Hard drive swap?

Is the hard drive of the UTV married to the motherboard (like an XBox), or can they be freely swapped? I'm not talking about upgrading, just exchanging like for like.

Yep, they are married. If you plug a different drive in it will low level format it and dial out for the OS.

To elaborate, there is an unlock code that resides on the motherboard. Only one drive can belong to the UTV, so each change of drive requires a reformat an OS download. So, if you're thinking of being able to swap between drives to gain extra space, it won't work (though someone here did rig up a sort of override via a toggle switch that seemed to work, but required some modification of the unit - a lot of trouble just to swap a drive).

Someone had a UTV on eBay minus HD for $30 Buy it Now, but by the time I got home, someone else had gotten it. No matter, I found an excellent one with two good tuners for about $70 with shipping, so I'm using that. Thanks for the info though!
