New update!!!

I know, I know.. A lot of updates. :)

I'm gonna take a rest for a while now unless something comes up.

Win9x/ME/NT/2K/XP:
http://www.users.qwest.net/~bolenbaughryan2/WiRNS.1.2.0.WinAll.msi

IMPORTANT!!! Do NOT Upgrade if you're running a version older than 1.1.2.14760. Too many changes to the database, configuration and application.

Make a backup of your current database and shellcmds if you'd like, and then remove or install to a different directory.

**** If you use the DTV PPV listings, please visit http://www.geocities.com/paglierani and donate.

*** YOU MUST run "wirns.exe -convert" immediately after install if you are running 1.1.5.20152 or older. Otherwise, you'll need to enter IP & DD info again. Replays and other info will not be affected.

Changes since 1.1.2b:

- Added NTP Client since the NTP proxy shuts down the Windows Time service
- Headend Remapper. A sample remapchan.csv.sample file is included which is already setup for 4DTV. Be sure to rename to remapchan.csv.
- Repeat Flag fixed
- Repeat, TV Rating, mpaaRating, year and Stars to Online Channel Guide
- Moved configuration to Registry - run "wirns.exe -convert" to import config settings (IP & DD info for now).
- run "wirns.exe -config" for configuration GUI.
- Added support for DirecTV PPV Listings - Select channels PPV100 - PPV 200 on your Zap2it lineup to trigger. This takes quite a while. Go get some coffee or beer.
- Set your own NTP server IP - registry setting at HKLM\SOFTWARE\WiRNS\configuration\ntpip
- Added the ability to view wirns.log under "Administration" on the web page.
- View wirns.log via WiRNSmon.exe
- Added configuration GUI if WiRNS is not yet configured and you will NOT need to restart. The new config will be loaded immediately. If you mess this up, you can still configure via http://127.0.0.1:8923 and will have to restart WiRNS.
- Added "Edit shellcmds" on the systray menu - WiRNSMon
- Added system tray service monitor/controller for WinNT/2K/XP - WiRNSMon.
- Added threaded Windows service for fast startup and background operation.
- Vacuuming the database runs prior to a guide update.
- Added Last Guide update time on Guideserver page.
- Fixed Dish PPV
- Clear channel lineup prior to guide updates for Zap2it channel changes - no deleting wirns.db for channel changes anymore
- Select number of days to update the Channel Guide

Other changes, see changelog.txt.

Also, be sure to checkout readme.txt & INSTALL.TXT.

Thanks! Much appreciated...

If you've downloaded it before this post.. do it again. a problem with the config server mysteriously appeared but is now fixed. same d/l file as above.

Sorry.. :)

Couldn't help but to add the DirecTV Sports listings. Just pick any channel(s) from 700 - 799 on Zap2it.

This is NOT needed.. only if you want to "replay" your sports programs.

*** If you use this, please visit http://www.geocities.com/paglierani and donate..

Lemme know how it works cuz I don't have the pay-per-sports/Season pass thingy.

Hi.

I had this running yesterday:
WiRNS v1.1.4 build 17378 - (c) 2004 kjac

I upgraded today to:
WiRNS v1.2.0 build 24845 - (c) 2004 kjac

I ran the wirns.exe -convert as indicated. But it hangs now after refreshing guide for my third RTV. The service monitor shows green, but no further progress is logged.

Please help?

This update will check if you actually have a DTV lineup before loading DTV PPV & Sports.

Apologies to non-DTV users..

In my zap2it account I have a lineup for zipcode xxxx1 which is all my analog channels.....I also have a second lineup for zipcode xxxx2 which I have only selected the digital channels for my T151....I want to put the first lineup at offset 0 and the second at offset 1000.....why does wirns keep combining them into one "Local Broadcast Listing" or is it zap2it doing it????

WiRNS combines the lineups. See post after this one and use the channel remapper...

SOmething is wrong here. I did the update, and now my replay won't load the 4DTV data at all. Even if that's the only provider. Bev, and OTA load, but not the 4DTV. Just to chck, below is a few lines form my remapper file.

#IMPORTANT - the ReplayTV will automatically remap channels in the 8000-9000 range and may with others as well.,,,
#FORMAT old_channel,,,
#All 4 fields required for accurate remapping.,,,
#new_callsign can remain the same as old_callsign if you're sure there will be no other channel with that callsign.,,,

Ok.. it's gonna be trickier than I thought.. Use this with your current file, but it'll only use the channels (for now)

The file date and sizes are the same as the previous files. Wrong Zip?

Deleted the DB, redownloaded the data. the 4DTV still doesn't appear.

Thanks for all the effort. It's really nice to have the 4DTV guide!

That last allowed me to load the guide.
Thanks

It IS a good idea to allow the channel rename. I can think that that would be really handy for wildfeeds and the like. To have the Replay keep a channel active, it requires guide data to come in every, or nearly every update. That's difficult to maintain for placeholder channels, used to occasional, unscheduled video, that is the way of recurring and wildfeeds.

For me, what I intend, is to map a bunch of channels on the zap2it side just to provide placehoders. Then I'd rename/renumber them on the Wirns side to provide slots for the wildfeed locations. If I could just build a table of locations, and repeat a generic program description, I wouldn't need the zap2it channels. But I don't want to get greedy, this is a great service and I'm not trying for programer burnout. :)

I think I have given up on getting wirns to work with my replay...I'm sure I'm doing something stupid but I can't figure it out. I setup labs.zap2it.com with my local listings...I setup wirns and my replay...told it "local broadcast listings" at offset 0....changed the reply to use dns1 as the ip of the pc running wirns...I can see in the log that wirns is getting called however everytime I use wirns it gets a network error when getting channel information (84040005 or something like that)....connecting without wirns works ok.

I've had same results with 1.1.7 - 1.2.1

A couple of things to check. is the WiRNS IP on the primary IP of your NIC? If you're running xp sp2, have you checked the firewall settings? Do you have another firewall?

My router is on 192.168.1.1
My replay is at 192.168.1.15
My pc is at 192.168.1.3

I run kerio personal firewall on the pc which is xp sp2...the windows firewall is disabled.....I said yes to the popup's requesting access from the replay to the pc....the log shows the nosoftwareupdate plugin is being "loaded" and the "hijacking frontend request because we serve it locally" message...I can click on the channel guide in wirns and see the channels...and on the replay I've tried changing just the dns and changing both the dns AND the gateway to be 192.168.1.3....then saved that change..then went back in and changed the zip to force it to reload. Everytime I get the network error I mentioned. I thought it might be because the isp I'm using has certain ports blocked but I tried another that doesnt and the same error occured. (my router makes a dial up connection but shares it via nat)

The fancy-robust, etc.. Headend channel remapper is fixed.

Accurate based on the origional Zap2it channel AND callsign...

All 4 fields are required, but the old & new callsigns do not have to be different.

Sample:
#IMPORTANT - the ReplayTV will automatically remap channels in the 8000-9000 range and may with others as well.
#FORMAT old_channel,old_callsign,new_channel,new_callsign

Ok... Can you disable Kerio and test? If you're nat'ing back to your PC, you shouldn't need the firewall.

Make sure you have these settings:

Replay:
IP 192.168.1.15
Subnet Mask <whatever you have it at>
Gateway 192.168.1.1 <shouldn't matter since the PC will proxy requests>
DNS1 & DNS2 192.168.1.3

PC
IP 192.168.1.3
WiRNSIP 192.168.1.3 <Must be primary IP on NIC>
Subnet Mask <whatever you have it at>
Gateway 192.168.1.1
DNS1 & DNS2 <set by ISP>

IT'S J.M.'S FAULT!!!

He forwarded me his DNS proxy code... So, I couldn't help it.. :)

Here it is... No more need for micro_dns.dll and the DNS proxy will bind to any IP that is configured for your wirns IP (hopefully valid, of course).

Please test & lemme know what you think...

