HD DVR question

Can someone tell me (or links in this forum, I can't find any useful tread for begineers) which HD DVR I should get? I wonder if the file on the harddisk can be backup as transport stream and played on PC?

We need to know where you are located in order to give you specific information. For example, you can buy a DVR in Canada, but as far as I know you can only buy satelite capable recorders here in the USA. Cable systems lease the DVR and there are few options of what you will get from your cable co. Info. please???

Yes, I am in USA and using dishnetwork, no problem to swith to directtv if needed; and no I don't use cable..
