View Full Version : Is cat-5 proprietary, can I use cat-6 instead?

I wired my house with cat-6 and got a switch for my Replays. Problem, the switch says to use cat-5. I would think I can use cat-6. Anyone have advice on this?
Have you tried hooking it up? Its just twisted pair... My guess is that it will work fine.

Cat-6 is a higher quality wire. You should have no problems.

Cat5e is better than, and is backward compatible with Cat5
Cat6, if installed correctly, should work with any 10Base-T/100Base-T/1000Base-T connection.