<edit>
nevermind.. it should work with ivsproxy

OoooKay. I may need a few more words to understand what I would do to test this. Am I looking for something different? Or is it an internal code thingee that I won't see, but is reall hot darn cool?

yup.. it's internal... and it won't load micro_dns.dll.

I loaded on one of my pc's with several IP's & set the wirns IP to the secondary, then ran nslookups from another & worked fine.

Necessary, no. Fun, YES!

rbolen70....

First, I want to say its great to see you expanding on the great work kjac has done!!!

Second, I loaded up the newest vers. of WiRNS and it seemed to be working ok but then I checked my guide data and I had a lot of "no info avail" for some channels. Also, I noticed the channelguideprovider.dll was not loading on boot up. So to troubleshoot I uninstalled and reinstalled an older vers. (the last one kjac released) and everything works fine. I was just wondering where I might be encountering the problem.

Oh btw, I've been running WiRNS now for several months without problem if thats any help.

Anyway, as I said I think its great what you are doing. Keep up the good work.

Thanks! Because of the channel mapping, etc... There will be some "blank spots" in the guide data if you didn't start over with a new lineup. (deleting wirns.db).. This should go away after a little while... or if you delete the databse.

Ryan:

Is the installer download on page 1 of this thread the latest and greatest? I did find one later executable which I swapped out. Maybe that is my problem.

I have gone through 3-4 installs and have had the same results each time. I am running WinXP Pro. Static IP is set for WiRNS and for each of my RTV's. All settings are verified and seem to be correct.

1... The Dishnetwork PPV listings don't show (No Information Available). I think that my configuration entry is good. I have inserted "Dish Network" and "DishNetwork" at various times, thinking that it may be text related. My timezone is Eastern. Are these entries case-sensitive or gramattically sensitive?

2... After a seemingly good install, I left WiRNS running for about 24hrs. I did a system reboot after that. The WiRNS monitor and service started automatically. All seemed well. However, the channelguideprovider.dll plugin did not load. All functions seemed to work as they should. I'm wondering if this was a false error message.

I appreciate the work which you and kjac have done on my behalf.

Regards,

Wayne

Wayne. The best thing to do would be to export the replays & linups, delete the database & then import them and run the guide update.

As far as editing.. Just export and edit the file and then import. If you're changing IP's on multiple units, this would be a lot quicker.

The two files are wirns.lineups & wirns.replays and are in the WiRNS directory. I decided on the files so that the info can be backed up and edited and imported easily.

kjac, Ryan and j.m. :

Homerun!!!! From humble beginnings, it's come a long way. Good on you!!!

Still don't see my DishNetwork PPV. No biggie. I do see the DirectTV PPV listings (thanks, Pags).

I have tried IVS for the first time ever and it is working (albeit, slow). I have been downloading a 1 hour show (Medium 1600MB) from MaxH since last night at 7pm and at 9:30am, it is now just 25% finished. I have a 4MB/sec connection speed which I just tested. Is this IVS speed normal?

Thanks, again for this.

IVS is dependent more on the available upstream from the sender (in your case MAXH) than your download speed.

Make sure that you are not trying to run a second instance of WiRNS when the "service" is running in the background.

If you are not running 1.2.2, I suggest you upgrade to it. Follow install instructions (all of the guide updates and server restart).

BardoBill:

kjac and Ryan can better respond to residency. However, there is always a concern when you delete an application instead of using the uninstall feature (which these latest revisions have had). There are now probably some issues with your registry. I would do an uninstall of the current version and then re-install. Make sure that all install procedures are followed. My guess is that your WiRNSip and DataDirect info are going to be automatically there (registry). After you have restarted the server for the last time in the install, verify that you have but one version of WiRNS running (processes.... WiRNS.exe). Do a reboot of your computer and you should be good to go.

Oh yeah..... did you delete the entire c:\wirns directory. I would.

Yes, I have a 256Kbps UPLOAD speed. I'm also sending to people other than you, although I'm stalling three more requests now so it doesn't slow down too much. You said you have a 4Mbps download speed, but what's YOUR upload speed? ;)

(Careful, if it's high, you may be inundated with requests from fellow Poopliers.)

This reminds me of a new thread I've been meaning to start...

Open it up in notepad and set it up as you need to. Pretty much self-explanatory (there is an example set up in the file). I just removed the "#" in front of "host.company.com=" which default to your WiRNSip. Worked for me.

I don't know if this is true.... but ..... dslreports just gave me 795kps as my speed. The download is not what I normally have. We're getting off topic here. Suffice to say.... WiRNS with j.m.'s dns proxy works like a charm. Thanks for the American Dreams.

It's not needed, unless you wanna run a local-only dns server.

format is:

host=192.168.1.1
or
host.company.com=192.168.1.1

If you do not specify the IP after the "=", it'll assign the WiRNS IP to that entry.

slick, aint it?

Not needed, only a toy.. :)

can be used to map name to IP's (not reverse). Kind of like having a central hosts file if you have several computers and get tired of using the IP's or don't want to update the hosts file on each computer.

I still want to keep the above issue alive. I have some new ones.

I have upgraded to 1.2.2.23576. I did this by downloading the zipped file in this thread, unzipping, uninstalling the previous version and then running the installer (which came with version 1.2.2. Before the first launch of 1.2.2.23576, I went into the c:\wirns directory and overwrote the files included with 1.2.2.23576. I then launched WiRNS. I have not been able to get by 4 days of guide updates before the server goes idle. I have installed and uninstalled this version (in this way) 3 times and always got the same results. Am I not doing something? Is there an updated installer? Perhaps that is the issue.

Also, I have never been able to get the PPV to work. When I go into PPV Configuration to add a provider, I have tried to name the provider as it appears in the list of RTV satellite providers.

I have Dishnetwork and Direct TV National as well as Dishnetwork and Direct TV Miami listed as choices.

Then comes the DataDirect choices which WiRNS offers to me. They are listed as follows:

DISH Network (DirecTV)
Direct TV (DirecTV)
Bell Expressvu - Digital Digital (DirecTV)
StarChoice - Digital Digital (DirecTV)

Why are these choices listed like this. Is this, perhaps, why I am having problems? Is anyone else having these issues?

Wayne, The DataDirect listings (the ones that include the (DirecTV) in their names) are the ones you should use if you can to make sure to see the PPV listings. I personally do not have the little dish so cannot help beyond that point.

rbolen70,

I'm curious... is the Sourceforge project dead? http://sourceforge.net/projects/wirns/

You seem to be making releases though forums only. Since the other one still exists (and came up in a google search) you probably do something to avoid confusion.

Wayne,

Have you tried eastern for the dish ppv? for directv.. you need to select channels 100-199. the different displays for channel providers are to differentiate between wirns & replaytv. you may have to remap a few channels, but I've never run into a multi-provider to this extent yet.. :)

I've noticed a few times where the guide would't update for more than a few days, but now it seems to work fine.

Lemme know how it goes...

Ryan:

I want to stay on this Dish Network ppv thing until I get it.

I have configured my PPV Provider as follows (Upper and lower case respected):

Driver: Dish Network

Provider: DISH Network (DirecTV) ... which is the way WiRNS offers it to me as a choice when I add a new provider

TimeZone: eastern

I have the latest version of WiRNS (btw.... very stable...very nice, thanks). All tables including the PPV, ToDo, etc. are created and seem to be without issue. If I delete the database, all are created again. The PPV's get parsed. All seems well. However, when I go to ChannelGuide or on my RTV, the PPV's have no information. The placeholder is there and they are blocked in 2 hour segments.

Is there a way that I can verify what provider and timezone which WiRNS is actually looking for from DataDirect?

Somehow, WiRNS seems to select "DirecTV" as its identifier for all of my providers. eg.

