Hello:

I am in the same boat as many of you have been at one time or other.
I own an Infocus X1 and am very happy with it, I use it for watching DVD only and its more than capable for that task.
Now I am in the market for a "family room TV". With more and more prog available in HD, I think its time to get a HDTV me and my family can enjoy all the time.
So I am asking you to share your experiences and reasoning for buying a CRT instead of a LCD or DLP big screen.
Here is where I am right now:

- Size is not as important, since our front projector has a 84" screen and we get the "big screen" experience watching DVDs.
- The family room is small , the room has a 27" Sony which kinda does the job, anything like a 32" 4:3 would be very nice(or a 34" 16:9)
- Reliability is a factor I am seriously thinking about the CRTs.
- HDMI connections are important, as I plan to get a set top HD receiver (or a HD DVR) as soon as I get the TV.
- and finally the price...Well I would like to stay with in 1000-1200 mark, but that can be pushed a bit if needed.

Hopefully this gives you guys an idea of where I stand and what I am looking for.

Thank you.

If getting above 34" is not a priority, IMO the CRT is a no-brainer. Nothing else in that size range can touch the CRT's PQ. Excellent motion performance, deep blacks, extensive color pallette etc. In that size range the CRT IMO is still the undisputed king.

Well, to begin with, even if you add another $3-400 to your price range crt is the ONLY option. You need $2,500 to $3,500 and more for the lcd and dlp projection sets, depending upon size. The smaller plasmas, including the ed sets, are also out of your price range and so are the middle size lcd direct views.

So unless you plan on doubling your price range, you are going to buy a crt. If you have 3k plus to spend, then you have some choosing to do. For $1500 range I would look at the 34" toshiba and 34" JVC.
