Hi,
This is my first post,I've just bought a home theatre and am wondering about one of the connection problems I'm having.

I have the 42 inch Sony Grand Wega with HDMI,Sony HDMI Upconvert DVD Player with HDMI,Voom with DVI.I bought Monster HDMI to DVI Cable for the Wega to the Voom Receiver. But how do I connect the HDMI Dvd Player, when I have only one HDMI connection on my TV?I've seen the adapter from Gefen but it's a little to pricey for me.Is there another way?
Thanks guys,hope you can help.:)

The Gefen is one of the few HDMI switches I know about, but some other folks might have other ideas.

Also, take those Monster cables back. They are overpriced, only of moderate quality (that's being generous), and (at least the analog stuff) can damage your equipment because they are such a tight fit. Check out some other places to get better cables like Blue Jeans Cables (http://www.bluejeanscables.com). I have been *VERY* happy with the cables I got from them. I'm sure others will point you to their favorite non-Monster cable places too.

And just by way of example, Best Buy has a 6ft Monster HDMI cable for $129. Blue Jeans Cable has a 6ft HDMI cable for $36. If you return all those over priced Monster cables you have, you can probably afford to buy the Gefen HDMI switch. :D

The other thing you could do is just use component cables for the DVD player. DVDs are all 480i/p anyway, so upconverting them just to shove the output out the HDMI port isn't going to gain you any quality over the component cables.

I agree with pkscout. Unless you have long runs of 15meters or more the quality of the HDMI or DVI cable is less important. Monster cables are not a good bang for the buck ratio. Blue Jean is of similar quality, but is much cheaper.

On the input issue, your only option is a switcher. Sometimes switchers will come up in the used market for less. Like in my situation, I have a new 2 input HDMI switcher and a used 4 input DVI switcher. I'm thinking of selling both and buying a 4 input HDMI switcher. A new 2 input HDMI would sell for $250. A used one would sell for $175-$200...again it depends on how long then been out and is it something that is reaily available on the used market.