DISH Network (DirecTV)
Direct TV (DirecTV)
Bell Expressvu - Digital Digital (DirecTV)
StarChoice - Digital Digital (DirecTV)

I have a feeling that there is corruption somehow. I just can't figure out where/how. I remember this issue back around 0.7x . kjac did something and it was remedied.

I am using a computer which has had every version of WiRNS since its inception. Could that be the problem? Are there legacy issues which I can get rid of? If so, how?

Thanks for sticking with me on this.

Wayne

1.2.2.Update
WiRNS
1. Fixed DTV if channel not selected, skip that particular program.
2. Added Description to schedule pop-up.
3. Added developer support for mapping hostname/IP to a plugin

This may also fix the channel guide problem that is seen on some installs...

Ryan,

How are you building WiRNS?

I've tried Mono (command-line version) on Windows, but the System C# classes do not support ServiceController (I checked the Mono CVS repository to make sure it hadn't been added to the development version).

I've tried MS Visual Studio .Net 2003, and I can build WiRNS.exe, but I cannot build some of the Plugins. For example, the "ServerManagment" (sic) plugin contains "using WiRNS.Logger" which is implemented/exported from WiRNS.exe. I see in the .prjx file that it contains a reference to the "Project" "WiRNS". But C#.NET does not allow a reference to anything that is not a DLL or OCX.

Hmm...

I give up -- how do you do it?

I still cannot get Dish PPV to work. When updating the guide I get alot of network activity during the "fetching dishnetwork ppv" phase, but when my replay updates it's guide I don't have any info.

Does ANYONE know exactly what PPV info should be entered in Wirns. I have tried "DISH Network" and "DISH Network (DirecTV)" and "Eastern" and "Central" for the timezone.

Could anyone who has Dish PPV info displaying through Wirns post what they have in their PPV configuation?

Thanks,
Sean

With the last update, when I tried WiRNS for guide data, the MPAA rating, star rating, and year info was not on any movies listed. I thought this got fixed at some point?

With the newest update (1.2.3.30515 12/5/2004), I am unable to use WiRNS for guide data, my ReplayTVs stall at "Transferring additional information" and then give an error about not completing the connection. I did delete wirns.db prior to installing 1.2.3.30515 and re-input all info. If I bypass WiRNS for guide data (and just use the essential plugins) all is well.

If I select Channel Guide in the configuration screen, I'm still getting the "Guide is only available on the server" error that I think has been reported here and at Planet Replay.

And is it no longer possible to view wirns.db using sqlite?
Edit: found the answer to the last one at Planet Replay - need sqlite3explorer. Thanks.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you can see, I have 6 RTV's using WiRNS. On the first setup, they all get seen. After a restart, only 5 show up.

I thought that the unhandled exception was cleared up. However, after the 2nd restart (using the service controller "stop"/"start"), I got it again.

The WiRNS providers do show up with "WiRNS" after the name. However, Bell Expressvu is "Bell Expressvu - Digital Digital - (WiRNS). Somehow, that seems to be a bug. I would like other Expressvu users to comment on that.

My WiRNS Direct TV provider does not (now) allow me the choice between "Serial Port" and "IR" (it goes immediately to "IR" codes). If I select Direct TV - National, "Serial Port" is there.

I have changed zipcodes several times. I have had 3-4 server restarts and I still can't complete the setup for Expressvu. It always gives me a network error. The guide data is there for this provider. It never "combines the data". The error is after saying "Combining".

I still don't have Dish Network PPV. Is there anyone else who has Dish Network that is successful in getting the PPV listings into WiRNS?

I like that there is an "Edit" feature in the "Replay Configuration" screen. However, when I tested the feature, it didn't work for me. I was able to change the Replay information but when I clicked on the "Update" button, I was taken to an error screen. I was not able to go back to the configuration screen without a server restart (which is when I got the unhandled exception error).

Sorry to be so long-winded. I am trying to help.

Regards,

Wayne

I did delete wirns.db prior to installing 1.2.3.30515 and re-input all info. If I bypass WiRNS for guide data (and just use the essential plugins) all is well.

I'm having EXACTLY the same problem with 1.2.3. I have deleted and re-created the database and reinstalled WiRNS several times. On the configure Replays screen, if I click 'edit' on a Replay, I notice that the lineup I chose when originally entering my Replay data isn't saved. Is this the cause of the connection problem above? If I select a lineup and click save, WiRNS locks up, i.e., I have to stop and start the service and my lineup isn't saved. Same thing happens if I attempt to delete my PPV driver...which I can't get to work any more anyway.

There appears to be a problem with the guide plugin and the database. I can see my channel guide from the WiRNS server just fine...sans PPV which I can't get to work anyway.

Can someone please tell me what version/build was the last stable one? I was running 1.1.2 and it seemed pretty stable (albeit, without the bells and whistles).

Thanks,

Wayne

I think there is a caching problem with IE. I haven't tried netscape yet. but when something doesn't seem to be there that you know that you've added, hit refresh.
Remember, WiRNS is still Beta and depends on the people using/testing it. Thanks again to the users helping out!!

Thanks, Ryan. Great work! And I think I'm going to keep sticking with this one since it runs quicker. I just wish I understood sql better....

As far as refreshing in IE, I tried without success. Basically, I cannot edit anything in the WiRNS.db....PPV driver, Replays. And I keep getting the same error as was reported above when updating the guide on my Replay.

Are there any particular IE settings that may be affecting this? I was fine running 1.1.7.

I am trying to help out and having fun with this. Just let me know what info helps in these situations, specifically, and I'll provide it.

BTW, what should be entered in the PPV driver fields for Dish?

Thanks,
Sean

If I remember correctly, the recommended entries are "Dish Network" and Eastern.

thanks for the help. Once I get this ironed out, it'll run even better as sqlite v3 seems to run a lot faster and I've added a few more performance tweaks on the version I'm running (yes, I test before I publish ;-) ). :-)

Sean,

Did you go back and add your replay? This may be because you didn't add it yet. Try that, restart & then do a guide update, restart again & see what happens.

Ryan

Sean_S

Ryan,

I installed, updated the guide, and got this error, I then added my Replays and PPV, updated the guide and got the error again. I restarted and updated the guide again and got the error again. I was running from startwirns.bat, not using the service. It throws the error every time it tries to "refresh plugin channel guide".

I have a guide file for each Replay in my WiRNS forlder, but one is significantly larger than the other....1KB vs. 5-6KB (I've edited this...was MB...d'oh).

I will try again and keep trying to update my Replays until I see a channel lineup for each. Maybe I didn't try to refresh enough.....

Sean

Sean_S
12-07-04, 12:58 PM
Now I am getting this error on ANY version of WiRNS I try:
.........

[2004-12-07 11:52:17] Processing Episode Table...
[2004-12-07 11:52:17] This can take up to 20 minutes...

at WiRNS.WiRNSService.DoGuideUpdate()

Any ideas? I've deleted the database several times and have tried versions 1.1.5, 1.1.7, 1.1.9, 1.2.2, and 1.2.3. I get the same error every time during the initial guide update.

Sean

Sean_S
12-07-04, 01:32 PM
I'm also consistently left with a file in the WiRNS directory called "showlist.jpg" after the error.

Thought this may help. I'm going to clean out everything and reinstall 1.2.3 again.

Ryan, are you using IE on WinXP pro SP2? That's my config.

I am running the same browser/OS. All Sean's findings are consistent with mine. See http://www.planetreplay.com/phpBB2/posting.php?mode=quote&p=34585 for a more thorough explanation.

Thanks, Ryan. I'm remote desktop-ing my PC at home and I was able to get all of the data entered and it created my program guide. I'll have to update the Replay when I get home. Hopefully, the guide update will work.

One thing though, I still cannot get Dish PPV to work. I used "Dish Network" and "Eastern" when setting up the driver. Are there particular channels I need to have selected at Zap2It in order for Dish PPV to work? I have PPV channels 502-539 selected in my lineup.

