Not yet. Maybe one of these days.. I'd have to unlock the log file after each write, and there's a lot of 'em... :)

Ok, Slightly OT, but I'm curious what program listing from Zap2It you're using, and what FTA Channel listings are available. My 4DTV is 'run' from my replay but I use my Integra HDTV/DVB pretty much as a standalone.

I use tail -f to view the wirns.log file.
(cygwin, a free unix shell and tools provides that)

I think that you will see a multi-platform in 2005. I know that kjac has stated it is a priority.

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that the Guide Update from Zap2it labs has been incredibly slow lately, especially during the daytime?

I asked the Zap2it folks when they think we should update the guides...

Ryan,
I set WiRNS to update at 2:10a and when it does it only takes 20 or 30 seconds per day but, for some reason, the auto update didn't trigger last night or the night before so I has to do manual updates during the day. When I do that the updates take about 8 minutes per day.

That could have been because of the mem leak.. I also notice high cpu.. and fixed that also...

Ryan, I get an Windows exception error every time I try to run WiRNS.exe or the service. Text of the error as follows:
WiRNS.exe - Application has generated an exception that could not be handled. Process id=0x6b4 (1716), Thread id=0x74c (1868). Click OK...blah, blah.
WiRNS is not already running when I get this. Even if I try to start the service from the management panel I get the error.
I installed 1.2.6 again and it works fine. Any ideas?
I still cannot get DISH PPV to work either. Anyone else have it working???
Thanks,
Sean
Added the reg key "HKLM/software/wirns/configure" and it is working now w/o the exception error.
Still no Dish PPV.
Again, anyone have DISH PPV working?

nope.. hmmm. I upgraded mine from the latest 1.2.6.x to 1.2.7 without probs...
sean and ryan.. I had everything working from the 1.2.6.x build till you came out with this new one i.e 1.2.7 . I exploded the files as a fresh and it does not show any PPV now. Earlier (i.e with 1.2.6.xxxx) it was showing me each and every channel that i wanted. So I delete the 1.2.7 build and put the 1.2.6.xxxx back and still no PPV info.. :(
Am looking further into this and trying to get it work. Also.. the reg key shows me wirns-->configuration . So how come sean says "wirns-->configure" ?

os is XP sp2
no software firewall--using hardware firewall
any advice?

Inspired by remmer99, I've built 2 plugins:
NoPhoneNumbers and NoReplayZones
Just unzip to your WiRNS\Plugins folder & restart WiRNS.
If you use the Ethernet for connections and/or do not use ReplayZones, this will remove the unnessary traffic and speed up your net connect a little.
They will be inlcuded (including source) in future releases & can be disabled at:
HKLM/WiRNS/Plugins
0 (zero) disables, 1 (one) enables.
Available seperately at http://wirns.zapto.org

Ryan,
Can you list each plug-in and tell us what it's used for, or at least whether it's required for WiRNS to run?
I'm thinking nosoftwareupdate.dll and getshellcommands.dll are generally not needed for people with 5000 Replay machines and I am curious if there are any others.
Also, did you see my note from last week about DNS names not working [for me] in wirns.conf. It works in the ReplayTV configuration (for the RTV IP) but not in the config file.
Thanks,
Jim

Did you do this?
*******You'll need to either delete wirns.db or execute the following line with sqlite3explorer (all 1 line)
CREATE TABLE replayguide (serialnumber,program,episode,description,recordtime,duration,quality,showid)

I just updated the files from Wirns Latest. I can delete the DB's and recreate.

ryan, kjac, sean, wayne .. --> All you guys.. please advice.
A'right guys. Here's my share. I had successfully updated my 5504 with the guide + PPV (without ToDO and Replay Guide) and was working flawless using the 1.2.4 build. I even had the channels mapped and synched (using IR Blaster port no 2000) with those of Pansat (that's a totally different story). But then the lust 'n greed of achieving more and more has brought me to this point where I am now. Since I wanted my 5504 to behave like 5040, so I copied the 530510190 image on my 5504 hard drive and enabled the CA and IVS. Good.. Very Good. EVen cross checked thru Lunatic Heaven that my IVS was working great.
So now I install 1.2.7.11567 along with the changes of 1.2.7.latest. But now it just populated the tables without displaying the info. in the guide format. So I picked up the GuideServer.dll from the 1.2.4 build and boom.. it starts showing me the guide back again but this time without PPV even though these PPV do exist in the tables. I check with SQLLite and the PPV info. does exist in the tables. How and what changes do I need to do to get all the PPV properly.
Secondly, now since I've loaded 5040 image with CA and IVS enabled, when I try to change my zip code it fails on "Getting TV Channels..." message and says that an exception has occured. I've tried using numerous zip codes but they were of no use. All give the same exception message. Even though the request goes thru my WiRNS server and shows me activity that the ReplayTV request is being proxied etc..etc.. and also shows that the plugins for NoPhoneNumbers and NoReplayZones have been initiated but then it times out giving the exception while trying to Get TV Channels step. Any ideas ?
ryan, kjac, sean, wayne .. --> All you guys.. please advice.
Also .. can somebody please modify WiRNS to retain the OFFSET settinngs of the ReplayTV and also the PPV provider once we have configured and saved them. I think that might save the guide in a good format and people will not get that Exception error i.e WiRNSService.BuildToDo(): Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at WiRNS.WiRNSService.BuildToDo()
that is as the last step (though it should not be) while updating the guide..
sudhs
Some more thoughts on "Why No PPV" question. Actually when I opened the databse using SqlLite explorer, did I come to know that even though the table Linesupmaps is properly populated with the PPV info. it's the table named "schedules" that is missing the program entries corresponding to the PPV stations. So that's why the query given below fecthes out only the non-PPV regular channels for which the table "schedules" has been populated.
SELECT L1.name,L1.station,L1.channel,S1.program,S1.station,S1.time,S1.duration,S1.repeat,S1.stereo,S1.subtitled
FROM lineupmaps L1,schedules S1
WHERE L1.station=S1.station
Now.. ryan, kjac, sean, wayne, l8er.. Please throw some light on what's happening that might be preventing the population of the PPV schedules in the "schedules" table.

sudhs:
rjac is kjac (original developer and still very hard at work improving WiRNS).
For your zipcode issue, you will probably have to reboot your RTV (either by unplugging it or holding in the power button). During that time, reboot your WiRNS computer and restart your WiRNS server/service.
Once the reboots are finished, go to setup and change the zipcode to any zipcode outside of Michigan (ex. 10001). When asked to select providers on each input, select "nothing". Keep the settings.
Next, go back and change your zipcode to the one you want to use with WiRNS. Enter the correct provider information for each input. Keep the settings. You should be good to go.
It is a little long and repetitive, I know. However, after many similar situations, that is the one true way to avoid connection error messages (at least for me).
Make sure that your GetShellCommands.dll and NoSoftwareUpdate.dll plugins (thanks j.m.) are active and that you have the shellcmds file (with CA and IVS instructions) in your WiRNS directory to ensure that your 5504 will stay as you want.
I'm sure that Ryan or kjac will address your findings on the PPV and ToDo issues. I'm also sure that if you are able to code, the help would be appreciated.
Regards,
Wayne
Thanks Wayne.. I'll try this time as per your advice on the ReplayTV setup. I can code but not in C++., C# or Develop# which are thre program sbeing used for WiRNS. I'm more on the database and functional side. Can write fast queries though.
Thanks for correcting the name. I know that he's the original dude. Actually it was a typo at one place and the rest being COPY 'N PASTE of the same typo. Hope kjac hasn't seen the post yet. :)
Regards
I still have no PPV either. This is really frustrating. The guide server must not be handling it correctly.
Also a suggestion...the data direct page should query the poopli true/false data in the registry. As it works now it always shows the checkbox "send guide data to poopli" as checked regardless of the registry setting. Same for the Replay lineups edit page.
Thanks,
Sean

New version 1.2.8
Go to http://wirns.zapto.org and go to "Just lemme download" near the bottom.
IMPORTANT!!! Do NOT Upgrade if you're running a version older than 1.1.2.14760. Too many changes to the database, configuration and application.
**** YOU MUST run "wirns.exe -convert" immediately after install if you are running 1.1.5.20152 or older. Otherwise, you'll need to enter IP & DD info again. Replays and other info will not be affected.
**** If you use the DTV PPV or Sports listings, please visit http://www.geocities.com/paglierani and donate.
** YOU WILL HAVE TO DELETE YOUR WIRNS.DB FILE IF YOU'RE RUNNING < 1.2.3.x : follow instructions in install.txt.
WiRNSMon - Can now be used when WiRNS is run as an app (service must be installed)
Still only for WinNT/2K/Xp
1.2.8 1/5/2005
WiRNS
1. Added NoReplayZones and NoPhoneNumbers plugins. Can be disabled in HKLM/WiRNS/plugins with a 0 (zero). Inspired by remmer99
2. Can now use DNS NAMES in wirns.hosts (can still use IP's)
3. Support for up to 11 Replays (Why "11"??? I got tired of editing the little dots...)
4. Fixed DishPPV (again). Made settings external via registry file. Updated reg files will be posted at wirns.zapto.org
For more, see changelog.txt...

