Help. I have a new Pio 504CMX with a Aurora A304-HDCP card in it. I have a Samsung TS160 hooked up to the DVI slot on the Aurora 304 card.

Everything was looking good with the display until last night when I turned to channel 240 on DirecTV to test the HDCP-DVI Input. At first, I got the message from DirecTV that I could not watch the chanel w/o a HDCP-compliant input. Then, I clicked "ok" on the screen (the only option) and the screen turned to white fuzz. After I switched channels, and then back to chanel 240, I did not get the error message (and could watch the station), but the real problem was now there:

When I have the input on my display set to "Full 1035i", there is a 1/2 inch column (vertical bar) of static permanently displayed on the right side of the display. The static bar is not there in the "Full 1080i" or "Wide" formats. Does anybody know what I did to make this static bar appear, and how can I get rid of it?

I have already tried to disconnect and reconnect the DVI connection. I have also turned the main power to the display on/off. Neither has worked. Please help.

Marshall88,

Between the 504's integrator menu and/or the 304's menus you can move the picture over to the right (or left if need be) to get rid of the "stuff".

There also is a centering fix for the 160. Check your manual. If you can't find the answer there find the 160 thread in HD Equipment forum.

Don't worry, your problem can be fixed easily.

Lew

btw, does your 304 card have the digital upgrade? If not do you know when you can expect to get it?

Thanks lewlew, that worked. I moved the picture over from a horizontal position of 64 to a horizontal position of 88, and the static bar was gone. Curiously, I kept moving the picture to the right to see if I could get a static bar on the left side of the screen. I went all the way to a horizontal position of 180, but it never happened. Apparently, there must be a lot of the picture in 1035i that is not fitting onto my screen.

I don't know what you mean by the "digital upgrade" to the A304 card. I called Aurora and they also did not know what this meant. They did tell me that the latest firmware upgrade is 1.13, and, when I get home, I will check to see if my card has this upgrade (it is located on the "miscellaneous" menu function).

I'm not entirely sure, but I believe 1035i is for Japanese HDTV, and you should be using 1080i anyway.

My Pioneer 503-CMX default setting was 1035i which I thought was odd. That mode tends to elongate people and chop off information with 1080i component signal from my sat receiver. I don't really understand why the factory default is 1035i especially since you have to go into double-top-secret mode to fix it. I suspect that there are alot of people who run it in the default 1035i mode. On the other hand perhaps Pioneer "bothers" to set it correctly for their commercial line.

Yes, I think you want 1080i. Ran into the same thing with my 433CMX.

I have a TVP-1000+ which has overscan control. I would guess the 304 does too? That would let you zoom out a bit to see the whole picture, but keep in mind that most programming assumes a little overscan.

It defaults wrong becaue sometimes Long Beach and Japan don't entirely communicate, I believe.

Marshall88,

Way back in the dark ages of the A303 and 503CMX (this is what I have) the Aurora cards output an analog signal to the 503CMX as analog was all they would accept. The A304 fits the 503CMX and originally IIRC only output an analog signal.

The holy grail of the future (as seen from 6/03) was to be the 504CMX accepting a digital signal from the Aurora cards. The A304 was supposed to get an upgrade to pass a digital signal directly to the 504CMX and the PQ we were told was "twice as good" as the A303/503 combination.

So, I will ask the question a little differently: Is your A304 outputting a digital or analog signal and how do you know this?
