View Full Version : Are 5580/ 5040 Harddrive Interchangeable?
I have a question about switching harddrives between a 5580 and a 5040. I have both these models and was thinking about putting the 80 gig harddrive in the 5040 cause it has the commercial skip and ivs. Could I do this without reimaging the drives or is the software that is on the harddrives specific to the unit. I was basically wondering if i could just swap the drives or if there was more work involved. Thanks

Yes you will be able to swap the drives as you described. After you do it, you can do a 3-8-2 Zones factory reset to clean everything up and it should work fine.
Factory reset will clean everything out, but you may be satisfied with
just doing a "net connect" which will update the activation info and
keep your settings intact.

ps - does dmb stand for the band?
Thanks for the info. Its helpful. I figure since everyone always talks about the advantages of the 5000 series I may want to put the bigger harddrive in that one. I just bought it today, a unused 5040 refurb probably from when they were clearing them out a bit ago. Hopefully I have no problems with it.
PS; yes dmb does stand for the bad. I'm a big fan

Drives are so cheap right now, I suggest that you think about getting a 160 or 250 gb drive, reimaging it with your PC or mac (it's easy) and slapping it in the 5040. Then you can record everything on medium and not worry about space.

RobDMB - Good move picking up that "5040" on ebay, that was an excellent deal - about 10 minutes slower and it would have been coming my way. :)