PPV - fixed now
dopoopli - default is checked, but if you have it not configured, it won't send. visual cosmetic. but uncheck if making changes to that page.
lineups - visual cosmetic. Just select the correct lineup for that replay when editing.

New version 1.2.8 FWIW, ServerManagment.dll was loading as the second plug-in so I got the "Channel guide only available on server" error message. Shut down WiRNS, moved the plugins to another directory, then brought them back to the plug-ins directory alphabetically except for ServerManagment.dll which I put back last. Then the plug-ins loaded alphabetically, with ServerManagment.dll loaded last.
For the first time, I actually got data on the screen choosing Tools/Replay Guide. Still no ToDo list data, and I did choose the rebuild option then but still no data.
Choosing Tools/Channel Guide, I now get the following display:
http://www.replaytvupgrade.com/download/wirns.jpg.
Should I be able to see an actual Channel Guide? (The screen is blank below the box I cut and pasted).
Thanks for all your hard work, Ryan.

Question for all you gurus out there.. I have been seeing this text called "wirns.hosts" and the "rddns entry" on the forums. What are these ? Is it similar to the windows hosts file located at \winnt\system32\drivers\etc which contains the IP mapping to the host name. If so then please let me know the location of the wirns.hosts file and also the contents. Best would be if somebody can put it as an attachment here on the forum. Also please let me know what does the IVSProvider entry should be infront of the "rddns-production.replaytv.net=" . Currentl the build by ryan has this entry without a # sign in front of it which means it is not commented and probably needs a value. What value to supply ? Is it the IP of the ReplayTV or is it the IP of the computer or the router IP. Secodnly is it really necessary to utilize this file at all if I can get to my IVS thru the internet settings. As I guess that it's used if you have more than 1 replay TV and you want to do the loopback. Correct ?
Answers please. and the wirns.hosts as well as the IVSprovider file as an attachment please.

You should.. in the 5xx channel range... I ran an update with 2 days of data & got that.. maybe change your datadirect days to 12 or 13 & try again...
the file.. didn't need to, but it won't hurt anything.. just has the current/hard-coded settings...

wirns.hosts.sample in your wirns directory
format: ip=ip
or
hostname=hostname <--- but MUST be in DNS
ivsprovider.conf.sample in your wirns directory... see samples
to use them, rename to remove the .sample

Thanks, Ryan. I'll give 1.2.8 a go later tonight.
Sean
May be that everybody should uninstall WIRNS, delete wirns directory and also the registry in the hkey_local_machine\software\wirns i.e the WHOLE REGISTRY itself.. not just the keys.. Wipe it out totally..
That's what I did with my prev. build and installed 1.2.8 and updated guide, restart server, then put in PPV info + Replays and updated again. Got an Exception error at the BuildToDo() function. After that went to Tools-->Show Guide and it was right there. All PPVs this time with the full descrption. Pretty amazing and commendable. Good job Ryan. This is the first time that I'm actually seeing PPV with desc. Good job.. Hope this continue to appear as it does now.
Shows me boxes for ToDo and ReplayTV Guide also but they are empty since there isn't anything on my replaytv. No shows at all.
I have noticed that id the ToDo list exception arises and you say Admin-->ReBuild Todo/ReplayGuide then it does build them.
So now that 85% of this is in working order, my replaytv refuses to do the update. Even though it has shown me all the provider selections, but it still fails on getting the chanels when I try to allocate the providers on different inouts.
Ryan.. one last thing.. you pasted the samples of wirns.hosts etc.. Thanks man.. but I'm still looking for some real nos.. Like what should I put if my
1. Replay TV has an IP of 192.168.0.199
2. WiRNS Server IP - 192.168.0.180
3. WiRNS DNS (which is also my D-Link router) -192.168.0.1
What entry should I put in where in the wirns.hosts file and is it really reqd. similarly for the ivsprovider what to put for rddns-blah..blah=??IP
Regards

Hooooorrraaaayyyyyy... Wooooooo....hooooooo...
*** All thanks to ryan (rbolen), kjac, sean, wayne, l8er, avs, sourceforge.net, planet replay, lunatic heaven, replayfaq and all who contributed to this success..
Got a whole lot of discreet components working together.. Inputs from beginning are
1. I had 5504 which I configured for 5040 i.e for CA and IVS using the 5040_530510190.rtv file. Checked IVS connection thru lhaven. It works at times and it doesn't at others.
2. Successfully downloaded the channel guide. I had a tough time in xferring the channel guide fully thru wirns including PPV. Just as IVS, it used to come in one version and disappear in other. Finally ryan came out with 1.2.8 and is working for me till now. Hope it does so in future too. The
3. Successfully downloaded the IR codes for my Pansat and synched my Replay with it. Going perfect..Flawless..
All I'm left for now is to xfer wirns from my laptop to my desktop and/or buy a wireless bridge or something for the replay. Once that's done, I'll download the perl script and try that the replay automatically wakes up the desktop from standby, downloades the updates and puts it back to standby. Till then I'll run a manual update on the guide.
Now I have some basic questions.. How do I schedule my wirns to download the latest guide and xfer it to the replaytv ? Is it the ToDo list that I need to put the info in ? Secondly once I have scheduled my show download request on poopli, when and how does the show gets xferred to my replay ?
Thanks to all people for sharing their wonderful ideas and thoughts.
sudhs
I'm again getting the exception
WiRNSService.BuildToDo(): Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at WiRNS.WiRNSService.BuildToDo()
and the ReplayGuide is empty. Any inputs ?

Perhaps not.
Has anyone else been running a version for more than 1 update cycle? I started 1.2.7 build 24207 (as a service) on Tuesday and Tuesday night it auto-updated fine but Wednesday night it skipped. From the log it looks like it didn't even try.
I manually updated it this morning (Thursday) and that went fine.

Well, just for grins I tried to look at my web guide and todo this morning. And they were there after I tried the Shift-Update Guide-Todo control. Who knows why this didn't work yesterday. Moon Phases, Sun Spots ??
When operational tweaking calms down, I was wondering if it's technically feasible to include manual records into the ToDo list? I uses them a fair amount and it would be very helpful to have them in the ToDo list so that I can work around potential conflicts. Just an idea.
Another Idea (easy to ask for anyhow), is to add a jump to channel # on the guide. You can select a day, time etc. and it would be nice to have a field to put channel # nnnn as the first channel displayed on a refresh.
As Always, I appreciate the system and the talent that goes into it!
Cliff
Some more enhancements.. I just loaded perl to automatically update the guide at 5:00a.m . Now.. some probs.. From the web site of IVS testing, it shows my IVS connection is alive and kicking. But at home it still shows the job to be 0% completed. It ahs retained that status for approx 8 hrs now. No progress at all. Any updates on this issue will be appreciated.
Secondly, since I've changed the wirns machine from laptop to desktop, so I need to change the dns entries on the replay side to be that of the desktop now. Now when I do so, it does connect but times out while veryfying the network. I even changed from Manual to Automated but in that case it says that it can;t even recognize the comcast's orginal 68.42.144.42 or 5. I can ping comcast's dns servers, ping peers on my network and vice versa and also the replaytv. No probs. All routes are reachable.
I also checked the firewall settings and it's disabled. Can't understand why doesn't the replay accept the network setting properly. Is Win XP SP2 the culprit 'coz that D.top has SP2 while my laptop has SP1. I'm gonna strip off SP2 from my D.top and check again and report the results.
Could not strip off SP2 'coz of some catalog problems. Anybody care to answer if he/she is using SP2 on WIRNS server and replaytv is able to understand the DNS of WIRNS IP.

