Sorry to post such a broad question, but we're in need of a new tv, and i have no idea where to start. I'd like not to spend days researching this if at all possible. Anyway, we're in need of a new tv for cable tv, dvd's and divx off of the htpc. Can you guys give me a starting point of tvs to look at? Any sales info would be greatly appreciated as well.
Thanks,
Mark
That price is right on the verge of HDTV.

The question is too broad to answer . . . .
Does the HTPC require a TV to have certain features or inputs?
Do you want the TV to be analog or HD-ready?
What screen size do you want?
Do you want a 4:3 or a 16:9 format?
How far from the screen will your eyeballs be?

well he definitely wants HD ready if doing HTPC
just be ready to have the computer close to the TV
DVI cable is expensive (check out Ram electronics)
(unless your video card can do component output)
if not going to buy the DVI cable or use a video card with component
there is not a whole alot of reason to get HDTV ready
you could do HD ready still though
just seems like it would be better if you could at least use the extra resolution if you are going to pay for it
but buying HD ready at least should be preferred since they are somewhat reasonable these days
if watching alot of DVDs and such the 16:9 format would be better

Not to knock you or anything mark, but maybe you should consider taking the time to research so that you know the pros and cons of the tvs. Plus youll learn a thing or two. If you dont your most likely going to be dissapointed, or surprised with something. Take the time research and look at various displays, models, and brands and start to make your decision.
