I would like to mix my own 5.1 recording using various sources I have that are not 5.1.

I have an audigy2 which can record at 96/24.

Can I encode to MLP or DTS or DD when I am done?

What software can do this?

Surcode CD Pro DTS is one.

surcode is only for encoding, you'd need cool edit, audcity or some other program that allows for multiple audio output channels

Adobe Audition 1.5 is what I use. Adobe bought Syntrillium (CEPro) and added a lot of goodies including a 5.1 mixer that lets you mix on the fly in real time! Then, it will create your 5.1 channels based on your mix and label them FL, FR, SL, SR, C and LFE. Then you can drop those into SurCode and burn your new 5.1 mix. I love it. :)

I like Logic Platinum 7 but I think it might be Mac only...

Do any of these tools allow you to create a discrete 5.1 mix?

By this I mean could you for example extract the keyboard track and move it into the SL and/or SR ?

I use Cubase SX to create my multichannel mix and then use Vegas Video to encode to DD. I do 5.0 mixes as I haven't the time nor energy to properly work an LFE into the equation. Nuendo is a good program also.
