I currently have a HDTV Direct TV Tivo, inputted into a 16:9 projector. I have the Direct TV unit set up to display 16:9. I am looking to add a TV to my set up, and I prefer the 32" 4:3 Sony over the 30" 16:9 Sony. My question is, what will the picture on the TV look like....will it be skewed, will it have black bars? I don't want to go in the receiver each time to switch back and forth between 16:9 and 4:3....I would like to leave it set up on 16:9.
My proj is connected via component..the TV will be connected via HDMI.

GO,
I have HDTivo and a Sony 4:3. The HDTivo overrides the Sony. If you leave at 1080i on the HDTivo, any SD programming will appear inside the 16:9 rectangle. You have to reset output on HDTivo using peanut to 480p to see SD on full screen. You can see color options for bars/columns on your HDTivo setup menu.
You could leave output set at 480p and no flipping needed but what is the point?

Jeff,
What about 720p, same thing? I currently have my HD Tivo set to that because it is more proj friendly (no peek a boos).

yeah it will be the same but the TV will have to convert 720p to 1080i scan rate

GO,
Yep. If you set HDTivo output to be 720p, it shows HD programming on 16:9. SD programming shows within.
There is no getting around this with the HDTivo. Check tivocommunity.com.
