Sony LCD Displays

I was curious of what people though about the Sony 32 and 42in LCD Displays. Specifically FWD-32LX1S and FWD42LX1S


I was offered some extremely aggressive pricing on one of each of these and bought one of each of them figuring I'd replace my older 30in tube and 55in Mitsubishi projection tv. However in moving out my tube tv, I threw out my back so it might be a week or two before I can get the LCD's hooked up, so I thought I'd check here and see what the general consensus is on these units. They don't have TV tuners build in, but since I use HD PVR/Cable boxes from Time Warner, which include DVI ports, I figure that shouldn't be a big deal. They also have BNC/Component, and HD15 Component type connections, as well as SVHS for what that's worth.

These would mainly be for watching cable and movies, not really for gaming.

Wow now I'm a bit scared, are the models very obscure? Or do most people just prefer plasma?

24 hours, during the week, is usually at least a somewhat reasonable guage of people's knowledge.

I assume these are the non-XBR models? I've only seen the smaller one. It looked alright. I would not have a problem buying an LCD from Sony, with the proviso that I've not spent any time with these sets outside of one audition of the 32-inch.

sorry Rogo, just laid up on the sofa with the back out looking at these things propped against my wall wishing they were mounted so I could see them firsthand, so perhaps I'm a bit anxious. It's a slightly frustrating experience to have them so close to hand and not be able to see the picture, lol. They do not have XBR I don't believe, they have WEGA and block smoothing.

I bought them without seeing them (tax reasons, needed to be done by Dec 31st) and without even being able to pull specs as the opportunity came up right at the end of December and their manuals were/are not posted on Sony's site nor would anyone at Sony be available until January to assist. That's why I was looking for firsthand experiences with them since I now have them onhand. They are professional presentation models, not consumer tv's, hence me being a bit unsure, and documentation being a bit lacking.

Well got them mounted up on the wall, only to find I can't interface through DVI to them from Time Warner HD DVR Boxes, so I'm suck running component to BNC, but the picture looks good. I haven't been able to fully hook up everything yet, but once I manage to get it all hooked up will update with more information.

So they are monitors and don't take TV resolutions over DVI I guess. That happens a lot with monitors.

Actually after some digging it appears that the Time Warner HD DVR Boxes DVI port is disabled, though it is due for a firmware upgrade first quarter to allow for DVI output, at which point it should be able to sync up. Not a display issue, rather a Cable Company equipment issue.
