I am in the middle of getting all the little bugs worked out of a KnoppMyth based PVR I am building. I have almost everything working just the way I'd like except for a couple of things. The one thing that I 'm hoping someone in this forum can help with is that I can't get any audio output from the analogue jacks on the Chaintech AV-710 soundcard.

My current setup is:
Athlon 1800+ with Coolermaster Vortec Dream 7 HSF
MSI K7N2GM2-LSR
Samsung 512mb PC3200
WD 200gig HD
AV-710 soundcard
Hauppauge PVR-250 capture card
Coolermaster Cavalier 2 case (the one with the sound meter built into the front)

I using the supplied s-video bracket for the tv out from the mobo with the integrated graphics onboard (nVidia)... onboard sound is disabled, of course.
Everything works well and I have sound working via the sp/dif output from the chaintech card but I can't get any sound from the analogue outs.
I've installed the latest ALSA drivers... 1.0.9rc2
I've followed everything I can find online with regard to setting up ALSA but still no luck. Also, last night I tried playing TuxRacer after exiting the MythTV frontend and there is no sound just in Linux either. I've checked that Master, PCM, and Headphones are not muted in Alsamixer... I'm out of ideas.
Did I mention I'm a total Linux noob that hadn't looked at linux before a month ago? I know that doesn't help but that's why I think I may have missed something basic... a lot of people seem to have more trouble getting sp/dif to work than analogue and I've got the opposite problem... doesn't make sense and that's what leads me to think I'm missing something that a Linux expert wouldn't even think to mention.
Oh yeah, one last thing... if you're not familiar with KnoppMyth (version R5A12)... it's based on Debian 2.6.9 kernel.
Thanks in advance for any and all help.

No takers for a possible solution to this particular problem.... so I'll ask something else. Does anyone have any suggestions where I might be able to find to particular solution to this problem for a person fairly new to Linux. I have no trouble reading a bunch and I've already learned quite a bit about Linux since I took this project on.... if someone can recommend sites (I've been to quite a few Linux noob sites already but they don't seem to delve into trouble shooting drivers and such) or even a book or two worth purchasing for someone of my skill level would be greatly appreciated.
TIA...

did you create a .asoundrc file?

Sorry... been away for awhile. I followed some very specific instructions for compiling and installing the Alsa drivers from the Alsa web site... I'm not adept enough at linux to tell you exactly what I did because I was using a "cookbook" mentality when I installed the driver... in other words.... step 1, did that, step 2 did that, and so on. I'll look back through the instructions I followed but if that was part of it then I'm sure I did. I'll post when I have time to check.
Thanks....

You can double check the jumpers on the card, these are to set which outputs are used? I read a good post...

...on HTPCnews forum about the card, good luck.

I've checked the jumpers and even tried a jumper tweak I found at the Head-Fi forums in a review of the card... I'd link it but I don't have enough posts yet. Either way I still have silence when trying the line out, center/bass jacks and white noise when I try the surr jack.