New version 1.2.8.29238
1.2.8.29238 1/7/2005
WiRNS
1. Fixed DoPoopli checkbox on WiRNS config page.
2. Fixed Edit Replays page. Now shows configured lineup(s).
3. ReplayGuide data uploaded to Poopli every 4 hours (if configured).
4. Fixed Database locking errors. DB will wait for "closed" connection instead of failing.
5. Initial setup much easier & more streamlined.
6. Replays found and added during inital setup & can be scanned on the Replays page.
7. NetConnect fixed.
For more, see changelog.txt...
Ryan,
Any way for WiRNS to still serve guide data when the main ReplayTV servers are down? (As they are this (Sat) afternoon). I made the mistake of clearing the guide data on one of mine to force a reboot, not knowing the ReplayTV servers were down, and now I'm stuck without a guide and a ReplayTV that won't tune to anything. Thanks for the help.

Gary.. I'll check.. But as far as I know, the Replay won't do anything if it doesn't recieve the authorization from the mothership and I don't know if you can just return a "not modified" response...

Short answer..... no. I remember a comment by one of the gurus at the beginning of the WiRNS project which went something like, "it's doable, not advisable and it won't happen unless/until DNNA abandons the ReplayTV project."

Hey all,
I am new to this but followed instructions initially, and got all my channels and ppv data from wirns onto my replay 5504. however, do I need to set ppv to central, because my times are correct but they do not match up to the movies. eg. ppv 515 movie says starts at 3:30pm, but it is in the middle of movie at that time and not at the beginning.
cannot experiment at the moment due to server connection problem at rtv headquarters. I just got this set up last night too. took me a few hours today to realize it was not my pc, rtv, network, etc doh!
I am not able ot view the guide at all, I was able too on the last build b4 the latest but not the current one. reverted back to the old one and still no luck.

I know it's kinda silly, but leave the Dish PPV at Eastern.
The RTV servers are currently down, so you won't be able to get data as everything depends on your Replay authenticating... no RTV server = no guide, even if local.
Oh.. As soon as I can get a few more things ironed out, I'll look into the dish ppv timezone thingy...

thanks so much for the info! no hurry, i am sticking with wirns so... it is just that ppv listings information shows up but the times are current but dont seem to jive with the actual movie. hope my description helps. not sur ehow else to word it, wonder if anyone else is having this problem?
maybe a built in offset for those channels as mine seem to be an hour early ie. movie starts at 5pm central but guide is showing 4pm central. thanks again, just got my replay and loving it, servers down are a bummer and hope they r up soon.
EDIT: 12:14am on 01/09/05,
I reran the configuration and updated guide, this time I used central as the timezone for ppv driver. all is well. movies sync up with guide data at titantv.comand on screen as well. thanks for all the informative posts. I now have channel list remapped and synced perfectly to my pansat 2300.
Hi everybody..
long time no post.. so here i am.. I tried a whole lot to setup a winxp desktop to automatically update my guide using perl but couldn't get the DNS working. So configured an old win 2000 server for the job. (after all what good can a PIII-450Mhz be of) ?
All went smooth.. it goes to standby, wakes up , executes a script etc.. but at the end I'm getting some excpetions.. Can somebody throw a light on it. Seems to be some memory problem. Pleasse help..
Also how do I configure wirns to say that the guide thus downloaded on the desktop gets pushed to my replay.
Lastly, what does the replaytv "ToDo" list denote ?

CLIFFCOR,
how do I set up remapchann.csv for multiple providers?
I am attempting to get guide info for dish and bell express vu. I did just dish and did the remapchan.csv and all is well. I would liek to have all these channels in a guide within the first 999 channels. both providers are on input2 using svideo. can this be done or do i need to offset the second provider (bell) to the 1000 channels and a different input?

hehehehe.. thanks & a big Doh! on my part.. :)
Can somebody please answer two questions of mine
1. What is the function of the ToDo list in the WiRNS program ?
2. I changed my replaytv's IVS port number from 5000 to 29100. I changed this info on my router's port fwding also. Now when I try to get to it thru the Lunatic Heaven website, it says
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Asked ReplayTV server about unit at ISN 00004-54832-61736.
Found on Replay server.
The IP for your ReplayTV is 68.40.162.42
The Port for your ReplayTV is 5000
Unable to contact ReplayTV unit.
500 Can't connect to 68.40.162.42:5000 (connect: timeout)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So it means that my old port no i.e 5000 is till stored on the ReplayTV server. How can I force it to change to 29100 ?

sudhs:
The WiRNS ToDo list gives you an overview of what is scheduled on the various ReplayTV's you have. It is a quick way to see potential conflicts. It is also a convenient way to glance over episode information, etc. Nice little feature.
The reponse which you got on your test connection at Lunatic Heaven shows that you still have port 5000 active. It is real time and means that you probably didn't remove port 5000 from your router's port forwarding configuration. Go into the configuration/port forwarding and make sure that it is unchecked or not still active. Make sure, also, that your port 29100 is active.
One other point that you should check (and so should anyone else who is having ip issues). If your ReplayTV's ip address (not the WiRNS ip) has changed for any reason, make sure that you go into your configuration/port forwarding settings and update to show the new ip address for the port you are using for that ReplayTV. 99.99 percent of network issues pertaining to IVS are due to this.

Wayne

I'm fighting some lock up problems on my PC at home. I don't know if it's related to Wirns running as a service or not.
Where in the vast "Bill Gates Logic" (talk about an oxymoron) of starting various things, can I disable the start up of Wirns on boot up? What I'd like to do is disable that for a spell to confirm or eliminate that from my issues.
Typically, I see the Wirns.exe running in the process window but not the WirnsMon unless I start that program from a menu.
What I'll do while this is going on is to start Wirns from the command line once a day and semi -manually update my RTV's.
Thanks
Cliff

Oh oh.
WiRNS v1.2.8 build 29238 (running as a service) did not auto update last night. Last night was the second night of running this version. The first night updated at 2:20a just fine.
I'll try running as an application for a couple days to see if it auto updates in that mode.
Anybody else seeing this?

Jim:
Can you try something, please? Leave it running as a service and change your auto update times 2 or 3 times today and see how it responds.
I am running as an app and I plan on forcing 2 or 3 auto updates, also.
Ryan:
Based on what I have seen, I think that this build is a grand slam. Everything has been loaded and working for me in perfect sync. Here is where I stand:
I have 6 of my RTV's running on 1 instance of WiRNS. I am using 4 providers (Dish Network, DirectTV, Expressvu and Vidéotron Digital Cable). I guess my concern over character sets was unfounded. The database seems stable and interacts with all of the configuration screen components without issue. There doesn't seem to be a problem with duplicate channels (for me) now.
As I mentioned before, during initial (cleaned and deleted) installation, there is an issue with the "insertion point" being off by one space in each field of the pop-up window. This seems to be the only functional problem on this build. Way to go!!
Regards,
Wayne
Thanks Wayne.. Though I've checked several times the router settings and even rebooted the router twice since I changed ports, I'll COLD BOOT it today when I go home i.e remove the power cord and put it back again. That way nothing can remain in the router's RAM too. Hope that should do away with the problem. Rest all's working fine.
Last night I put the Perl script to force a netconnect on the replay TV for updating the channel guide from my WiRNS server that is always in a standby mode but wakes up to execute this script at 2:00 a.m in the morning.
The only thing that I'm still interested in knowing is that this Perl script when sending a netconnect to my replay makes it download the guide that my WiRNS server has. But I will have to manually update this guide every say 14 days i.e the time limit set in the WiRNS program. So how can we set our WiRNS server to auto update the guide 3 times in a day. I know that the latest 1.2.8.xxxx build runs as a service but how can you tell it as to when to stop and when to run. Secondly, when this service it running, how can you tell it to force a MANUAL GUIDE UPDATE ?
You said it right.. This build does a good job. I do get excpetion while building the ToDo list but I guess that's something to do on my end. Great job done by Ryan on all this stuff and not need to mention all the efforts that you, l8er, kjac have put in. Keep up the good work.

Please don't update 3 times per day. Once per day is (for most users around here) just fine.
The DataDirect service is a privilege extended to us by kjac and the kind folks at the zap2it labs. They are already having issues with server use. We don't want to ruin a good thing.
As you know, the latest builds are configurable for DD download time. Ryan has asked them to let us know what times are considered off peak. When he gets his answer, I hope that we all try to use the service during those times.

