View Full Version : Any one else (in canada) have shaw cable?
My family has shaw cable, i've been trying to convince them to go to expressVu, but anyhow, the sound quality on the analog channels has been so bad, like:
out of phase completely on some channels, noise reduction on one the transmitting end but not on on the reciving end, L+R played back as L and L-R played back as R,
recently i have set the cable box to "MONO" seemed to fix most of that crap. Both shaw and the CRTC have been no help at all. Are the service's in the states simaler to this? What else could I do to fix this sh*t?

Get a StarChoice 315 receiver ($99 installed - with a $50 PPV credit to boot). This is a DD5.1 satellite receiver
but StarChoice is owned my shaw, thus i don't want it, plus i think the PQ is worst than expressVu

....StarChoice/Cancom use multiple uplinks to provide 1st generation signal on many channels....
....ExpressVu only has one uplink....they pick many signals off the Cancom feeds...and then send them up to the Nimiqs....thus a 2nd generation signal.
Starchoice has (I believe) only one sat while Expressvu uses 3 (the 2 Nimiq plus some transponders from a US sat). I don't think you get as good programming choices either. I have Expressvu while my Bud has Starchoice. He says that they seem to have fixed some problems like excessive pixellation on some transponders but he doesn't necessarily like his program choices.
My mother has Shaw cable but its mostly used to put her to sleep at night (ie. noise). They are having a free month of channels but unlike years gone by, it's only on the digital channels requiring me to blow another $70 on a box. We also have Shaw Internet service but I have lots of connect and speed problems. When I phone to get status reports and make connection problem complaints, I get another city as they no longer have a tech line in our own. I would have to drive to the local office (about 10 minutes away from me) to get local service. I'm a less than happy camper with Shaw but until Bell starts to get on demand TV through the telephone lines, I guess I'll have to stick it out...
