Sirius signal reception problem

I have a very interesting problem. I installed a Sirius Satellite radio at work. The antenna is mounted on the roof pointed to the correct direction. During the morning, I get perfect reception, 3 bars on the unit, at noon time, it drops to one bar, by early afternoon, the signal will sometimes fade for a few minutes at a time. By late afternoon and early evening, it goes back to 2 or 3 bars.
My home unit more or less has the same problem. The antenna is also roof mounted. It goes from full strength to weak to full thru out the day.

FYI, work unit is an Audiovox, home unit is an Antex.

I have called Sirius regarding this matter but they have no solution at all.

Does anyone else have this problem or know of a solution?

With Sirius there is no such thing as the 'correct direction' when it comes to the home antennas..Their birds move...Most people who do have luck with their home install say north is the best,but even then if both their birds move out of the north direction you might lose the signal for alittle while..

Try north and let us know....

The signal level will change over time because the satellites are in a figure 8 orbit. There may be some obstruction that blocks the signal a certain time of day. Look here (http://www.siriusbackstage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18888) to see the orbits.

Presently it is pointing to the north. I have tried NW and S. S was even worse.

There is no obstruction at all for me just clear skies. I am wondering if I should get a better antenna for it

Try pointing to the North East. The satellites reach their northern most point above north central Canada.

I am sorry when I said I tried NW, I meant I tried the NE. But my house antenna is set to NE. Same thing. It is very annoying.

I had XM. That had no problems at all. I preferred the programming on Sirius so I changed. In fact I have their liftime subscription too.

Try a non directional Sirius car antenna...Check to see if the plugs are the same on the docking units first,but if they are maybe having a non directional antenna will give you better luck..


You didn't have this problem with XM because XM's birds don't move,they are always in the southern sky...

I wonder if it would be possiable to splice two Sirius antenna into one line? That way you could have one pointing NE and the other south. Anyone know about doing this type of thing?

It almost would be better to put up a marine antenna or car antenna like barbie845 said ... I wonder which on is better

Funny thing I have realized too is that the XM antenna works on Sirus radios and vice versa. Exact same connections too.

I guess I am lucky there are ground repeaters in my area. I arranged my reception to where it is the best of each, the bars go up and down, but I never lose connectivity at home. My Alpine unit in my Pick Up never goes out either. I am 10 minutes outside of Philly.

I ordered the Terk Sir-6 to see if that will do a better job.

My signal was fading in and out this morning...in the car. About every fifth fade out, it would say "Acquiring Signal". I was driving around, so there was no obstacles. I double-checked the cable to the anteanna and it was good. What could be the problem?

Certainly not a night and day difference. By this I mean when using both at the exact same location.