Running as a app, I have had 3 auto updates (re-configuring the time after each) without a flaw. 14 days, PPV, ToDo, ReplayGuide all behaving well.
I am going to switch over to run as a service and see what happens.

Thanks for a prompt reply .. Don't worry.. I didn't mean to do it 3 times a day.. That would just be too insane.. hehehe.. Once DD lets us know a good "off-peak time" then we can set our processes to pull the guide at that time.
Hey, when you say that you run WiRNS as APP then does that mean you run it from a command line i.e ODS mode rather than running it as a service. If so then does it automatically update the guide etc.. If so, can you please send me the command line params that I should use to do this "auto update" using APP mode and put this also as a scheduled service to run it once a day to update my guide.
The steps that I currently follow in this whole process are
1. I manually force a MANUAL GUIDE DOWNLOAD on WiRNS to get the guide info from DD ----> This is the manual procedure that I want to automate.
2. The perl script that I was talking about sends a net connect to the replaytv and then the ReplayTV downloads the guide info from WiRNS by "Hijacking the headend request, as we build the channel list locally here" ---> This is an automated procedure using Perl script.
So I believe that running WiRNS as an APP for step 1 can automate that step too and once the update is done then somehow to kill WiRNS APP so that WiRNS can run again for Step 2 thru the Perl script.
Please do let me know about running WiRNS as an APP and the command line that I need to enter to do this so that it can automatically go and download the guide by itself rather than me forcing a Manual Guide Update.
Thanks again for your help..

I'll try running as an application for a couple days to see if it auto updates in that mode.
Anybody else seeing this?

Jim:
Your first auto update should have been at the top of an hour (eg. exactly 2:00am and not 2:20am). If it was not.... did you set your update time in config/DataDirect?
At present, I don't believe, that Ryan defaulted auto update to a particular time. Therefore, if you don't actually choose a time, there will be a problem updating. Once you select a time to update, it will appear in brackets.
Hopefully, that's all there is to your problem.

Go into your WiRNS configuration/DataDirect settings and set your auto update (preferrably to something like 14:00 (2pm). It will update at exactly 2pm everyday (that WiRNS is running at 2pm).
Yes, app mode is command line. You still have all of the WiRNS functionality. Use startwirns.bat to launch app mode.

Wayne,
I do indeed have the time set up. I picked 2:20a at install time and on the first night it updated by itself just fine (see log). It was the second night that it didn't even try. When I forced a manual update it updated fine.
This is not the first build this has happened on. Take a look back and you'll see I posted the same issue on Jan 6 (page 16 of this thread). In the previous time I let it run a 3rd night and it didn't update then either.
So, from my observation I could conclude that, when WiRNS is run as a service, it updates at the precribed time the day it's started and never does it again unless it's forced.
I am just curious if anyone else running as a service has seen similar results.
Jim

Thank you sir!
BTW, the NAT functions have worked perfectly since your advice to open the NTP port. I can't tell you how handy it is not to have to worry about my daughter's guide updates (not to mention trying to keep her current on the WiRNS versions).
FWIW, the remote RTV does not need to be named in the WiRNS setup for it to be able to get guide updates. I removed my daughter's RTV from the listing on my instance and she can still upload the guide no problem. The only things she can't do are use the To-Do List, Channel Guide and Guide Server functions of WiRNS.

Wayne and Ryan,
All's working for me except for one piece and i.e IVS. I've chosen port 5000 and my ISN is 00004-54832-61736. I had changed it to port 29100 and then to port 27000 but they weren't reachable. So I changed it back to 5000. Now I can reach to it again thru. Lunatic Haven. No probs. It pings just fine. So that means all's working good. Correct ? Now the problem that I'm having is that even though I've accepted the show, it has been showing me 0% for the last 2 days. One more thing.. I checked up and verified that my D-Link DI-713P DOES NOT SUPPORT loopback but since I don't have any other ReplayTV so I don't have to bother about it as long as I can reach thru Lunatic Haven. Correct ? Can this be occuring because I converted a 5504 to 5040 ? Please help.

Looks like you are almost there. I just tried to add you to my contact list (to test your connection). I couldn't contact your unit.
As I understand it, just because you get a ping from Lawrence's test page, it doesn't mean that you are 100% good to go.
I don't know anything about the DLink configuration. Hopefully, j.m. or another network guru is around today and can tell you what you need to do. However, a couple of things to ensure:
1- You have nothing else using the port.
2- You entered the ip of the RTV unit properly in the router config/port forwarding information.
3- all of the check boxes that should be checked are checked.
4- patience will be rewarded.

Wayne
Thanks for the prompt reply and consideration. I changed my port from 5000 to 29000 again to test. Then I asked a friend of mine to reach me at http://68.40.162.42:29000/ivs-IVSGetUnitInfo which he could do successfully. Can you also please try to go to this site and check for the results. I'm sure you'll get thru since he successfully did. Then I went to the Lunatic Haven and test it from there. it failed the test from Lunatic Haven. So there's something fishy about this whole setup where it succeeds from one place but fails at the other. Also, the lunatic haven port number failure message is still showing me the old port number i.e 5000.

Did you try rebooting your WiRNS computer after the port forwarding/router changes? That might be worth a try.

When you check the replay server: rddns-rns.replaytv.net
(which is what the replay units do)
rddns lookup 00004-54832-61736
you get a repsonse:
<UnitTicket isn="00004-54832-61736" ip="68.40.162.42" port="5000" lastupdateddate="2005-01-07 07:23:10" />
This says that you are using port 5000 and the last update was on Jan 7.
This is why they cannot contact you since you are on a different port.

Thanks a bunch wayne and gatomon. I think both your comments lead to the conclusion that 'coz of my not shutting down my WiRNS server for the last 3 days (i.e when I've been experimenting with the port no. thing) I'm facing this problem. So first thing I'll do after returning from work will be to shut down the machine, bring it back up again, clear all cookies and temp. internet files. Then i'm gonna fire the Perl script and also make sure that it's gonna update the guide info. + Reply Info + Todo list. Once done, I'll check thru Lunatic Haven and post my coments.
Hey gatomon, where and how did you get the info. (i.e the lastupdatedate etc.) from rddns-rns.replaytv.net ?
Again guys.. thanks a lot for your inputs and help. Since all this has been more-or-less setup for me i.e auto guide update, auto channel update, auto mapping of DISH (110,119 and 61.5) sats. and CA, I'm pretty happy with the moves this forum has made. All the help and inputs from each and every person count a whole lot. The last part that's left is the IVS which I hope will somehow get resolved. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Thanks again..
Regards,
sudhs
wayne.. I think you did send me the 60 mins show earlier, but it never completed. So I asked for some more shows from other users and they didn't complete too. Once this port issue is resolved, I'll request another one from you. Also, please tell me what purpose does the IVSProvider.conf serve out here. It's used for Loopback purposes to override RDDNS data. Since I'm using just one ReplayV, do I really need to configure it with the IP|PORT|ISN ? Bby the way, which IP to use.. ReplayTV IP or WiRNS IP ? I think it should be ReplayTV's IP . Correct ? 'coz the port is that of ReplaTV.
Your comments and suggestions are really appreciated.

You really don't need ivsprovider.conf. It is for loopback. I didn't know how you were configured. (the ip is supposed to be for the RTV unit)
Just double/triple check your routers port forwarding configuration. Cross your fingers. At some point, it was working because we got a transfer started.
Wayne
Wayne.. still no luck man.. I rebooted the WiRNS server and executed the script to do the netconnect and still the port shows 5000. I even configured the IVSprovider as mentioned. Mine is a very simple confgn. i.e one replaytv and one D-Link 713P router, which does not have loopback. I've checked again 'n again for the port mentioned in the "Virtual Server" setting of my router (which is actually the port fwding section) and I've confirmed the IP address also to be the same as ReplayTV but no luck. I think that as gatomon has mentioned that somehow he still sees my status on rdns server to be having port 5000 and it was last updated on Jul 7th. Now I don't know where did he pick up that data from. I mean how did he get to the rdns sever and ask/query for the data. As per gatomon he says ...
------------------------------------------------------
When you check the replay server: rddns-rns.replaytv.net
(which is what the replay units do)
rddns lookup 00004-54832-61736
you get a repsonse:
<UnitTicket isn="00004-54832-61736" ip="68.40.162.42" port="5000" lastupdateddate="2005-01-07 07:23:10" />
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
don't know how and where does he see this data from. But it seems that it's the rdns servers that need to be updated with the new port number. How??.. that I don't know.. Do you have some insight on this one..

sudhs
Ryan, many thanks!
Working great for me now. PPV for Dishnetwork is there. No weirdness in the guide...all channels show the correct info.
Again, thanks!

