Hey all,

I am starting the process of getting my HDP set up and calibrated....as of this moment I have yet to really even "turn it on"....I spent the first two hours after getting it into my equipment rack and everything hooked into it troubleshooting a problem with my Universal Remote Control.

After a few hours I noticed that the problem was coming from the HDP....On a whim, I unplugged my HDP and my problem went away...I plugged in the HDP and the problem came around again....so, here are some details.

I have a Home Theater Master Remote...IR and RF and it comes with a "base station" where you plug remote "eyes" to attach to each componant. There are two lights on the base station...a power light and a status light...the status light is off, unless you are sending it a comand.

I noticed that the status light was flickering, like a button on the remote was being pushed...but none was...I moved the base station around and saw then when I was about 3 feet away from the HDP the status light stopped flickering and the closer I got, the faster it would flicker and eventually stay on 100% at about 1 foot.

So, the question is...what is the HDP emitting? It is sending out some signal, I assume a tiny RF signal...anyone have any idea what this signal is????

IF you have a digital camera with a LCD Display, you might be able to see if the remote is sending out a signal when its not suppose to. That would be my guess.

The Lumagen reomote? And how would I check that with a digital camera? And if that were the case, why would the remote stop sending the signal when I unplug the Lumagen...I would think the remote sending a signal is not dependent on the remote activity?

Sounds like RF emitted from the Lumagen is being accepted as RF input to the base station. You might try grounding the case of the Lumagen--it might act as more of a Faraday shield and cut down the RF emissions. Also see if whether video cables being connected to the Lumagen affect the RF emissions. If yes, perhaps better shielded cables or ferrite cores on those cables might help with the RF emissions.

Otherwise, do you need the RF functionality in the base station? If not, is there any way to disable it?

1920x1080's suggestions are good ones. It's also possible it could be a ground loop. Try plugging our power supply into a cheater plug or grounding the case works as well. We do pass FCC & CE emission standards for RF. Send us a note at support@lumagen.com if there's anything we can help with.

The HDP is FCC compliant. And that means that it was tested in a chamber where they tested for unusal levels of interference. They also test using spectrum analyzers to detect what (if any) frequency that interference is operating in.

When the unit receives it's approval, the amount (if any) radiated interference would not be detected by any known radio or television device. However, there are other non-standard receivers in operation that could detect the slightest operational frequency of any electronic device.

From my experience with this, the problem would more likely be the design of the remote unit, and not the HDP....a good reciever not only receives well, but it should also rejects well.

Indeed. Not only should a compliant device not interfere with other compliant devices in its class, but it should also be able to withstand any RF emissions from other compliant devices in its class.