Thanks,
Sean

After a clean install of the latest build, 2 manual updates and a couple of manual server/service monitor restarts, things seem to be going well. Instead of listing all of my RTV's, I entered only 5 of them. They have all updated and parsed automatically this morning.

I am awaiting an auto guide data update sometime in the early evening. That will tell more. Poopli is running normally.

Wayne

Running much better now. My Replays updated their guides w/o error.

However, I still get the exception error when I try to delete the PPV driver or update a replay. I can update the PPV driver though. I also get the "database is locked" occasionally.

DISH PPV still not working either....sometimes I get PPV guide info for PPV channels 539 and 9467, but none of the others. Also, the PPV guide info that does load onto the Replay on channel 539 has all of the show data for all other PPV channels, i.e. each hour or half-hour shows another program title. So it appears that WiRNS is downloading the PPV data, but isn't organizing it properly.

Cliff..

Good news. I was able to repeat your guide server problem.

The problem was that the ServerManagement plugin was being built before the GuideServer plugin. This will have a older create date and be loaded first.

To resolve, from here on out, I re-arranged the build order to be alphabetical.

So.. Get this file & delete the plugins before unzipping in the wirns folder. Be sure to keep any that are not listed in the zip.

http://www.users.qwest.net/~bolenbaughryan2/WiRNS.Guide.Prob.Fix.zip

This should also fix the database lock issue. With SQLite3, the locking is handled better and I was able to remove the manual locking.

I'm not getting any guide updates....

I'm using a slightly older version of wirns service, though - from november 12th.

It seems to "STOP" getting updates after a few days running. Today, no data at all. Can't even load a guide.

It poops out after downloading the first days guide data. I've made no changes whatsoever.

Guerito and Carnivore - the format at the zap2it/datadirect end changed 12/8/04 and there's nothing any of us WiRNS end users can do until the changes are coded into the program. kjac is the guy behind WiRNS while rbolen70 has enhanced it. So just sit back and wait until an update gets posted here.

The Zap2It data direct feed has made a change in the provided data format. The Wirns folks are working on changing the Wirns system to properly handle the changed format.

At this point, continue to monitor the board here and Planet Replay. I'd be surprised if an updated Wirns is not available shortly.

DD's fixed... Thanks KJac!!!

If you're using KJac's last build 1.1.2b:

Its amazing how we become so dependent on the brilliance of others, and don't really appreciate it until there is a little hiccup in the system ;)

Unfortunately, I/we can only sit back and watch with awe as these people provide the tools we use/need on a regular basis. Without DVarchive/poopli/Wirns my replaytv experience would be much less enjoyable. And for me WiRNS is especially important since its the ONLY way for me to get my Canadian listings imported.

Anyway, I know its been said before, but to all those guys out there who provide us with the applications and guidance (you know who you are!!), we salute you!!!

And for those of you trying to get PPV listings to work...look in the (WiRNS) log file for the name of your line up. Then enter this in the PPV driver set up in WiRNS. I'm not sure if the time zone is critical or not (I entered Central). Using this name, I was able to get PPV listings for the first time this morning for DishNetwork.

Many thanks to kjac, rbolen70 and anyone else involved in the continuing development and support of WiRNS.

Let me underscore what supergenius, l8er and others have already said.

When I lived in Denver I was able to enjoy all the features of my ReplayTV but when I moved back to Canada I was certain I'd be destined to spend the rest of my life using a Buffalo zip code doing manual records.

kjac and rbolen have added back what makes the Replay experience so worthwhile and I owe you both a debt of gratitude. If you ever need any resources for this project just say the word!

Thanks too, L8ER, for the PPV info. I'm glad you got it working. Can't wait to try it.

Gary,

I'm still not getting Dish PPV. I've tried "DISH Network" and "DishNetwork" - the 2 different ways it is written in the log. Neither is working. What, exactly, did you enter?

Thanks,
Sean

..... and ours....

:D

Seriously...... Things are looking up here.

Once again a complete install (c/d all).

Guide data 14 days with full parsing, ToDo processing, refreshing, vacuuming, etc.

One RTV (only) was added which had nothing on it.

PPV for Dish Network (as suggested in L8tr's AVS post)

Guide Data is now loading and up to day 8.

Very encouraging.

How are others doing.

I'll report back my results in about 20 minutes.

On the 2nd Guide Update, I got 10 days of data and the server went idle ;-(

In the WiRNS Channel Guide, I do have data until Dec. 22 (13 days). Hmmmm..

No PPV data. The placeholders are there with "Pay Per View" as the title in 4 hour blocks.

I configured 5 RTV's and all seemed to work and refresh properly. Then I got brave and put in a 6th. It tried to refresh and I got this message:
[2004-12-10 19:19:41] Refreshing RecordingGuide for: Family Room Dishnet(192.168.1.110)
[2004-12-10 19:19:46] Parsed 0/0 entries.
[2004-12-10 19:19:46] WiRNSService.BuildToDo(): database is locked at Finisar.SQLite.sqlite3.Throw()
at Finisar.SQLite.sqlite_vm.step()
at Finisar.SQLite.SQLiteCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()
at WiRNS.WiRNSService.BuildToDo()

I stopped/started the server via the controller. Then tried to delete the 6th RTV via Config/Replays/Delete. The browser went to 'cannot display'.

This happened consistently before. In the log, the same error message about a locked database was there for each attempt to do an action after the delete attempt.

I will go back to 5 RTV's. It seems to me that in 1.1.x I was always able to have as many as I wanted.

Still no ToDo list, no PPV for Dish Network, and Poopli is transfering well. Poopli updater is not seeing all units and giving me errors. I wonder if, with the new builds and DD changes, there is need for j.m. to tweak the plugin?

Thats all for now. I hope that I see and update tomorrow.

kjac.... is 1.1.2 updating as it should and playing well with Poopli? Can I enter 6 units or more? Is the Dish Network PPV functional?

Regards,

Wayne

Things are getting better.

Wayne

Looking at the wirns.db file with sqlite3Explorer I can see PPV listings, but there's still no PPV detail showing up in the channel guide for my ReplayTVs.

I know that this will, eventually, sort itself out. There are issues for me with respect to provider names being different on the RTV's, the db, wirn.lineups and wirns.replays .

I would say that after the holiday season, WiRNS will be bulletproof. I know that kjac and Ryan are about to (hopefully) get some more help from a couple of other developers.

In beta, like always...... stay tuned.

Just a word of caution to anyone who is now using WiRNS and j.m.'s plugins to stave off software updates and have IVS/CA.......

BEWARE !!!!!!!!

Don't connect without a condom!

Use caution if you are trying to protect from updating a 55xx to the latest software.

Wayne

After running a couple of days, the movie listings are now back to no MPAA rating, no star rating and no year info for the new day added by today's download (12/25). :(

I was using wirns 1.1.2b for a long time. Everything was working great for quite some time. Then all of a sudden when downloading the next set of guide information (starting at Dec. 9th, I starting seeing these stack traces and it will not longer get the guide info. I have even tried getting 1.2.3 and starting from scratch and when I do the manual guide update, I get the same errors. Nothing in my network has changed nor my configurations. I have no idea what's wrong. Any ideas from you folks?

My wirns.log lists my lineup simply as "DISH Network" at the point where it begins loading each day. Then, further down, where is says "fetching PPV" is says "Fetching DishNetwork PPV". I've tried both. At the Zap2It site my lineup is listed as "DISH Network - USA - Satellite". I've tried all 3 of these variations along with "Central", "CST", "Eastern", and "EST" for the timezones. I too see the data when I view the channel guide in WiRNS, but it is all on channel 539. When I view the guide in the Replay there is nothing for any of the PPV's.

Do you guys think it may matter which PPV channels we have selected at Zap2It?

The last time I got Dish PPV to work I simply had "Dish Network" and "Central" for the PPV driver. ????

I have a feeling that something is different now.

rbolen70 / kjac,

I run WiRNS 24/7 on my server so my ReplayTV can connect at will and my channel guide is always up to date.

