Just got a new player, so I'm recalibrating.
Is there any rule of thumb for choosing color temp of the set? (Direct view 32" CRT.)
If I look at the default settings, Toshiba offers:
warm for the "movie" setting
medium for "standard" (normal TV)
cool for "sports" (more dynamic and brighter TV)
I have been using "warm", but just thought I'd check around. Thanks!
Warm pushes red
Cool pushes blue.
Medium is natural.
I use medium.
Select movie mode initially and then adjust preferences from there. Medium is a good choice for color temperature.

But "movie" mode is "warm". See my confusion? :)
An ISF tech told me that Toshiba says that warm is closest to 6500K.
What I might try is to calibrate both ways, warm then medium, and see what looks better. I can also use Avia's method to look for the amounts of red, green, and blue push to get a quantitative measure of the differences. With warm, blue and green are pretty centered, but red is pushed maybe +10%.
Once you select movie mode you can change any of the settings and then save the new preference. Selecting movie mode turns off SVM, so always start there.

I did finally get across to a Toshiba customer service support person what I was after. He did confirm that "warm" was the best setting for calibration.
