You know the tune...
All I want for Christmas is a free ReplayTV (with activation)... :)
I need more for development purposes for WiRNS (ya know, one of the proggies that helps sell ReplayTVs).
I bought my 5504 because of Wirns... Are there any promos to help us hungry developers out? :)
Anyone else think so?

Good luck. Doubt you will find / get anything since ReplayTV does not benefit from any development of WiRNS - it really does not help sell new Replay Units. Marketing would though, and I havent't seen any of that for a LONG time.

I really can't imagine DNNA handing out a free RTV to anyone developing 3rd party software from them. No one that does so, as far as I know, has ever received one.

Always worth a try.. :)
1 replay is never enough!
Does Lyndon even show up here anymore?

Not since the beginning (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=476734) of the month it seems. So as of this post, 20 days ago.
I haven't seen any sign of Lyndon in a while... I also seem to think something bad happened at the beginning of December. I think Lyndon himself has been layed off twice before in late November/early December. I hope this isn't the case again. But, the company has a proven track record. =(
BTW, if anyone has deserved to get free equipment it would be Gerry and he's hasn't received anything.... I'd say it looks bleak.

No boudt adout it.:p :p
I don't think it would have benefited Sonic Blue to give Gerry a freebie, but recall that a lot of members here offered to chip in to provide Gerry with one. Cool! Gerry, to his credit, refused. Cooler still.
Generosity and principle. What an interesting forum.

No, I haven't been layed off.
And, while I visit, I don't have nearly as much time as I used to have to post.

Interesting that he doesn't have time to post ;) Things happening at DNNA?
Does anyone know if DNNA will be at the Consumer Electronics Show? Is there a list of company names anywhere?
Nice to hear your still employeed Lyndon. At least it should make for a nice Christmas.... oops, better not speak too soon, there's still 2 full shopping days till Christmas.

I've just sent Lyndon a Private Message regarding a really strange 5040 problem (this makes the duplicate ISN problem seem trivial). I just wanted to put this message to the top to make sure Lyndon sees it.

Someone want to start a new thread with a POLL, and see if get enough interest, we could get a few for all the guys developing custom software for us ReplayTV users?
Just a thought...
These offers are ridiculous. Even IF I wanted to join and complete and complete an offer there is NO WAY I could convince 5 other people to 1) go to the trouble 2) take a chance 3) want to 4) trust me OR trust them 5) OR think this these offers sound "fishy" to them
Any one of the above is enough to keep me from getting my free product and is just a waste of my time and expectations. Frankly, I think I would just rather pay for one, darn the things can be had practically for nothing now a days.

Not to be rude, but I think you would be much better off to call support if there is an issue and not try to work through Lyndon who is admittedly busy. If everyone started sending a "can you look into this" or "Do that" request, he will never come back.
I spent about 2 hours on the phone with SFHUB yesterday trying to figure out why IVS doesn't work with my 5040. SFHUB was involved because I have one of the duplicate ISN machines. For some reason the patch from SFHUB to change my ISN wouldn't work with my machine.
After some relatively deep tracing, we figured out that my 5040 is accessing a different RDDNS server than most everyone else. Most users get their guide data from the "production.replaytv.net" server pool, while my machine is being served by "blue.replaytv.net" pool. Just for fun we swapped out the hard drive with a fresh factory image, and the same problem happens. My machine calls home to the "normal" server, then it gets redirected to the "blue" server after the mother ship asks for my serial number. The end result is my ISN gets registered with the wrong RDDNS server, so I cannot POOPLI with everyone else. This also is stopping me from accessing MYREPLAYTV with this machine. Otherwise the machine works fine, and interacts well with my DVARCHIVE and other 5XXX machines.
SFHUB's best guess is that I somehow have recieved a unit that was configured to be part of a BETA test group. Hubert recalled that the "blue" servers were the beta-test servers. Just for kicks we setup a temporary proxy server to reroute the BLUE traffic from my 5040 to the PRODUCTION server. The PRODUCTION server responded that my machine needs to be activated! I already have lifetime activation on this machine, so I don't care to see that message! We turned off the proxy reroute and my 5040 was happily subscribed again.
I have searched every ReplayTV site I know of looking for any references to these "blue" servers. As far as I can tell, this problem has never shown up on any of the boards before. I believe I have a rather unique problem.
We discussed this "problem" and came to the conclusion that this would be too bizarre for the normal tech support channels. I can't imagine how to begin this conversation with the folks answering the phone. First of all, I have the duplicate ISN problem, which they continue to ignore. I can only imagine a "deer in the headlights" response when I try to tell them that my machine is playing in the wrong sandbox. We really think this is a problem that needs Lyndon's delicate touch.
Ed
I added a few details about my strange 5040 problem yesterday and there have been no comments! I doubt anybody in the normal AVSForum can touch this. :p
Please understand that I'm not some newbie who is afraid the sky is falling. My original AVSForum userid (japi) got messed up a long time ago about the same time I spent a year in the hospital. I just recently got back into the AVSForum, but I was one of the original ShowStopper hackers. Here are some of my earlier contributions:
http://rtvpatch.sourceforge.net/dualdrive.html
http://rtvpatch.sourceforge.net/utility.html
Look for "japi" in the archives, and you are seeing me. I spent a lot of time working with "toots" when this hobby was just getting started. Robman, L8er, and seanriddle were real heavy into it at that time also.
Anyway, I don't raise the flag for Lyndon casually. This "blue" server for my 5040 is a royal pain in the but that would blow the minds of the normal first level ReplayTV tech support. No offense to the ReplayTV employees is intended. This is not what one would expect them to deal with on a daily basis.
Ed , aka Nded, aka japi :)
nded, that's strange about blue, I would have guessed (without any reason to do so) that that box is serial numbered for some sort of testing. And like you and sfhub speculated that blue is a beta or development server.
The next option you may have is to request the TS guys check your SN against the lists they have for test/development units. That may be your best option.
Good luck.
