I have a replay 5500 that I bought back in December, from the first day that I got it I had issues with the remote. The batteries would never stay in place inside the remote due to faulty springs. Anyway today the remote just died on me, I can't control my TV or the Replay. I replaced the batteries with no results, I even used my Universal remote to test the Replay to make sure it could take commands. So I''m left with the conclusion that the remote is dead. I went out to the ReplayTV site but I did'nt see any where to purchase replacement remotes. Does anyone know if they sell them?

I don't see it listed on the website anymore, so you can either:

1) Buy a replacement on ebay for around $40-$50 (ReplayTV brand)

2) Buy a third-party remote on ebay that's been programmed with ReplaytV codes, or from a place like this:

3) Enter the wonderfuld world of JP-1

Or you can buy the Phillips / Magnovox 8-in-ONE remote (PMDVR8), which will natively support all ReplayTV Remote functions.

I know this is a stupid question, but do any of the suggested remotes control both the Replay and the TV without the need for pressing the device button? That's one thing I really liked about the Replay remote.

You can also order a ShowStopper remote from Panasonic (They were still available last time I checked - YMMV) with the advanytage of better (in my opinion) button placement although it's slightly larger.

I own the Phillips 8-in-1. THe only time I need to press the device buttons is when I am powering up or powering down. When powering up, I turn the TV on first, then the RTV. Since I will be watching the RTV, I don't need the TV functions. The Remote will ALWAYS work the TV Volume and Mute. I use the Replay to choose the show I am going to watch.

Arkitech,

I am a new 55xx user. The remote is awful. I like my Showstopper remote and it works great for the 55xx (although it isn't backlit either). I think MikeyBoy has these for sale.

The SS remote controls the TV volume.

Anyone know where to buy an original 3000 remote? Its the one before the long showstopper remote (too many buttons). I have never seen one anywhere, not even on ebay. I have my two original ones and they still work with my 5040's but they are getting old.
