View Full Version : My DVD player "jams"
I have a Denon DVD 1200, which is the newer model progressive scan with faroudja and DVD-A. When I watch DVD's, they often seem to jam or pause on a frame for quite awhile before continuing. Is this a problem with the DVD or is it the player? Help!

Does this happen only on commercial DVDs, recordable ones or both? I've had issues with my Marantz DV-9500 experiencing freezeups and stuttering, but only on recordable DVDs. It turns out the problem is more related to the media I'm using for recording.
Make sure your DVDs are clean before you play them. Scratches and smudges on the dis surface can cause playback problems. Some players just seem to be more susceptible than others to these types of problems.
It happens on DVD's that are brand new and right out of the box. I am inclined to believe it is the player because often I will watch the chapter over again and it will pause in different places or a chapter that had many pauses in the first pass will only have a few in the next pass, etc. My consternation comes from the fact that every DVD player I have ever owned has done this. I'm wondering if I need to spend more on a DVD player to avoid this problem, am I buying defective DVD's, or if I have just had a run of bad luck in my DVD players. Mainly, I would like to watch all DVD's without having this problem cropping up --- it is annoying.