Check here and at planetreplay.com for one of the network guys to chime in. j.m. hangs out from time to time at planetreplay. He is a wizard with this kind of stuff.
Are you running behind a firewall? Can that be an issue?
Is there any chance of trying another router? Possibly a Linksys would offer another look at this.
It will work itself out.

Does anybody have a clue of how to remove OR replace the IVS port entry on the rddns-production.replaytv.net ? It seems that currently it is set to 5000 but I need to update it with 29000. How can I do it ? Even though I have changed the port fwd to 29000 but the Lunatic Haven still shows an error message syaing that my port is set to 5000.
So which file needs to be updated ? Is it IVSProvider.hosts file or wirns.hosts file or any other file ? Please help..

I have a new 5504, i already am using wirns to get cananda and dish listings with remapped channels. I need to activate it with repalytv though. can i do that through wirns or do i need to reset my ip adress so it will go out normally to activate it?, then reset it fo rwirns and d/l the listings again, or will activating it, force me to d/l different listings?
OK..wayne.. i got the thing working now.. Port 29000.. yooohoooo.. Now the real test is whether the IVS will work or not. So let's give it a try. I'll request a show from you. Please grant permission to my request. Oh.. bythe way the trick was pretty simple.. Since I knew that I had to somehow reset the rddns entry which cannot be done thru a WiRNS server no matter what you put so why not go directly to it. So I changed the statiC IP to automated on my RTV and then said Connect To Replay TV Service which is forced a NetCOnnect. The request said CHekcing for activation, Chekcing for new channels and I disconnected right there so that it does not change my software back to 5504. Now the connection of my RTV to the rddns server and setting the clock were more than enough to reset the port no of my IVS to 29000. I now pinged it thru the IVS tester and it worked like a charm. Then I changed my RTV IP back to the WiRNS IP and all's working fine now. I mean atleast the ping is working fine now from the IVS tester also.
Thanks for your help and efforts on this..

rddns lookup 00004-54832-61736
<UnitTicket isn="00004-54832-61736" ip="68.40.162.42" port="29000" lastupdateddate="2005-01-12 04:23:24" />
It seems it's been updated with port 29000. BTW, rddns is a part of an older
program (replaypc-0.4.0). It's written in "c" and I had to fix a couple of things
to make it work. I've complied it on Mac OSX and linux, I don't do "windows".

Wayne.. I accepted the your send but it still shows me 0% of 112x Mb done. For some reason it's not moving on my side. EVen though my router can now be pinged from IVS tester side for port 29000 but it still does not start the reception of the shows. Any light on this. Can this be some internla error of ReplayTV since I've hacked 5504 to work like 5040. Is there anybody on this forum who has converted a 5504 to 5040 and receiving the shows via IVS ?
Thanks again Wayne..

Wayne,
Good morning. It showed me 0% complete since last night so I added you in my Address Book, recorded "PAIN" from MTV2 and sent the clip to you. Did you get it yet ? From my side the xmission was successful. Atleast that's what the message said and but will only be viewable by the receiver once he OKs to accept it. So please check your received show queues.
Also, can there be a reason for not letting you send another show to me since there's already one show (your 60min shows) from you pending completion to me.
Can you please paste the exact error that it gives you on the screen.
Thanks for all the effort involved here. I really appreciate your help.

New Plugin.
LoginAuthLogout.dll
If the ReplayTV servers are unreachable, this will return a 304 not modified and should let you continue with downloading your channel guide.
**** This does NOT bypass service activation NOR let you "Steal" service NOR let you use the Replay as a manual VCR NOR will it extend the Demo period or monthly subscription.
YOU STILL NEED A VALID ACTIVATION/SUBSCRIPTION
Go to http://wirns.zapto.org and go to "Just lemme download" near the bottom.
To install:
1. shut down WiRNS
2. unzip the dll from the zip file (LoginAuthLogout.zip) to your WiRNS plugins directory
3. start WiRNS
There is no gurantee!!! Different versions of the ReplayTV software behave differently.
This may not work for you.
This plugin will only work with WiRNS 1.2.8 and higher.

Ok... 1.2.9 is in da house!!!
We're gettin' there.. :) Thank to all who help test...
1.2.9 1/12/2005
WiRNS
1. Fixed extra space on config form.
2. Fixed Guide Timer not updating after 1 time.
3. Download shows from your Replay(s) (no status bar yet). Edit path on WiRNS Config page.
4. Changed order of adding replays and inital guide update.
For more, see changelog.txt...

The new installer doesn't let you specify the installation directory.

Hey this WiRNS thing is very cool! :)
Is there a special plug-in for WiNRS to be able to have PPV guide data? I ask as I seem to be able to get regular guide data OK but not PPV guide data.

At present, WiRNS is capable of providing PPV movie listings for Dish Network and PPV movies and sports events for Direct TV. Follow the install instructions for more detail.

Hey Wayne,
Are the show sharing 'issues' understood enough now to get a check list or something? I rarely have a need for show sharing, but it'd be a good thing to spend some time to at least get it set up.
Thanks

Sorry..... there are no real instructions on PPV, as such. Ryan came up with "PPV Magic" or something like that a couple of builds back. In order to set up for PPV (remember, Dish and DTV only), you simply have to go into your WiRNS configuration/PPV and select your PPV driver and matching provider and you're all set. I believe, for now, you must use the Eastern timezone.
There is nothing more to it..... other than to select the PPV channels in your DD provider setup.
Enjoy.

The latest build does an automatic Poopli update. That part should be pretty easy.
Are you referring to a how-to on setting up for different types of routers and network configurations? I am definitely not the guy for that. Give me a push off the curb on what you want and I'll try to do it. Lord knows, I've experienced every problem out there. :)

I figure I'll restart using the RTV for show transfers, at least verify that I can. I used to be able, with Wirns, but recently, the old no connect thing was back. I'm ok twiggleing my router, (just the one port to forward to the RTV as far as I know), and likely just need a willing person to try some sends, receives back and forth to get it ironed out. I have a 4500 series, so I'll need someone with one of those to play with. I'm at work now, but will start devoting some afternoon/evening time to the effort.
Thanks, as always,

The latest build is a no-brainer for this stuff. I'll be around today if you need me.
For Linksys routers, follow j.m.'s suggestion of port forwarding 29000 to 29000, select TCP put in the ip address of the RTV unit and enable. If you have more units, use 29001, 29002, etc.
Let me know if I can help.

Wayne, check your PM.
The IVSProvider plugin doesn't seem to be working for me. I can't send from one Replay to another. I'm running WiRNS as a service and WiRNSMon.
Hm, "About" says I'm running "CLR 1.1.4322.573", but I know I installed at least 1.2.2 or higher.
My IVSProvider.conf file is properly formatted with the info from both my Replays, but my IVSProvider.cache file has not been updated since 12/4/04, even though I send shows all the time.
Anyway, where should I start troubleshooting? I'm not even sure.

Is your guide updating properly? Have you had a DNS ip change from your ISP? Is there a backup of the .cache file that is actually newer (stranger things have happened)?
You may want to consider upgrading to 1.2.9, IAC. Many more toys for a power user like you. It will give you a look at the new "downloading" capabilities of WiRNS, too.

I don't use the guide data, I just use it for IVSProvider, NoSoftwareUpdate, and GetShellCommands.
My WAN IP has not changed.
There is no .cache file since I installed 1.2.9, even though I have sends going now, and the IP addresses for the sends should be cacheing(?) now, I believe.

Yes, sends and receives work fine. I've tried sending directly from one Replay to the other, and then the same thing using the Updater, and they both fail. I'm using j.m.'s download (http://jm-rtv.zapto.org/) of IVSProvider.

Max,
It looks like it's not seeing the entries in the IVSPrivider.conf file. Look at my log.
Notice that four of the entries at [2005-01-13 17:13:21] relate to reading the IVSProvider conf and cache files. I do not see them in your log.
Did you create a IVSProvider.conf file in the WiRNS root directory?

Thanks LonetreeJim, I think we've narrowed it down. But I do have the file, and since I can use the WiRNSmon context menu to bring it up, I'm assuming that WiRNS should be using it. But you're right, it's not even loading it.
I'll see if I can figure out anything else. Could the micro_dns.dll file that j.m. provides not be compatible with the newer updates of WiRNS?

