Specifically, I need something with DOORS. (Got a 1 year old with one on the way).

Been looking at some of the Ikea things, but the weight makes it interesting.

I don't know what style you are looking for, but we had similar requirements with doors and of course the weight issue.

We found this wood stand (very heavy and nice) at JC Penny of all places.
Paid $280 for it.
It has four adjustable shelves for various components and holds our Sony 34XS955 nicely. (about the same size and weight as your XBR)

If you would like to see more pics of it let me know.

Wow - back off from some sites - thanks for the GREAT tip - yours looks really nice!

The following looks pretty good, and has glass doors to boot (I'm not on all RF remotes yet):

Thanks again...

I'd recomend scrapping the idea of putting your equipment under the tube and putting it in a nearby closet... Did this a year ago - great move: No knobs, no access to PB&J in the DVD player. IF it's an option see the integration section of AVS.

hey FXDWG - how deep is your TV / stand? I'm seeing some that are within 2" of the set's depth, and I'm assuming that the overhang on top doesn't come into play.

Marshall F - no closets nearby. Although, the cablecard on the 960 will drop me one box, which is nice :)

Make sure you're getting good info. I bought a very nice Sanus stand after this site (http://www.racksandstands.com/prods/Sanus/WFD3/0PSY0080.htm) said it would hold 350 pounds [edit: since fixed after I complained] ... only to find later that the manufacturer (https://www.sanus.com/cgi-bin/web_store.cgi?page=products/furniture/woodbrook/WFD3c.html&cart_id=6040439_29885) has it rated for only 125 pounds.

Ah well ... I haven't bought my new set yet and was leaning toward a 30-inch set anyway.

The sides of it are 20 1/2" deep while the front curves out a bit and is 22".
There is just a bit of overhang on the back of the set (XS955) but it is fully supported.

Here are pics with the doors open.

I got the SUXBR1 stand which was intended for the 910 but fits perfectly fine with 960.As for color difference the 960 is metalic blue and the suxbr1 stand is silver although from a distance you really cant notice the color difference. Also I got the Sony SUXBR1 stand off ebay brand new never been opened for half of the retail price is for the SUXBR3 stand.Trust me for what I saved in getting the stand the color difference isnt to bad and the stand was welll worth the price.

I'm using a Ralph Lauren entertainment center and it fits my 960 perfectly (40.5 wide (sweeeeeet) --- I took the wood back off and replaced it with a piece of wood board painted black(my wife didn't want me to pop out the precut holes in case we use it as a armoire later on)) It's a bit pricey but it is a really nice piece. Check the height of your receiver as it only accepts 6 3/8" (had to trim the rubber feet on my onkyo reciever to fit and put a computer fan to circulate air)

I found the website for it if anyones interested

spider4re,

Do you have this set yourself? I had this ordered through Tweeters in the Washington, DC area, but even with two weeks notice, and payment for the TV, they couldn't deliver on the scheduled date. I told them to stuff it and return my money. I'm still waiting for my money back and then I will try and find a reliable vendor from which to purchase the TV.

Anyway, just wondered if you had any comments concerning this TV (KD34XBR690) from your direct experience.

I got an 34xs955 (same size as 960) in fredrick @ CC and they had the xbr960 there. I got this stand (stock photo, not my house):

I looked around for a wood stand with glass doors.

I was originally looking for one for a 46" Samsung DLP (43" wide).
I later returnded the Sammy and the XBR960 is my probable plan B
(unless I can get the wife to ok the $$$ for a 42" plasma).

The stand I got was from a B&M furniture store - but many of your typical
"Discount Oak" types of stores may carry it or be able to order it.

The manufacturer is Aspen Furniture:

http://www.aspenfurniture.com/Digital%20Solutions/OTF%20Console_Data.htm

The model# I got is OTF2110-CO, but they come in a couple of different styles and
finishes.

It is a solid (well made) piece of oak furniture. It is 45" wide (almost perfect fit for the DLP),
23" high, and 25" deep (deep enough for the Sony). I found it in multiple stores, priced
from $298 to $369. It has two glass doors with two shelves (one adjustable) on each
side and will easily fit 2 components on each side (including deep components like
a Sony CD megachanger - ~22" deep. The only think I had to do was cut a couple
more cable openings in the thin back wood wall.

I don't have a spec for the max weight, but it supports my weight fine sitting or standing
on it.

It comes with casters from the manufacturer that they claim you should remove before
using. I left them on for my current set (and would have left them on for the DLP) and
am not sore what I would do if I got the heavy Sonny (~200lbs).

I'm using a Bush model VS05836, center glass door and a door on either side - lots of storage.

There's a picture of it
here (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?j=1&CategoryID=cat03116&id=1089890470050&skuId=6781538&type=product)

Put it together in about 2-3 hours. I like it, it is made of quite heavy wood/particle plus is has a weight attached to the bottom back (removable) to conterbalance the front heavy nature of tv's like the 960. If you like I can email you a picture of my set on it.

Is there anything just like the xbr3, but with more component shelves?

I just bought the su-xbr3 for my 34XBR960 (to be delivered next week) and found out that you can actually order another smoked glass shelf. The stand will then have 2 solid shelves, an improvement over one for sure.

Know it's a cardinal sin to open a thread this old, but hindsight is guiding me...

So, I spurned everyone's suggestions, and went IKEA Magiker. Nice stand, perfect size, etc.

HOWEVER...

It's now bowing. Enough that I'm seriously considering replacing it. I **know** others are using this stand, so I'm interested if anyone else is seeing this.

Also, anyone come across any newer stands they would recommend?

Attaching pics for reference... As you can see, it's more than noticeable. Also, seeing as one of the spaces is for my son's toys (!)

Oh, that looks bad =x. I have a Benno stand myself so I really can't offer any help. Although now I'm going to be paranoid about my stand and am probably gonna check on it more often now. I have a 34xs955, which is a little bit heavier than the 960 if I remember correctly. Hopefully someone with a Magiker stand will chime in soon.

I picked up a very nice stand at Circuit City last month for my Sony 36XS995. It is the SCON model by Nea Moda (distributed by Slam Brands.) It's approximately 40" wide, supported by four metal tube posts and a "wire-hiding" backboard, with a long glass shelf going down the middle. It also has smoked-glass doors with mahogany-veneer accents (The sides are open, however, which may be a problem with your kids.) Most important feature of this stand : it is UL rated for 580lbs!!!
I got it on clearance for $90, so YMMV in finding out your local Circuit City.

CaseCom, I don't know where you get the impression that the stand will only hold 125 pounds. Maybe you're looking at the product weight? Both Sanus and Racks and Stands show this item as being able to support up to 350 lbs (top shelf capacity).

I have been using this Sanus stand (WFD3) with my 34XBR960 for the last 9 months and it has worked out great! Very sturdy and absolutely stable. Sanus must have changed the model number because it is now called WFV44.

www.sanus.com/cgi-bin/web_store.cgi?page=products/furniture/woodbrook/WFV44c.html&cart_id=1323729_19799

The thing I like is you can buy doors to hide equipment and protect against kids, pets, etc. You can also buy glass inserts for the doors if you wish.

I was looking forever to find an entertainment center to support the weight of the 34XBR960 (195 lbs) and have room for my center channel speaker, A/V receiver, DVD player, and VCR. I finally found the Sauder 400524.
The TV does hang off the back about 4 inches, but it's not a big deal b/c all the weight is in the front near the glass screen. I had to trim some of the back panel to accomadate it, but it's working very well for me. I like my center channel up on top instead of below the TV. The cherry finish perfectly matches my Polk LSi15 towers too!
