Bestbuy has this for half a grand. For the price its the best deal for a HD monitor that I have come across. Well the Advent 27" HD is cheap, but for $100 I'd go with the Samsung.

But does anyone know anything about the Samsung TX-P2764? Bestbuy didnt have it hooked up to a HD signal so it didnt look great. But for the price I might pick it up and test it out.

BTW, for this TV what is the best HDTV receiver that I could get for this? Well... what's the cheapest way I could receive and HD signal with this television?

Thanks

should have a built in reciever. Just plug in an antenna. Or, call samsung and have them upgrade the firmware on the QAM tuner

Does anyone see any down sides to this TV?

BTW what is a QAM tuner?

And I just guessed that it didnt have a reciever because at the store it was called "Samsung TX-P2764 HDTV Monitor". Even on Samsung's site they say "Digital TV High Definition Monitor 1080i Capable Display".

Thanks for the reply!

This set does not have a Built-In HDTV Tuner (QAM) & I wonder what the "X" at the end of the model number stands for? This could be a set that Samsung is building just for Best Buy. If your looking for a low price HDTV also check out the 27" Magnavox on Circuit City's website for $414.00 & it seems to be getting some pretty good customer reviews on the site.

I just did a quick check on the Samsung "X" (Probably stands for Discount Model) & it doesn't have a DVI Input like the "Regular" Samsung "64" if that makes a difference to you but I've found on the Panasonic & JVC "Discount" models that they use cheaper parts from Korea in them compared to the "Regular" Line & most of the time the "Regular" lines can be had for the same price as the "Discount" lines if you fight with the stores
that carry the "Regular" Line. I'm not saying the "X" model isn't a good set because maybe it's exactly the same as the "Regular" one minus the DVI Input, but it could also have cheaper parts & a cheaper Power Supply in it & for $500 I would fight with a store that carries the Regular "64" & see if you can get it for $500. Just my 2 cents :D

I was only going by the specs. that BB posted but I can tell you this, that "X" at the end of the model number means something. It is possible though that it is exactly the same as the Regular "64" & Samsung only put an "X" after it so other stores would'nt have to Price Match it or be screaming at Samsung about how can BB sell the set for that price. Just some food for thought & find out what that "X" means because there is a reason for it & I din't want to see you or anyone get screwed if there is a difference. Funny they don't have a picture of it yet on BB's website because the "64" has been out for awhile.

I was just going to post this same question. Looks like a decent TV for a small chunk of change. I couldn't find any definitive specs on it though, and of course ... no reviews either. Does anybody know about this model?

BB does have a 12% coupon sent out to customers via snail mail for the 10th-14th. They'll probably raise the price back up to MSRP, but the 12% coupon will effectively bring it down lower than today's sale price. Something to consider to defray taxes and shipping (if you are shipping that is).

I've seen an HD signal thrown at it (in the local BB); in fact, it's one of my *backup choices* if prices sneak back north on my primary choices (30" Philips for about $800 and a 32" Toshiba for about $900).

The primary reason I'm looking this small is that it's a bedroom set for a small bedroom (mine); I'll still have the biggest screen in the house.

Pluses: Will only need a STB if Comcast scrambles HD or Digital Classic (already have one digital STB elsewhere in the house and I would be glad NOT to need another one); supports dual YPbPr inputs *and* DVI, along with a separate component input.

Minuses: Will still need STB for scrambled content, OnDemand, and HD premiums (example, HBO HDTV), smaller screen size.

Decisions, decisions...

In fact, *yes*, it does. (It's the smallest-size set at BB that does, in fact. So that isn't it!)

The 27" Mag (built by Philips) is NOT a widescreen set (BB has a slightly smaller (26") Advent that they are selling for less). Worse, like the Advent, it doesn't support QAM directly either (you need an STB with either set).

I don't know about you, but I find watching rescaled widescreen content distressful, distasteful, and just plain *sique*. It's why I buy widescreen DVD movies whenever I can (and why I bought a progressive-scan DVD player for myself last year). It's also why I find watching SportsCenter (in SD) painful (after seeing it in its full HD glory in two *different* BBs, on several different HDTVs, from CRTs to HD plasmas). (You heard me: ESPN actually makes something as *boring* as SportsCenter better in HD than in SD; I'm not saying that it's bad in SD, but when you've seen SportsCenter on ESPN-HD, on an HD display with a good-to-excellent PQ, you'll get it.)

It's why I would *love* to see a side-by-side shootout between two identical HD sets with the same content, but with one showing SD, and one showing HD (actually, ESPN and ESPN HD make it possible, as ESPN and ESPN-HD oftne carry the same program at the same time).

Best Buy, WAKE UP! If you're REALLY serious about showing (and selling) HDTV, do the side-by-side shootout!

I just purchased the Samsung TX-P2764X from BB and am very happy so far. Excellent picture quality, especially for XBox, widescreen looks great as well. I wanted a more "intimate" experience with games as apposed to the 76" screen from my projector that XBox was hooked to before! (Projector is for movies only now!) SD TV looks great, much better than the 20" SD Sony that I got for the bedroom a few months ago.

To clear a few things up:

First the "X" appears to mean nothing, just a BB thing because there is no X on my TV, the box, or the manual.

Second, it does NOT have a HD tuner like its 32" big brother.

Finally, it DOES have a DVI connection.

All in all, a great buy for the money, only found an APEX cheaper!