Max,
Since you're using j.m.'s version, you must add the following line to your wirns.hosts file (exactly as it appears here):
rddns-production.replaytv.net=

The intent was not to annoy anybody. I posted it in two forums so that more people could view it and send me a short clip. Inconvinience of any sort is regretted.
NEways, the IVS is still not working for me. When I connect my RTV directly to the cable modem it works but not thru the router. I even reset the router to the default setting and configured the router again for port no. 29000. Still no luck.
Does this IVS thing have anything to do with the WiRNS at all except for the direct IVS xfer (peer to peer) when the IVS server is down using the IVSProvider.conf settings ?
Hey.. regarding your IVSProvider.conf file loading.. Hope you have removed the extra ".sample" from the end of the file. The actual name as it comes with WiRNS is IVSProvider.conf.sample and you've to rename if to "IVSProvider.conf" using DOS prompt. Just a thought.

The Poopli Updater still won't let me loopback to send from one Replay to another, but from the looks of the logfile above, I'll bet sending directly from one Replay to another might work. I'll have to wait until I get home to try that, though. But it's still not showing me those messages about loading IVSProvider.conf. Very strange.
Do I still need to use j.m.'s micro_dns? Or is yours now compatible with IVSProvider?

Lonetreejim:
YOU DA REAL MAN!!!!!
I'm up and running. No more trips to the inlaws for RTV/WiRNS stuff.
Now if I can just figure out how to set up a remote server for birthdays, weddings, etc. I'd be set. ;)
I followed your advice and here is what I did (a bit of tweaking by Ryan):
To Set Up Your WiRNS Server as a Remote Server to Other RTV's
- Port Forwarding :
Application From To TCP UDP IP Address Enab
HTTP 80 80 Yes Yes wir.ns.i.p Yes
DNS 53 53 Yes wir.ns.i.p Yes
NTP 123 123 Yes wir.ns.i.p Yes
- Go to DYNdns (http://www.dyndns.org/) and set up a Static Account (http://www.dyndns.org/services/statdns/) for your WiRNS server using your Public IP Address (http://whatismyip.com/) and one for the remote client (in this case, my inlaws) using their public ip address.
- Download DynDNS (http://www.kana.homeip.net/downcount.php?file=DynDNS&site=main) and install it on your WiRNS computer.
-open wirns.hosts in Notepad and add one line:
client.gotdns.com=yourwirnscomputer.gotdns.com
The above is just an example and will depend on what you choose as your dyndns server name. I got mine with "gotdns.com" for ease of remembering.
That is it. I don't think that I forgot anything.
Easy for us. Thanks to LonetreeJim, his daughter, Ryan, j.m. and all of the others who provided input to Jim's question over the past few months.

Max:
Just a thought. Did you take a WinXP update in the last day or two? If so, did it automatically turn on the firewall?
I turn mine off ( on all XP machines on my LAN). I can't figure out how to port forward port 80 without screwing something up.
Regards,
Wayne
Hey Wayne. There have been some recent updates, but I checked, and the firewall is off. I sent j.m. a pm, because it seems to be a problem with the plugin loading the cache and conf files. There may be more to it, but that's where I've narrowed it down to with my limited expertise. ;)
I just wanted to note that when I clean installed 1.2.9 (after deleting the WiRNS registry key) the installer did not create the HKLM\software\WiRNS key or the HKLM\software\WiRNS\config key.
Thanks.
Sean
My apologies to Ryan ... I must confess why I did not have a Channel Guide or ToDo List in WiRNS: I did not set up the "Lineup 1 (Offset 0):". I saw it there when I added my ReplayTVs but it never occurred to me that I needed to do anything with the lineup offset settings.
Now that I selected my zap2it lineup for each ReplayTV, I've got the Channel Guide and ToDo List (already had Replay Guide) and all is well.

I just grabbed 1.2.9 to see if it would fix this problem but it is still around. I get the following when I try to update the todo info for my 5040:
[2005-01-15 11:00:13] Building ToDo List for: Living Room
[2005-01-15 11:00:13] Updating Database with ReplayGuide for: Living Room
[2005-01-15 11:00:13] WiRNSService.BuildToDo(): Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at WiRNS.WiRNSService.BuildToDo()
Any ideas?
I'm not sure if this is a related problem, but no matter what I do my replay doesn't seem to download all of the guide data from wirns. I tried deleting the guide data from the replay, grabbing 14 days worth of data in wirns, then doing a net connect and after all that is done it still only seems to grab until around 5PM tomorrow.
Thanks for all your hard work. WiRNS is truly great!

This problem generally occurs when you run WiRNS as a service and you try to update the guide using the iexplorer method. I too get the same error message, but after this update, RESTART WiRNS and then check your guide and it would've been built OK but the ToDo and Guide might not build properly. Make sure you have defined the ReplayTVs and the PPV settings using the iexplorer. Here are the stepsto follow..
1. Check your local clock and update the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WIRNS\CONFIGURATION\GuideTimer value to be say approx 5 mins from the current time. The time is military time.
2. Shutdown WiRNS and now start it as an APPLICATION.
Open command prompt and type
C:\wirns\startwirn
Now it's gonna show you the regular script/text scrolling down regarding the loading of each plugin and at the end it shows you the message saying waiting for the request. Check in all this WiRNS log that was just generated, there'll be an entry something like "Next Guid Update Time : <same as time you set in the registry>. As soon as the clock of your computer hits the above mentioned registry settings, the guide update process will start. Now this time the guide, todo and Replay Guide will be made properly. You can shutdown wirns app and restart it as a service and now use the internet explorer to see if your guide, todo and replay guide were made properly. I'm sure it would've been done so.

Thanks for the assistance, everyone, I'm finally back in business! Apparently there were two problems, which I'll post here in case anyone else runs into them later:
First, I was running the IVSProvider plugin from j.m.'s site, which apparently is no longer compatible with newer versions of WiRNS, because when I used this version, IVSProvider.cache and IVSProvider.conf would not load, no matter what:
[2005-01-13 22:26:47] Plugin: IVSProvider.dll (1.0.1739.29367) loaded.
When I used the one included with WiRNS 1.2.9, it worked fine:
[2005-01-15 22:21:40] Plugin: IVSProvider.dll (1.1.1838.27882) loaded.
[2005-01-15 22:21:40] [PLUGIN] IVSProvider loading permanent entries from C:\WiRNS\IVSProvider.conf
[2005-01-15 22:21:40] [PLUGIN] IVSProvider added 2 entries from C:\WiRNS\IVSProvider.conf.
[2005-01-15 22:21:40] [PLUGIN] IVSProvider loading cached entries from C:\WiRNS\IVSProvider.cache
[2005-01-15 22:21:40] [PLUGIN] IVSProvider added 0 entries from C:\WiRNS\IVSProvider.cache.
But then I still couldn't loop back, and the logfile kept telling me it couldn't update any IVS numbers via RDDNS. That was because I didn't have IVSProvider.hosts set up, and that was because the original version of IVSProvider never used a .hosts file.
Once I fixed that, I was set:
[2005-01-15 22:22:01] [PLUGIN] IVSProvider returned custom information for ISN 00004-54831-98710

Can you please post the entries of your ivsprovider.COMF and ivsprovider.HOSTS file. Please do also mention which one is WiRNS IP address and which ones are ReplayTV IP Addresses.
I was wondering if there was a way to check the loopback facility even if I do not have 2 replaytvs. Any idea ?
Also, are you by anychance using wirns.hosts file ?

Dreamer found that if you used the plugin from j.m.'s site (before I integreated it), the cache & hosts were in the windows\system32 directory when ran as a service. If you ran WiRNS in app mode, everything was fine.
Also, the micro_dns.dll is no longer used. DNS is part of WiRNS too. :)

I guess I spoke too soon. I'm definitely getting somewhere, though. And yes, this was definitely after Replay's servers were back up.
What are the IVSProvider.hosts and WiRNS.hosts supposed to do, and where should they be? I know the WiRNS.hosts is a list of what should be proxied to your WiRNSIP, but right now, I have both .hosts files listing everything I can think of:
rddns-production.replaytv.net=
rddns-production.replaytv-1.net=
rddns-production.replaytv-2.net=
rddns-production.replaytv-backup.net=

I know that most people in this thread depend on WiRNS for all their guide information, so I know IVSProvider is not a big concern for most of you. I probably should have started another thread about my WiRNS issues, but in case anyone is reading this thread because they have similar issues with IVSProvider, I was unable to resolve them without reverting to WiRNS 1.1.2 and IVSProvider 1.02. It works fine now, so if you are using WiRNS just for IVSProvider, GetShellCommands, and/or NoSoftwareUpdate, you can safely stay with an older version.
But no disrespect to Ryan's work, I'm in awe of what you're doing with WiRNS. Thank you for working so hard on this, and for keeping Wayne recording Canadian content to share with us on Poopli! :)
Ryan, neither the installer nor the application is creating the the "config" key and its subkeys.
Note, I have only ran the custom install. I have to create these keys BEFORE I can launch the app.
Am I not waiting long enough?

