if a newer plasma display such as the new panasonics are worked in for one thousan hours. would it be bad for the plasma display if you wahted 50% in 4 by 3 with the black bars on the side. mitght buy one but have to consider burn in.

Get some sort of HD source (STB, cable, Di*h etc) so that you have less SD 4:3 programming . Try out the different stretch modes on 4:3 to fill the screen. Adjust the brighness down - as the out of the box settings are bright and vivid "torch" mode.

i am aware of strechting and zooming in. However, i would only do this for the first 1000 hours. Most plasma manufacturers say after one thousand hours your viewing habits no longer matter as the plamsa gas is worked in. Just wondering if anyone has experience with this.

I wouldn't be concerned with this after 100 hours, even if that long.
