A friend of mine is using a PS2 to play DVD's, but can't seem to configure the thing to put out the "enhanced" or "anamorphic" 16:9 format, which his widescreen TV will display correctly. He can, of course, get the letterboxed output, at lower picture quality. I'm not at all familiar with the PS2; can anyone tell me how to set it up right?
You need to go into the DVD menu and set the option.

OK, but can you give me a little more detail? My friend found his way to a menu that presented options that looked like "4:3 Full 16:9". But whichever one he selected, he got a 16:9 picture letterboxed within a 4:3 frame. Was this the right menu? Did he have to click on something special after selecting the item in order to make the selection take hold?
Thanks,
Poethius
you have to acces the setup menu with a DVD stoped, hit select, you'll figure it out from there.

What DVD are you playing? Are you sure the DVD you're trying to play back isn't a Letterbox DVD? You'll need an Anamorphic DVD to make sure it's outputting correctly.

We tried a couple of them, both marked "enhanced for 16:9 playback" or something like that. We'll try again. Thanks, all!

Thanks, guys! I think I have enough info now to go over and help my friend get this to work. If I run into a problem, I'll be back in touch.