My daughter, on the other hand, has a 5040 but does not run her computer all the time. I have WiRNS installed as a service on her PC and about once a week she updates the program guide and forces a net connect. If she goes away for more than a week or so she runs the risk of running out of program guide.

In a previous post (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&postid=4460158&highlight=perl#post4460158) moyekj describes a perl script that wakes a computer, starts WiRNS and forces the RTV to do a net connect. He describes it as...

The Perl script first initiates Wirns on your PC, then uses cioc commands (like the remote remote controls) to issue power on, 2,4,3, zones, 7, sleep, exit, power off to the appropriate RTV over your LAN. So it's an automated way of starting Wirns, forcing a net connect, sleeping for a while, then killing Wirns.
Details can be found near the bottom of the page at http://replayguide.sourceforge.net/rtv5504/index.html

It would be handy if she had the option to force a net connect immediately after WiRNS has updated the program guide.

If this was built-in I could then program the PC's BIOS to wake at a certain time every day, automatically starting WiRNS is a service. I can use Windows "Scheduled Tasks" to initiate a guide update and, if a net connect was then forced, the RTV could be kept up to date without running the PC 24/7.

What do you think?

Changed ZipcodeProvider. Lineups no longer have (DirecTV) when selecting;

Looking at the Change Log, I suspect that this change may have disabled the Serial Control (limited to Direct TV in the Replay, AFAIK).

If that guess is correct, is a 1.2.2 ZipCodeProvider DLL compatable with the current 1.2.4 Releases?

Thanks

I tried going back to an earlier version of the ZipCode provider and that jus caused a slew of errors to happen when I tried to change providers.

Cliff.. If you were to try to use earlier versions of ZipCodeProvider, you'll need to go back to plain 'ole 1.2.4...

Ryan,

What would you suggest? I'd hate to have to cement in place my version of Wirns, but the Serial connection is required for me. I know kjac worked pretty hard to discover that secret. 1.2.4 seems after the change to the naming convention changed. What I load now is;

It was likely 1.2.2, Dollars to Donuts, it's the removal of the string DIRECTV that is the problem. I think that if Replay sees that String, it enables Serial control. If it;s not a directv system, then serial control is not offered. Just my 2 cents.

If you could cobble up a zipcodeprovider that is compatable, and has that old style naming convention, I can test it out and see if that's the deal.

Well, the (DirecTV) to (WiRNS) change was in 1.2.3.30515 according to the change log.

Probably be easier to do a quick build of ZipCodeProvider that changes (WiRNS back to (DirecTV).

Thanks for the help. Yeah, it would have been nice if the Replay designers had a Y/N 0/1 flag someplace for that control, but I guess they were in a text parse mood the day that was written.

Let me know where to send the Donuts!

ltj.. Is your WiRNS IP public? if so, just point her replay to your IP.

It's not... but I've been thinking about this solution for some time. Tell me if you think this would work...

1. Add her channel lineup to my WiRNS server.
2. Forward port 80 TCP through my router to my WiRNS server IP.
3. Add her RTV IP to my list of ReplayTV machines.
4. Change her ReplayTV to use my public IP.
a. Leave her DNS server and gateway pointing at her local router.
5. Forward her port 80 TCP to her RTV so my WiRNS can see it.
6. Leave my RTV setup exactly as is.

Opinion?

It will work if you start the WiRNS application, but not as a service yet.

j.m. just gave me the source last night, so I have IVSProvider ready for running WiRNS as a service now, but am doing a few other things to the main app before posting.

I guess it would be best if I write protect / keep a safety copy of that zipcodeprovider file. Not sure how often that changes, but I'll need to be careful if I'm going off of the mainstream. I don't want to run into version mismatch problems up the road.

Using that Text Parse of the Replay Code precludes something in the data other then that word in the provider, so that limits options I guess.

Actually, I have it working with WiRNS as a service.

The trick is instead of putting the IVSProvider.conf files under your WiRNS directory is to put them under %SystemRoom%\System32.

Is there a simple way I can continue to get the replaytv listings but tell the replay that the broadcast listing is actually a cable tv listing or satellite listing using wirns? Thats really all I need to do to get the hdtv working on my local channels.

If you pick any cable system, any local one to your zip, and just deselect the ones you don't need, would that do it? That would allow you to pick an IR code to change channels.

I currently have selected a cable listing I dont have but that requires you to do all your recording as manual recordings because the listings don't match. I can live with that but ideally I'd like to match the listings.

My changes make this happen already.

Any lineup that where the type doesn't start with the word "Cable" is made into a Satellite Lineup (that eliminated the need to go into the database to change the type "Local Broadcast" to "Satellite" to get Local Broadcast listings to show for Satellite input).

As an FYI, I did a different variation of this to my own ZipCodeProvider.

Strange I had never noticed the loss of the screen to select IR/Serial/Serial(APG)....probably because I use IR for my boxes.

I made the change to show them as

desc = "WiRNS - " + _reader.GetString(0);

And then add " (DirecTV)" only if the type is "S".

As you can see I also left out the _reader.GetString(2) stuff, because the lineup name is kind of long as:

"(WiRNS) Time Warner Cable - Digital Digital (DirecTV) (Digital)"

Now it shows as just"

"WiRNS - Time Warner Cable - Digital (Digital)"

Can't quite help that Zap2It puts "- Digital" on the end of the lineup" and then the ReplayTV automatically adds " (Digital)"....but at least I can leave out the
extra " Digital" and the " (DirecTV)".

Meanwhile for my Satellite box

"WiRNS - Local Broadcast Listing (DirecTV)"

Since the DD change I've had a few issues, but now it's running and this is what I have found.

1.1.2b with the DD update didn't work (too many exceptions)
1.2.5 didn't work properly (half the channels had 'No Program Information')
1.2.4 works great for replay program guide serving. ToDo not working giving "WiRNSService.BuildToDo(): Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at WiRNS.WiRNSService.BuildToDo()" when rebuilding.

Request: It would be nice for the View Log to behave similiar to a 'tail -f' so I don't need to do a refresh and a scroll down.

Basically, why dup efforts? You already have it setup..

Well, my first try at setting this up was not totally successful. Here are the steps I took after adding her Zap2it channel lineup to my WiRNS setup...

1. At my end, forwarded port 80 to my WiRNS server IP (192.168.2.97).
2. At her end, forwarded port 80 to her RTV (192.168.2.90).
3. At my end, added her RTV to my WiRNS setup using her public IP.
4. Restarted WiRNS in application mode. WiRNS successfully refreshed her Recording Guide. :)
5. At her end, entered my public IP into her RTV as her DNS1 entry.
6. The RTV could not connect to the network. :(
7. At her end she tried http://my_public_ip in Internet Explorer to see if she could see the guide info on my server.
8. Windows kept substituting 192.168.2.97 for my_publc_ip into her address bar and timing-out declaring the page was not accessible.

I am working on the assumption that the RTV has the same problem seeing my public IP that Internet Explorer did and that, if I can solve that, the exercise will succeed.

Complicating things is that her private network settings and hardware are exactly the same as mine (Linksys WRT54G set to 192.168.2.1) and her RTV IP and WiRNS IP are exactly the same as mine (it seemed like a good idea at the time). She is running stock Linksys firmware and I am running Sveasoft Alchemy 6RC3.

I can't be sure if the substituting of 192.168.2.97 for my_public_ip is happening at her end or my end. Since all she had on at the time was her router and notebook computer I suspect the substitution is happening at my end.

So I need some of you network gurus out there to tell me if there is anything special about forwarding port 80 and if you can think of a reason how the router at my end could substitute the IP address of the port being forwarded to in place of my_public_ip that was entered.

Thanks,
ltj

Since you're going across the network and have to forward ports, you'll also need to forward UDP/53 to your WiNRS box.