As described here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=495241), jorgejun's problems uncovered a *stupid* bug in my DNS server code, which rbolen uses in his WiRNS. Funny thing is that apparently the fragmented packet is ignored by some servers, so the broken code works in some cases.
// Proxy the request to the real DNS
// Current (BROKEN) code is below.
// soRealDNS.Send(received, received.Length, SocketFlags.None);
// Correct code should be

It can take up to 3 minutes before the server starts (size of db, processor and other pc considerations.).
Try running the app only (make sure the service is stopped) and just let it sit for a while and see what happens.

What the heck, now that I know I can get loopback back by reverting to 1.1.2, I'll test out the next version that incorporates that fix. But try explaining to a two year old that she can't watch her show RIGHT NOW because Daddy ripped it to the other Replay, the CPU on the remote unit is too busy to respond over the network, and the DVD is downstairs. :)

Installed 1.3.0RC1 and ended up with some double entries in the ToDo list. Rebuilt Guide/ToDo list, no change, stopped WiRNS, deleted wirns.db, started WiRNS and set it up again. Still getting double entries in the ToDo list: 235 Jack & Bobby 9:00 PM Wed January 26
235 Jack & Bobby 9:00 PM Wed January 26 That one's showing in red, but other entries in the list are doubled, too. They were only listed once in the previous version.

Seems to work, but I can see a difference in my nslookup test. To troubleshoot the dns problem, I would load nslookup, change the server to my WiRNS IP, and do a lookup of rddns-production.replaytv.net. If it was working, the real IP of rddns-production.replaytv.net would be returned.
Now, nslookup returns the WiRNS IP instead. I'd expect this if I were running IVS provider, but I'm not. Is this as expected?
nslookup output:

That is one of the primary purposes of WiRNS. It hijacks requests to the DNNA server and routes it to your WiRNS server. So, yes, this is what you can expect.
Of course, activation verification, etc. is still done through the DNNA servers.

Wayne,
From my recent discussions with j.m and sfhub, I believe WiRNS is not supposed to proxy for rddns-production.replaytv.net. In older versions, it definitely did not. I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing that WiRNS should proxy for rddns-productin.replaytv.net when IVSProvider is loaded.
I am finding that with v1.3 my 5504's with IVS are getting flaky. I believe it's because they can't get to rddns-production.replaytv.net. I see a lot of log entries where WiRNS is returning 172.16.0.9 (WiRNS IP) to the 5504's when they are looking for rddns-production.replaytv.net. I recently learned that it is normal for them to get flaky when they can't contact rddns-production.replaytv.net.
I enabled IVSProvider and the 5504's started behaving normally. Perhaps the fix for Max's IVSProvider problem caused WiRNS to proxy for rddns-production.replaytv.net whether or not IVSProvider is loaded?

Returning the WIRNS IP for rddns-production.replaytv.net when IVS
provider is not running is seemingly a more complex change than the
DNS fix j.m. posted above which fixed a buffer length miscode but
didn't appear to modify the logic.
Yeah, it should only return WiRNS IP for rddns-production.replaytv.net when IVSProvider is active. Rbolen70 must have inadvertently changed that behavior when fixing something in IVSProvider.
BTW, rbolen70, what did you find in IVSProvider that needed to be fixed?

'twasn't ivsprovider.. 'twas from within.. :)
Yeah. .something I did.. I'll have it check for ivsprovider being active before release...
Yeah, looks great, Ryan!
Thanks for your hard work!!!!!
Sean
Some input.. I loaded the IVSProvider and now there's some http:// URL code that comes into play. I think this is what probably jorgejun, sfhub and j.m were discussing in the "5504 Not Updating RDDNS servers" post. So I've now removed the loading of IVSProvider as I only have just one replay box and it's of no use to me till until I wanna get the shows directly from somebody who's already in my address book.
One quick clarification.. Since RTV's IP settings have the WiRNS IP defined in both the DNS entries, does the WiRNS server need to be up and running for accepting the shows. I know that it's required for downloading the guide data and Netconnecting but was wondering what's gonna happen and what route will the data take if my WiRNS server is down and I'm downloading a show.

sudhs

I love the installer. It was simple to remove rc1 and add rc2. Then just as easy to add IVSProvider.
Without IVSProvider, rddns-production.replaytv.net resolved to it's real IP. With IVSProvider, I got the WiRNS IP. Cool.
My thanks to sfhub and j.m. for the troubleshooting help, and to rbolen70 for the quick fix in WiRNS.
Lost Dish PPV again after doing a completely clean install of 1.3.2 rc2! I chose Central as the timezone.

A 'hole' in the todo is that it doesn't appear to 'see' manual recordings. Maybe not possible?
On the latest build,
I ran into some issues that have caused me to back up one version. On the sending data to Poppli step, the system appeard to hang, and wouldn't go past that step. Also, if I tried to reset that poopli config, exception errors were noted. BTW, I was running from the command line, not as a service.
I'm really sorry, but I don't have the log of that series of events.

Do you have the messages/logs? Did you either delete the database or remove & re-add the replayguide table?
Is there anything special I need for Dish PPV with this version?
I've reinstalled a couple of times and tried different timezones, but I still get nothing. I added the reg keys posted 1-5-05, but that didn't help either.

Good question.. Well I uninstalled WiRNS, deleted the database totally, reinstalled WiRNS and then performed an update. It generated a whole lot of exception. Without giving it much consideration I tried it again and still the same thing. So I left it as it was pretty last in the night and today I deleted everything i.e database, log, some locked up journal file etc. and updated the guide using WiRNS running as application. All went fine. No excpetions.. but it has generated duplicate entries in in the ToDo list and my Replay Guide is all ehese empty. Hope this helps you.
Hey Rya.. thanks for considering small factors too. I think most of think all these exceptions are generarted ONLY when WiRNS runs as a service and I check the logs using the inet browser. Whenever I've run it as an application, it runs pretty good.. except for this time when it has generated dup ToDo and no reply guide.

The latest release is doing very well. The only glitch I've been able to find is when the Poopli check box in the config is changed. That generates an error both using Wirns IP and the 127.... Page.

after a couple of weeks of getting WiRNS working, I'm back to reconfiguring. I should have just stayed with the version that was working but the temptation to try a newer version was too great.
for the non-network literate:
1. should WiRNS DNS server IP be the gateway on my PC, ie what is shown when typig c:\ipconfig or should it be something different?
2. On the replaytv network config screen, should the gateway be the same number as what is on the PC?
3. On the linksys router screen, there is a status tab which shows "default gateway" which is a different number from the gateway displayed in ipconfig Which one should be used for WiRNS?
TIA

Assuming you have a router that forwards DNS requests (almost all do), then yes you can use the IP of your router (gateway) for WiRNS DNS.
2. On the replaytv network config screen, should the gateway be the same number as what is on the PC?
Yes, it should be the IP of your Linksys router (e.g. 192.168.1.1).

The IP of your Linksys router (i.e. the one in ipconfig).

Sean... I double-checked the web site for any changes and nuttin'. Try using the default of Eastern timezone & let me know how that goes.
Remember, when changing lineups on the replay, change the zip code & back. Sometimes, I've had to 243-zones & clear the channel guide for it to work.

