Does anyone know if DNNA will ever enhance the Replay software again, or will it be stuck at the current subset of features? I was wondering if they would ever maybe add MP3 playback or anything?

I've been beta testing the 420 build of the software and it does include MP3 playback, HD compression that works with the existing component out, a blue light dimmer, negative padding, e-mail, IM, internet browsing, USB support, 4xxx/5xxx streaming, and an option to use the unit as a smart vcr without paying for the service (even works with WIRNS). It still has a few bugs but once those are worked out, I image that it will be rolled out to the general public.

Get the 421 build, they fixed the double select bug.

Gee, how long has this been in beta? since Q1 '03?

Hey guys, you're both two weeks late with the news.

It always amazes me to see how helpful people are on this forum.

I would have posted about it sooner but the two-year limit on the NDA just expired today.

I dunno, seems like they answered your questions :D Okay okay, maybe by dousing you with gas and lighting you on fire, but they answered it nonetheless.

There are several inexpensive solutions to playing back MP3's (and other media formats and pictures, etc.) such as the Hauppauge MediaMVP. That particular device has other cool features as well, but discovering those shall be an exercise left to the reader.

I'm not neccesarily looking for MP3 playback (I use my Aiport Express for that). I was just curious if there was still development being done, or has the whole Replay line been scrapped by DNNA (once the inventory runs out). I read all the posts about DNNA's new high end focus, but havent seen any products. Meanwhile Tivo still adds enhancements (and flaws) to their units trying to continue breathing life into it.

For serious answer, no upcoming enhancements have been announced. The only people that would know anything would be those that are in a beta group, but they will be covered by an NDA and aren't supposed to reveal anything (including their participation in the beta group).

All signs point to no new development on the Replay 5k series.

Agreed, I believe we are a dying breed.

Go get an Xbox and modchip, then you can stream your RTV content, do mp3's, divx, every possible type of media file with Xbox Media Center.

Worth the time and investment.

Our RTV's are quite stuck in their current place for the foreseeable future.

Well...as long as my RTV's continue to work I'll be happy. Technology changes so quickly, who knows what we'll be using in the future. Thanks for the replies.

Tivo has been doing alot lately...for instance..

Tivo added commercials that show up on your screen when you are trying to fast forward threw other commercials

(I know...us Replay Users w/CA forgot what commercials are..maybe Replay can bring them back for us)

but I agree..it looks like new Replay development work is long gone

Maybe it is a good thing that there is no more Replay software developement. Just think of the other "features" that we are being spared from.

True...thats a very good point. The advertising "feature" sucks.

Try explaining that over at the Tivo forum. You will get hundreds of reasons why this is good for Tivo and its customers, also how it dose not bother anyone.

True, true it doesn't bother me at all either. Pehaps it is beacuse I don't own a TiVo.

Therefore, does this mean you are now at liberty to share that beta ;)
My email is available via pm

In addition, does anyone else have other links/information about this updated software? I have been thinking about letting go a few of my replays.
Now, I need to reevaluate this move.

In case you are serious, NearlyGod wasn't. There is no such software.

Believe it or not, Yes I was serious.
I now claim temporary insanity do to the fact I was last minute tax time number crunching and needed to take a break. So I breezed though the forum real quick and did not pick up on the obvious clues. Duh..

Yes but most of those features just bring TiVo up to the same point as the ReplayTV. What was the old saying? Windows 95 equals MacIntosh 88? Well, Tivo 2005 equals ReplayTV 2002.

If I were buying a PVR today I would still buy a ReplayTV over a TiVo. Each unit has its advanatages and disadvantages but the features that ReplayTV supports are the ones that matter. The advantages of TiVo are just fluff.
