View Full Version : IR Blaster Suddenly Acting Up

Anyone come home one day to find that your IR blaster is changing channels to "333" or "433" regardless of the channel you select from the RTV guide? I have Comcast Digital Cable. It's almost as if Comcast changed the IR input requirements for the cable box and now my 5040 is sending an incorrect or "old" signal? It was working perfect...until today.
One possible source of the trouble is that I notice that Comcast has changed the format of their channel guide at the bottom of the screen. This happened last night and seems to have been the time this problem surfaced with my IR blaster. Coincidence???

Mine has done exactly that since the Comcast On Screen Menu update!!!! Let me know if you find a fix..... I have tried all the codes including custom and the problem persists!!!!!!

See this (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?postid=4437292#post4437292) post. Try those settings. There are other codes mentioned in that thread, one of them should take care of the problem.

Andy, thanks a million! :)
The link above from your previous post guided me through the changes I needed to make. Specifically, I changed my IR blaster code per your instruction to "7400". It had been previously set to 0446. I have a Motorola DCT-2224 digital cable box. Anyway, that did the trick and channel changes are back to normal again.
Hope this helps others too. I can't be the only one impacted by this overnight programming change compliments of Comcast in the Detroit area.

This forum has once again saved me a lot of grief. Although I didn't realize it, both my cable boxes had been mutated by Comcast (metro Boston) some time in the last few days. Code 7400 did the trick to get things back to normal. Thanks to all who pointed me in the right direction.

Holy crap! You guys rock!!! I was freaking out when I got home and my precious Replay wasn't working. I feared the worst. After some troubleshooting, I narrowed down the cause of the problem to the Comcast channel guide change. Thanks for posting the 7400 code. It worked like a charm!!! Plus, relieved a lot of stress. Don't know if I could have gone another night without Replay...

I don't mean to sound repetitive...but Thanks guys!
Damn Comcast!
7400 didn't work for me, but changing from 4476 to 0276 did. I have a DCT 2000.

My IR Blaster went schizoid on me last night. Today Tech Support had me
1. Change Input 1 to nothing. It was set to Digital Cable Box with 4476
2. Change Input 2 to nothing. It was set to nothing.
3. Change IRBlaster code under ANT/CATV to 0810. It was set to Digital
Cable Box with 4476
4. Clear the Channel Guide TWICE under 234 Zones. Something to do with
a system backup copy.
5. Connect to the network and download the Channel Guide again.
This seems to have resolved the problems.
BTW this was with a 5040 and Comcast Digital Motorola DCT2224 in Boston
Tech support was courteous and helpful. Both a pleasant surprise.javascript:smilie(':D')

Is it a coincidence that Comcast has been rolling out their homebrew DVR, and at the same time, they modify their cable boxes in such a way that predominantly Tivo and Replay users would be negatively affected (resulting in what would likely be numerous customer service calls to their competition and/or dissatistifaction with the competition's products)? What possibly could be the purpose in changing the functionality of the cable box IR receiver?
The changes they've been sending to the cable boxes presumably include new firmware, to implement the new program guide format and other changes.
Motorola STB's have always had a flaky interaction with the IR Blaster, so it's not totally surprising that a new firmware version would have issues. I have difficulty believing that they would do this on purpose -- it's an investigation waiting to happen, especially in the post-Enron climate of corporate suspicion.

I don't suppose Comcast enabled the serial port on the Motorola cable boxes in this process?
I doubt that the enabled the serial port. One can dream though.
Thanks for the link to the other thread. It was a lifesaver.

Anyone having problems with their cable box now? I got the IR blaster fixed, but my remote doesn't seem to work with it anymore for things like Menu and On Demand
Sorry...off topic I know.

THANK YOU!

Had the same IR blaster probs, w/comcast, motorola 2224, etc. Used the 7400 code and it works like a charm. I lost my schedule info, but I assume i can find a way to get that back. Thanks for the info. I'm new to AVS and a true believer now!

On the DCT 2244.
Sorry guys, I've been analog cable up to the weekend...and I just can't find the photocell on this thing.
Thanks for the excellent advice within this thread!

The photocell is midway between the Power/AB Label and the Up/Down Channel selector......

My Father is running into the same problem. I see three different codes
being reported above as solutions - 7400 seems most common, but
I see 0810 suggested by RePlay tech support. I also see 0276 working for
someone with a DCT2000. My father has a DCT2200, so I will suggest the
7400 code first, but does anyone know the differences, and/or pros and cons,
of these different codes?
Thanks,
Ben
Comcast finally got around to "upgrading" Minneapolis, too bad it was 11 days before the end of my vacation, but atleast it was a painless fix. Thank you all for your help.
