View Full Version : problems using long rca cables????
I am snaking cables for my plasma. I need to use rca/bnc. I thought I'd only need 13'. But in fact the cables have to go down to my basement and up... which means 25'. I was also planning to include a hdmi/dvi cable for future use. Is there any problem using such long cables?

not sure about the hdmi/dvi cables...but i would expect the rca's to pickup some interference along their path unless they are super nice and shielded...even still 25' is a long way to transmit a signal and expect a perfect picture
Any suggestions? I know they sell them and sell them longer too.
Anybody who has a front projector will tell that 25' with component cables is NOTHING. Don't worry at all about. I would personally make them from RG-6 cable, then you know you are getting good quality wire and can make them exactly the length you need.

Can you tell me about RG-6 cable? Can I get the cable with the ends on it already? If so where?
Thanks

I've got component using RG6 that I had installed as part of a structured wiring package. They run through the crawl space for about 40 feet (that's a conservative number). Because its RG6, I've not had a problem and didn't notice any improvement using a 6' DVI cable for the DVD player. The caveat is that I don't have videophile-level eyes so any subtle differences would be lost to me, I bet.

msboc ,
The Component Cables you got from Bluejeanscable.com use Belden 7710A coax (RG6) cables
with Canare Connectors. Great Quality. :)

I am running my cables 25 feet and I decided to try a set of the Ram cables that are NOT Belden. I ordered the "All in One Cable" to try it out. Ram Electronics claims they are triple sheilded.
Does anyone have any experience with these cables at 20 ft or longer?
Thanks
As a point of reference, the cable that satellite installers use is usually RG6 and they run it one hundred feet many times. Most electronic stores have it.
i personally like tributaries cable. It will be fairly expensive, but i find them everything and then some. RG-6 will also do just fine long distances. I use it on my installs often.

I also have cables from Bluejeanscable. 35 feet in length. Belden with canare connectors. Great quality.

I use RG6 quad shielded cable (5 runs - 3 component 2 audio) 75' or so feet without issue (crawlspace to basement up 2 1/2 stories to attic back down wall). I do not think you will have an issue unless you are going more than 150'.
Thanks everyone for your input... all of it reassuring. I know I'll be back soon than I'd like with another problem. :D