To see if she can get to the guide server, use this: http://my_public_ip/manage/GuideServer I'll correct this soon so that WiRNS won't return the local IP and will use whatever you connect with.

To verify everything, check a connection with Ethereal (http://www.ethereal.com)

Another option to keep it local to her is to use moyekj's script. It'll start WiRNS, force a net connect and then kill WiRNS here: Enabling CA/IVS on RTV5504 (http://replayguide.sourceforge.net/rtv5504/index.html)

hehe.. corrected Ethereal's link.. thanks rickster

Jim,

It appears our script to automatically add and delete stations from lineups is not working properly and our developer is on vacation this week. As a workaround, you can delete your old lineup and add this lineup again and channel 197 FNC will appear. Hope it won't take too long to customize your channels again.

We will get this script working again next week.

Thanks,

Almost.

My WiRNS was able to see her RTV and it updated the channel guide info perfectly.

She was not able to see my WiRNS server, however, because at present WiRNS returns the WiRNS IP rather than the public IP. I don't pretend to understand this of course but Ryan wrote...

Ok.. I checked, and there was only a couple place where WiRNS returns the WiRNS IP, and that was just for recording. It will be normal for the PC to return the static IP (WiRNS IP) when behind a NAT router.

When WiRNS gets NAT'd to a public IP, is that the IP that her Replay talks to or is there a NAT pool?

If you could, put ethereal on her side and sniff a capture (if possible).

Ryan

I know this works. I just remembered that this has been done before over the Internet. (maybe it was my WiRNS box, maybe not.. :) ) This will just take a little patience.

I remembered that when it was done before, the WiRNS IP was a static, public IP on the PC. Can you do this, or do you only have the option from your ISP for dynamic IPs?

rbolen70
12-24-04, 03:16 PM
I just had an idea... You'll see something in the next few days..

Hold off on the static ip's.. :)

Jim... I figured it out.. This will look in the wirns.hosts file for the remote public IP and return the local public IP when the queries are for the standard production*.replaytv.net.

Problem solved...

Try this:

Stop WiRNS & unzip the attached zip to your WiRNS directory.
Start WiRNS either via service or app mode.

Then, in the file wirns.hosts add a line with her public IP and your public IP.

Example: x.x.x.x = her public IP & y.y.y.y = your public IP
x.x.x.x=y.y.y.y

Merry Christmas.. :)

This has already been pointed out at the zap2it labs forums. You can update the database, but the sqlite explorer that you have is for ver 2.x.

Go to the WiRNS link in my signature & follow the download links to get either sqlite3explorer or sqlite.exe (both zipped).

You can make the change, but it'll get wiped out on the next connect.

Ryan,

I copied the NAT version of WiRNS you gave me and tried connecting with my local ReplayTV. No joy.

When I forced a net connect my RTV sat at checking the time for 30 seconds or more before continuing on. It seemed to do everything in normal time after that until it got to Replay Zone 10/15 and then just stopped dead. I tried waiting 10 minutes or more and it never moved on.

The wirns.hosts file is in the WiRNS subdirectory looks like this:
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx=yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy (her public ip = my public ip)

The log file using the NAT version, after the forced net connect that stalled at Replay Zone 10/15, looks like this:

ok.. It looks like you put her public IP and your private IP in the wirns.hosts?

if her public IP is 10.10.10.1 and your public ip is 172.16.1.1, the wirns.hosts would look like:

yes, my RTV IP is 192.196.2.90 and yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy is my public IP.

As per your example, the wirns.hosts is 10.10.10.1=172.16.1.1.

Try this... It also has Manual Guide Update Timer & easier Dish PPV settings.

I tried the DNS stuff & worked here.. lemme know...

Ryan,

The local connection worked perfectly. I will try the "remote" connection tomorrow and let you know how it goes.

BTW, I use dyndns.org to track my IP address. If I set that up for her as well can I use domain names on either / both sides of the = sign in wirns.conf? For example:

her.homeip.net=my.homeip.net

Also, is there a limit to the number of entries that can be in wirns.conf?

Yes.. you can use names.. as long as they're in DNS like yours. and I'm unaware of any limitations... yet.. :)

New version 1.2.6

Go to http://wirns.zapto.org and go to "Just lemme download" toward the bottom.

IMPORTANT!!! Do NOT Upgrade if you're running a version older than 1.1.2.14760. Too many changes to the database, configuration and application.

**** YOU MUST run "wirns.exe -convert" immediately after install if you are running 1.1.5.20152 or older. Otherwise, you'll need to enter IP & DD info again. Replays and other info will not be affected.

**** If you use the DTV PPV or Sports listings, please visit http://www.geocities.com/paglierani and donate.

** YOU WILL HAVE TO DELETE YOUR WIRNS.DB FILE IF YOU'RE RUNNING < 1.2.3.x : follow instructions in install.txt.

WiRNSMon - Can now be used when WiRNS is run as an app (service must be installed)

Still only for WinNT/2K/Xp

1.2.6 12/28/2004
WiRNS
1. Added support for WiRNS behind NAT router for remote ReplayTV's (see wirns.hosts)
2. Manual Guide Updater (on Datadirect Configuration Page)
3. "Automagic" (almost) Dish PPV settings
4. Force NetConnect for Replays - takes about 8-9 seconds for status (on Replay Configuration Page)

1.1 12/21/2004
WiRNSMon
1. Checks socket (TCP/80) if WiRNS is running before enabling features instead of using a timer.
2. Added menu to edit IVSProvider.conf.

For more, see changelog.txt...

I tried to install wirns back in the summer and gave up in frustration. Not so much because I lost hope but because I ran out of time. And that's what leads me into my question. Since I have very little free time, is it worth trying again to install wirns? Is the new 1.2.6 version much easier? I mainly want to be able to remotely schedule recordings on my 4ks. I was hoping DVArchive would have this capability by now, but it doesn't. DVA and the new poopli updater are wonderful, not just because of their cool features, but also because I can get them up and running in no time. I recognize that wirns does a lot of other nifty stuff, but if it takes me more than an hour or so to set it up and all I need is 4k scheduling, should I just wait?

it's a lot easier now.. I'd say < 30 min, including the time for a full guide update.

Nice update!! One question - how exactly do I use remapchan.csv? Before to remap channels I changed the lineupmaps table. I tried that again this time, and it appeared to work correctly, but when I got home today nothing seemed to work. There wasn't any channel data in my replay or in WiRNS, and doing a guide update didn't do anything. This was with 1.2.5. I just grabbed 1.2.6 to see if it fixes things in the meantime.

Ryan,

I installed 1.2.6 and made a connection with my local RTV and it continued to work fine (other than the response from zap2it was very, very slow). BTW, for the testing phase I am running WiRNS in a DOS window.

I had my daughter change her router settings, I added her RTV to my list and then had her change the DNS1 IP to my public one. In a few seconds I saw a hit in my WiRNS window and her RTV accepted the network addresses.

I then had her change the ZIP code (she was running 1.2.4) so she could see my "new" channel lineups. I saw 3 hits in my WiRNS windows and her RTV screen said it was "Setting Clock...". It stayed there for 20 or 30 seconds and then displayed an "Unexpected result code. (84420005)" error message (see photo).

Below is the dos window capture. Her public IP is shown as x.x.x.x and my public IP is shown as y.y.y.y.

Ryan,

Dish PPV is still not working for me. Initially I unzipped v.1.2.6 over 1.2.5. When It got to fetching PPV I got SQL errors. Sorry I didn't save them.

So I uninstalled, deleted the WiRNS folder and reg keys and installed using the .msi. I no longer get the SQL errors but I get "no information" for the Dish PPV channels. I am choosing "DISH Network" as the provider and either Eastern or Central for the timezone.

Any suggestions? Does anyone have Dish PPV working. I hate to keep bringing it up, but it is the main feature that I'm trying to get from WiRNS.

Thanks,

Sean

Ryan, just curious...

Do you know if a domain name can be used in place of an IP address when setting up a new ReplayTV in the WiRNS database? For example, in my case, can my daughter's RTV be addressed using her DynDNS URL or must it be a literal IP address?

Hmm.. I've not tried that yet.. Lemme see.. I suppose you could if it's in dns...

Any suggestions? Does anyone have Dish PPV working. I hate to keep bringing it up, but it is the main feature that I'm trying to get from WiRNS.

Thanks,

Hey, Wayne.

I've used Dynamic DNS before, but my new ISP only changes my address every few months, so I never bothered to set it up. It just figures that they would change it today. The only reason I ever need it is to remote desktop into my system. I don't serve anything from my network. Come to think of it, my domain registration has run out as well. :(

OK, I was able to remote into my PC. I installed the new version and tried Eastern and Central for the timezones...nada. This is after completely deleting the database. When I view the channel guide through WiRNS, all I see is the PPV data for 537 and 9467.

Any ideas?

Yes, AFAIK, the timezone must be Eastern (case sensitive, I think). kjac had it set up like that for a specific reason (which I don't recall).

Thanks, Wayne.

That's the way I tried it....several times. In the last 2hrs I've reinstalled completely about 4-5 times. I just can't get it to work. Another thing I was wondering....at which point during the setup process should one configure the PPV driver? It is not mentioned in the .txt file. Should it be before the replays and lineups are added, or after? Or does it matter?

I'm sure Ryan will figure it out though.

Thanks,

Sean:

I have always set up the PPV for Dish Network at the same time as setting up the RTV's. That could be the key. Remember, there is an update done (during initial install) which won't include the PPV plugin and configuration together.

Having said that, we did have this working well during the 0.7x days. At that time, I always did the PPV with RTV configuration.

As I said recently, this will get solved. Changes in DD/zap2it protocol don't make things any easier on Ryan ;-(

I used 1.2.6.24250 & setup Dish Network (the National one) on DD. Then I selected the Dish Network lineup & left the timezone Eastern on the PPV config page and that worked for me.

rbolen70

come to think of it.. the provider doesn't matter. It just has to be valid & you have no choice now but to make it a valid entry. :)

I would suggest to just pick the provider & leave the timezone alone (Eastern) and of course load 1.2.6.24250...

The 1.2.6.x NAT version of WiRNS works perfectly when set up according to the instructions Ryan provides. Kudos to Ryan for his work on this. Without him I would still be on-call to my daughter's ReplayTV channel guides problems and WiRNS version updates which, from 100KM away, are not always easy to do.

As both my daughter and I have dynamic IP addresses I set up accounts at DynDNS for each of us and configured our routers to update DynDNS whenever our IP addresses change. I was then able to use her DNS name in the IP field when I added her RTV to my instance of WiRNS. Now I don't need to worry about updating it if her IP address changes in the future.

BTW Ryan, I was not able to use the DNS names in wirns.hosts. When we tried it WiRNS treated her public IP as not being found in the table and returned 192.168.2.97. It's not a biggie, but it sure would be handy.

If/when the use of DNS names in wirns.hosts is supported the only IP address I will need to be cognizant of is my public IP (it needs to be entered in her DNS1 field in her RTV network setup). When my public IP address changes the DynDNS updater will send both of us emails telling us the new IP and she will then enter it into DNS1 and be good to go.

Again, many thanks to Ryan and the others working to make WiRNS even better.

ltj

**EDIT**
Ryan, my daughter will not use the Replay Guide and To-Do features of WiRNS so is it necessary to have her ReplayTV identified in the WiRNS database?

In other words, would she still be able to update her channel listing if I remove her from the configuration?

**EDIT2**
Answered my own question. The remote RTV does not need to be in the datatbase to get it's channel guide, only to create the WiRNS guide and to-do lists.

I removed my daugther's Replay from my instance and had her close port 80 on her router.

Ryan and kjac have done a gr8 job using their sharp brains to get WiRNS to where it is today. Hats off to all the guys (including l8er, sean,Wayne, TheDreamer etc) who are involved in the evolution of the same. The only thing that probably might have skipped off your mind might have been the sequence of events to follow in the readme.txt file i.e once the WiRNS IP and DD info has been entered, what steps to follow after that. The readme.txt has all the steps but it's very confusing that what info needs to be entered when and which button or menu option needs to be pressed/selected when.

Here's might last night's story.. from 9:00 p.m till 6:00 a.m today morning and still couldn't get to configure anything. ;-(((..

I have a 5504.
Like last night I was downloaded the guide etc. using the Administration -> Update Guide
(check status by clicking on the Status Menu Item) step . It took appro 5 mins to do so since I had asked it to do only 2 days of data. After that I added the PPV Info and clicked on the UPDATE button and the thing started updating the guide again with the PPV info. OK..Good.. In the meanwhile I also added the Replay TVs with the channel lineup but since I just have one replayTV and my DD is configured for DISH Detroit only so I selected DISH Detroit in the first Lineup drop down and put in the serial key and static IP of the ReplayTV and saved it by clicking on the UPDATE button but this time nothing happend. I mean the update guide did not start. So as per the instructions I went undert Admin-->Update guide and it started to update the guide all over again. What a waste of time. NEways.. Now I go back to the Replays and try to edit the Replay to see my info. that I saved for the Replay and the channel Lineup selected has disappeared. It's back to NONE even though I selected DISH Detroit. Secondly nothing shows up in the Tools-->Channel Guide oren the To Do List OR Replay Guide .. Also when I checked back the ReplayTV options it now shows Dish Detroit (DirectTV) even though DirectTV was not chosen as an option ANYWHERE in this whole scenario.
All this has messed up my whole setup. BIG CONFUSION.. I request you "ALL BRAINS" out there to please write up a detailed procedure (eplaining STEP BY STEP) of how to setup the WiRNS to get the guide info. from DD and align the channels. I know it's not a whole lot of brainy job to do for you folks, but believe me it will ease out this process a whole lot.

Again.. special thanks to Ryan and kjac for having done such a wonderful job. Keep up the good work.

Still looking for a good guide update procedure....

Also the serial no of my Replay at one places shows

RTV5 504 ...... 60 Y56

where as at other it shows RTV5 504 .... 60.

Which one is correct ? Lastly.. do I need to enter it with spaces while setting up my Replay TV ? Please advice..

OK, well I reset my lineup at Zap2It as Dish Network - USA - Satellite. I left all of the channels on my lineup. I completely removed every trace of WiRNS from my PC. I installed the newest version. Ran startwirns.bat, added my IP info and Zap2It login, and clicked update guide. When idle, I added just one of my Replays and the Dish PPV driver with DISH Network as the provider and the timezone I left as Eastern. I then initiated another guide update (noticed that the "fetching Dishnetwork PPV" operation only lasted about 15 seconds. When idle I closed out of WiRNS and then relaunched it. Still no PPV info in my guide server. I went ahead and ran a net connect on my replay...nothing there either.

???? I don't know what I'm missing.

Any help would be appreciated.

And I really do appreciate all of you guys.

Sean:

I installed the latest installer build. My PPV was configured when I configured my Replays. Standard provider (my DD is USA National) and Eastern timezone.

My install update gave me placeholders for 501-530 with 4hr. blocks of no guide data. I rebooted the server (as per normal install). After about 1hr., I did a manual update. I was left with no placeholders but did get Guide Data for PPV channels 537 and 539.

I set up for an daily update at 10amEST. I got a 14 day database and the log showed the following error:

[2004-12-30 10:56:13] WiRNSService.BuildToDo(): Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at WiRNS.WiRNSService.BuildToDo()

I have no ToDo entries and no PPV guide data. The server seems to need a restart in order to interact with IVS/Poopli.

This was a fresh install. I have a feeling that the problems are on my end. Yet, I can't help wondering if the "Expressvu-Digital Digital" thingy is a problem.

My channel guides are full for the next 14 days. Dish, BEV and DTV are my providers.

I may do another clean/delete/install tonight if the hockey game gets out of control (Canada vs. Finland , World Juniors). If not, sometime tomorrow.

Wayne,

I, too, got as far as having data on 537 and 539 (although I think we get these even w/o a PPV driver), but 502-536 are placeholders on the Replay and not even present on the WiRNS guide server.

My provider on Zap2It is "Dish Network - USA - Satellite". I don't use IVS or Poopli. I just hate not being able to record a PPV automatically when I purchase one. I have to do a manual record.

I haven't had PPV working since I upgraded to v.1.2.2 I think it was. And even then it would put random PPV guide info on random channels like 130 or something.

Ryan, I could forward you a copy of my database if you think it would help.

Thanks,
Sean

OK Guys.. here's my share of info. I did get everything working.. Two new Wirns entries in my ReplayTV provider select options for Wirns Dish (DirectTV) And Wirns Dish Network (DirectTV). Even though both of them say "(DirectTV)" at the end but they still both are actually DISH NETWORK. Can l8er, ryan or kjac please modify the program to show DISH NETWORK (and not DirectTV) if the provider is DISH NETWORK.

It showed me all the guide i.e for both services i.e Dish Detroit (Configured for US Channels) and Dish Network USA (configured for Intl. channels). Now comes the tough part. Mapping. Since my provider for the USA channels is thru a non dish receiver i.e Pansat 2500a, so how can I map channels of ReplayTV to my Pansat. The process of entering a new IR code for Pansat is already completed. So I know that my Replay's IR is working with the Pansat IR. Now how to I map the channels ? Any idea.

Oh. By the way.. Finally when I tried to do this whole setup again, I lost everything and currently as I write this post, everything's gone and am back to square one. ;-))).. But I've atleast seen once as to how will it finally look and work. RIght now it's giving me an exception of when building the ToDo list after adding the Replays. Any solution for that ?

Also seeking advice on how to carry forward the channel mapping thing for my ReplayTV to work with Pansat 2500a.

There is something to do with the protocol that requires (DirectTV) at the end of each WiRNS provider. There have been experiments to remove it. Recently, Ryan put (WiRNS) in place of (DirectTV) and there were issues.

You should see, however, that (WiRNS) is placed in front of each WiRNS provider in this latest build.

I, too, have buildtodo issues. This latest build seems like a really good update but still has a few issues. PPV is flakey for me. ToDo is not there.

It will get resolved.

Re the DirectTV deal. It appears that the core Replay software reqires that provider string to enable the serial control port. That port is required for both some DTV and Other applications (like 4DTV).

Some really wonderful adavances since yesterday. Use the 1.2.4 or higher build. Now the process..

Assumption
** That you have already opened a labs.zap2it.com account with the coupon code specified in most of the posts. Once logged to the http://labs.zap2it.com , and after defining your channel lineup, copy and paste the provider name exactly as it appears there like mine shows "DISH Detroit - Detroit - Satellite".

1. Exlode/Install the zip/msi file in the c:\wirns folder and say Start_service from the command prompt.
2. Put in Wirns IP, DNS and your zap2it user id and pwd and go to open your web browser.
3. Go to your http://IP Address of your machine (i.e if your machine IP is 192.168.0.180 then put http://192.168.0.180) or you may also go to http://127.0.0.1:8923
4. Click on Administration-->Update Guide and follow the log file screen.
5. Once the status is IDLE and the updates are over i.e status=IDLE then restart the server.
5. After the server is up again, put the PPV details and in the provider put the provider name that you copied from the zap2it.com website like mine was "DISH Detroit - Detroit - Satellite"
6. Put the timezone as "Eastern"
7. Now click on Administration-->Update Guide and click on the Status to make sure that the status changes to "Updating Guide". Keep a check of the logfile at Administration--->View Logfile to see if your PPVs are being picked up for the provider that you mentioned in PPV settings.
8. Once status shows Idle i.e the update is complete, restart the server again.
9. After the server is up and runing, put in Replay configuration (put the IP address, 18 digit Serial no and the offsets and click on the Update button below to save it) and say Administration-->Update guide again. Now this time it might show you an exception while building the ToDo list at the end of the logfile. No probs.
7. Restart the server again and now click on the Tools--Channel Guide and you'll see the channel guide down below which you wouldn't have seen in the prior step. It also shows you your replaytv in the ToDo list.

Now set your ReplayTVs IP address to be a static one. Make sure it's the same that you mentioned in the Replays settings. Set the DNS to be that of your computer's IP somethign like 192.168.0.180 and the Gateway to be the router's IP something like 192.168.0.1. Change the zip code to be something within your neighborhood so that the ReplayTV will try to go to the replay service but now thru your computer and in turn the WiRNS server will take over from here on. CHeck the Administration-->Log File and you'll see the message about the WiRNS activity with your Replay TV. Once done, ReplayTV is going to ask you for Input 1 provider and other Input providers. Choose the ones that have something like Wirns DISH (DirectTV) kinda message and you're all set.

This might not work for all of us out here but it definitely worked for me.

What did not work was the Tools--->Replay Guide i.e it did not show me the recorded ReplayTV shows.

Now my next project is how to map channels from my ReplayTV to the Pansat ? DOes anybody have any idea of how to do that.. I know there's some .csv file method but don't know how to map it.

The remapping CSV file was initially designed for the 4DTV (C/Ku Band Satellite Receiver). That receiver uses the Letter/Numbers for the Satellite and Channel within that satelite for tuning. The Zap2It folks, after a bit of persistent prodding, allowed the 4DTV listings to be added to the available listings. The Remapchan.CSV was the method that Wirns (and I'm Grateful) uses to translate the 4DTV channel ID's to the Numeric ID's needed for the Replay.

I'll post a few lines from my csv file. It's really pretty easy to do. Just make sure you have a line for every channel (exactly as received from Zap2It) and then the channel and Title that you want to see on the Replay. For Example, on Satellite C3 at Logical Channel ID 101, you'd find Showtime.

C3101,SHOW,537,SHOW
C3102,SHOTOO,538,SHOTOO
C3103,SHOCSE,539,SHOCSE
C3104,SHOWX,732,SHOWX
C3105,SHOWB,729,SHOWB

OK Guys.. Hey RXMAN.. specially for you man.. The Pansat 2500a receiver owners.. Here's the info on how to remap the channels.. It's pretty easy to do. OK.. download the list of channels that you have from the gtools file to be exactly same as on your DD lineup. Remove any radio channels from there as they might cause the list to be a LLLOOOOONNNGG one.. Why listen to Sirius thru TV when you can hook up a Sirius Receiver ?.. OK.now.. rename the channel nos of the gtools file to be the same as that of the channel itself. Now this cannot be done using gtools i believe. So you use anothe rprogram called cmsetup_1_0_9 (Channel Master Edition) which can make further enhancements to the gtools file. Remmeber that the Pansat 2500a needs channels starting from 1,2,3.. and so on.. Sono matter you have rename dthe channel nos but your Pansat will still map them as channel 1,2,3.. So this program i.e cmsetup_1_0_9 also called Channel Master Edition has an option called "FIll Up The Missing Channels". Just click on it and let the xponder or satellite be anything.. doesn't matter.. Now say OK.. It'll fill up the missing channels as NO CHANNEL. So that way now when you remap/burn this gtools file on the Pasat 2500a all your DISH lineups are ready to rock 'n roll.. Since it's 1:45 a.m so I won't write up a whole detailed procedure right now. Hope all the Pansat 2500a users know what I've been babbling above.

RXMAN.. let me know if you need any files from me. I've my Pansat 2500a and my Replay TV in synch right now as we speak and works beautifully with the IR code 2000.

sudhs

is there a way to view the WiRNs log file in real time if the application is already running? From the icon in the tray it looks like the log file can be viewed however it does not continue to show activity in real-time.
