I purchased a Samsung TXP3064W under the belief that it supported 720p - which it doesn't. This is a combination of Samsung not even listing the TV on their web site and the unsupported resolutions not being stated in the manual (it only mentions 480i,480p,1080i in the entire manual). I'm going to exchange it for a tv that does support 720p (and preferably 540p) so I can play PC games at a comfortable progressive-scan resoluon using the ATI DVI-Component adapter. My budget for a CRT model is $1100, and if I have to, a rear projection model.
I'd recommend the Sony 30HS420 at under $1000.

same here, but i don't think you will get one for $1000, maybe the 30" but not the 34".

The 30" looks like the best bang/buck for me - it has HDMI and supports 720p. Since it natively supports DVI >> HDMI adapters (In case I put an nVidia card in my HTPC in the future), will there be any issues with HDMI's DRM preventing HTPC's from connecting?

Is this Sony model the best in the $1000 category for use with an HTPC?

What happens when you try to feed a 720P signal to this TV that doesn't support it?

If the TV doesn't support a 720p at all - you would get a blank screen.