I upgraded (deleting my database).
Wirns found all of my replay TV's, and my Zap2it data.
But it can't get a replay guide from any of the replay tv units. My log says:

in the replaytv setup menu, under network and input settings, input 1, satellite box, there are choices for DISH, DirecTV and WiRNS.
Thus far with 1.3.0 RC4:
Selecting DISH as the sat provider results in a complete EPG except there is no PPV guide data
Selecting WiRNS results in an EPG (with correct data) of only the PPV channels. the regular channels don't even show up in the guide.
Is there a third choice which combines the above? ;)

Selecting WiRNS results in an EPG (with correct data) of only the PPV channels. the regular channels don't even show up in the guide.
Is there a third choice which combines the above? ;)
That is exactly what I'm seeing....
Arrgh.
John
If you have only PPV data, try removing the PPV driver and do a guide update. If that gets your regular listings back, then you might try adding the PPV driver back.
I was playing around with channel remapping yesterday and somehow ended up with only PPV data in the guide. I uninstalled RC4, deleted the WiRNS registry key and then installed 1.3.0 RC3. Then I installed RC4 and all is well. I did not try the steps above first, so it might work and might not.
On the replaytv setup menu, for sat provider do you select WiRNS?
I tried your suggestion of deleting the PPV driver. The result was a totally empty EPG, ie no channels
I don't play with the registry too often, is there more than one key that needs to be deleted after unistalling RC4? I'd like to see if I get different results with a prior version.

The only key I've deleted when trying to start from scratch is HKLM/Software/WiRNS. (I think that might be the only registry key that WiRNS uses).

I'm not talking about the guide on the replay - I'm talking about when I look at the wirns guide web-page on my computer.
I see nothing, or nothing but ppv. And wirns keeps giving me an error about 'replay xxx does not seem to have a replay guide' and so forth...
Arrgh.
Bigjohns: I saw the same thing as well with RC4 as well.
l8er: Your suggestion worked. After unistalling RC4, removing the registry entry and installing RC3 the EPG guide data is complete with PPV listings. I will try reinstalling RC4 to see what happens next.

Likely this only impacts a few, but here goes.
I have 2 systems marked as Satellite, 4DTV, and BEV. Both are from Wirns.
On manul records, where I'm using a remapped channel number from Wirns, often lately, the Replay will flip say 4DTV 170 to 1170 (bev). Well that's not good. It's something in the replay (4516) As if I edit a manual record, and it says the proper channel prior to the change, as soon as I edit the channel, it bounces back to the BEV range, 1170 instead of staying where I want it as 170. Any ideas?

Crap.. if you grabbed RC5 before this post, grab it again. I didn't update it with the Guide provider dll without the delays.
if I update RC5 -> RC5 do I need to do anything special other than install?

you'll prolly need to uninstall real quick & then install...
RC5 looking good so far here :)
Downloaded the .zip version of RC5 and unzipped to C:\WiRNS after stopping WiRNS and wirnsmon.exe. (I was running RC4). Started back up fine, added the PPV driver for Dishnetwork and updated the guide. All went well to that point.
Then I did a net connect with my main ReplayTV after WiRNS finished downloading the guide. After the net connect the Channel Guide had channel numbers but no guide data at all. The Channel Guide within WiRNS looked fine. So went to ReplayTV number 2 and did a net connect. Connected fine but when it was done there were channel numbers but no guide data. Went back to number 1 ReplayTV and cleared the channel guide. After rebooting did a net connect, still no guide data.
I checked the WiRNS log from time and there were no errors at all being logged.
Currently I have uninstalled RC5, deleted the registry key, deleted wirns.db and then reinstalled RC5 and did not install the PPV driver. It's updating the guide currently. If this doesn't work, I guess I'll try RC4 again.
Update - it didn't work, and rather than go back to RC4 with the broken log viewing in notepad, I'm going back to RC3. All 3 of my ReplayTVs now have updated guide info after going back to RC3. Since the log never showed any errors under RC5, any ideas?
l8er did you happen to advance the EPG to the next day to see if the current day was blank? I say this as I had this happen with RC5 on my first net connect.

Got WiRNS running fine under RC3, uninstalled and then installed RC5 without deleting wirns.db. Looked like everything went fine. Did a net connect from ReplayTV #1 - guide looks OK today, but starting at 6 PM tomorrow the guide is empty. Then starting at 6 PM Sunday there is guide data until Monday at 6 PM. Then starting Tuesday at 6 PM, there's no guide data until Thursday at 6 PM.
It appears there is something not quite right about RC5.
Completely uninstalled WiRNS, deleted the registry key, deleted wirns.db and all the .xml and other files specific to my ReplayTVs. Then installed RC4. Looked fine, no log errors, updated guide. After it finished I net connected from ReplayTV #1. After the net connect when I pressed Channel Guide - it told me there was no provider information available. Double checked set up, reselected WiRNS as the provider, saved, and net connected. Same error.
So now I've uninstalled RC4, deleted wirns.db and all the ReplayTV specific files and am installing RC3.

I too had to roll back to RC3. Both RC4 and 5 errored out when I tried to edit the channel lineups during install. I could delete the Replay machine WiRNS automatically found and add it back in manually but it would never give a me a Program Guide for it (page not found message). To-Do and Guide Server worked OK.
I started the RC5 install with WiRNS completely uninstalled and the target directory empty plus I deleted the registry entry.
I'll hang at RC3 until I see if any solutions come up.

That should be fixed in RC6. There was a database lockup issue.
Strange...I have RC5 working just fine. I had to manually add my replays, then guide update, then ppv, then guide update. I was running from the command line during setup like I always do.
Ryan, about the guide data....have you noticed that accented letters, like "á" are showing up as question marks in the guide.
Thanks,

I noticed that when the application discovered my Replay named "Living Room", it named it "Living Ro..." when I went in to edit it. I just deleted my Replays and added them manually.
Could this be causing a problem?

1.3.0 RC7 Posted
I believe all that's left is the issue with some shows not showing up in the todo list, then we can work on requests.
**** You must delete your database for RC2 and higher ****
There's also a new LoginAuthLogout.zip that remmer helped out on...
We're gettin' there.. :) Thank to all who help test...
Go to http://wirns.zapto.org and go to "Just lemme download" near the bottom.
**** If you use the DTV PPV or Sports listings, please visit http://www.geocities.com/paglierani and donate.
** YOU WILL HAVE TO DELETE YOUR WIRNS.DB FILE IF YOU'RE RUNNING < 1.2.7 : follow instructions during install.txt.
1.3.0.7

Ryan,
Thanks for the continued refinement of WiRNS. I know there are many who appreciate your expertize.
I installed RC7 from scratch (uninstalled RC6, deleted WiRNS registry key) and am still having some problems.
1. Since RC4 the replaytv machine found during the installation cannot be edited (to change the channel line-ups). I can delete it and recreate it with the correct channel line-ups but not edit it. WiRNS crashes to a page not found error.
2. The registry key for the download subdirectory is not created at install time so the first time it's changed WiRNS fails. It too crashes to a page not found error. Subsequent changes are fine.
3. I still get a page not found error any time I try to load the channel guide page. The Guide Server and To-do pages are fine.
Thanks,
Jim
A'right guys.. Don't know how many people out here follow fatwallet but just yesterday Staples was giving out WRT54G at $19.99 and any card i,e Desktop, Laptop OR USB adapter (All Gs 54MBPS) at $9.99 'oz these were replacement items for a Bekin that a MIR but was OOS at most stores whereas the Linksys were available. SO I bought 2 of those routers and 7 cards for mere $83.00 Then went to CompUSA and got 2 routers and 3 cards exchanged for the 2 Buffalo Router and Repeater kit i.e $129.99 each model WRBG54K which is supposed to be a RTV friendly one and also has an extra repater/bridge that comes with it. Since it's a brand new piece of equipment for me so I've to kinda test some functionality for it. Will let you know how it performs.
I've to download the latest WiRNS too and check out the update. Hope my IVS problem now withers away.
Thus far with RC7
1. Under Configuration, WiRNS, Replays, DataDirect and PPV all function properly
2. Under Administration everything appears to function properly.
3. Under Tools Channel Guide, ToDo and Replay Guide all function however when you click on the name of a recorded show under the ReplayGuide list, it displays as 0MB and cannot be downloaded to PC.
Lastly, while the Channel Guide in WiRNS is fully populated with guide data downloaded from zap2it data, last nite the RTV 5000 EPG was showing "No information available" for all channels. This is confusing as clearly WiRNS obtained all the guide data however for some reason it wasn't getting transferred from the PC -> RTV during a scheduled or manual connect to ReplayTV service. It went thru the connect process, updating , checking new channels, getting channel guide, etc. and appears to be getting the data however the EPG data clearly wasn't getting transferred.
At the time of writing this message, I did a manual connect this morning and for some reason the EPG guide data is now showing up. Maybe my RTV needed some sleep.
