regardless it all goes *poof* and vanishes forever. I'm starting to think that my incorrect IIRC might actually have been more like an intentional subconscious blocking out of a highly traumatic memory. :D

Yup, even the Robman's original link is now misdirected. But the rest of the thread may be informative:
