i want to make htpc to be media center. DVD playback is one of the benefit of HTPC. I want to sent the signal to my projector (IF 4805) which already has farouja chip in it.I am noe use normal dvd to send signal through component to the projector and let farouja does it magic. As i have learnt that farouja do abetter jobs in deinterlace. My question is that will sending signal via DVI port from HTPC give a better picture than my old set up and it what area?

The HTPC will give a sharper picture since you can scale to whatever resolution you want, or just sharpen it more. I tried watching the Indy Jones DVDs on my Xbox to my 4805 but the picture is just too soft, it really bugged me. The HTPC remedied this. One thing I always thought the Faroudja processor would be king in is the overall natural look of the image. After toying the NVDVD decoders + NVPP I think the gap has really narrowed between the two.

The Faroudja will do a better job deinterlacing cable TV. De-interlacing properly flagged DVDs isn't that hard so an HTPC handle it just about as good as the Faroudja.

Completely agree with Scotty L. I got my 4805 hooked up to a pixel-mapped HTPC with TheaterTek 2.0 and just added ffdshow last week. The pq is night and day compared to DVD player at 480i (although 480i is still quite impressive).

But HTPC aren't very good at video de-interlacing, so it's a good thing we still have faroudja.

My advice is that if you are a videophile and really like messing aroung with PCs, go for it. But if you are happy with what you are looking at and don't want to mess with decoders, drivers, etc, grab some Thai beer and enjoy your 4805!
