I am totally new to front projection home theatre and have a few questions I am hoping someone can help with.
I am attempting to build our home theatre in our family room. It will have to be multiuse and cannot be completed sealed off from light. (we usually have at least one light on but usually on a dimmer. We mostly watch HDTV tv at night and an occasional movie on the weekends. We have a small tv for watching the morning news, etc. The room is approx 15 x 14 with 10 foot ceilings. I will have to project from the other end of the room (15' end).
I am wondering if its even feasable to consider this room (I have no other room to use). I have calculated that the bottom of my screen will have to be approx 48 inches from the floor and projected onto the wall behind our couch (we have two theatre style chairs on the other wall) I plan to have a in-wall speaker between the top of the couch and the bottom of the screen. Do you think the screen will be too tall. I have also thought about acoustically transparent screens but haven't really heard good things aboutt them. My goal is to have an approx. 90 or 100 diag. screen.
I plan to have an electric screen and am considering using a Sony HS51 for projector although it looks like its throw distance will mean that I will have to place it on a table at about 13' from the wall. I am a little concerned with the light output for the HS51.....
Hopefully this makes sense. Please let me know if you have any recommendations. I am very limited with what I can do with the room. We initially looked at a rear projection screen but it just wont fit in the room at the size needed to actually enjoy home theatre.....plus the WAF......plus the wife saw a projection screen and now really wants one (I guess I am lucky in that respect as compared to getting a rear projection;)
Many thanks for any help you can provide. Seeing everything that everyone has built is an inspiration.
